Canon PowerShot SX280 With DIGIC 6 Processor Unveiled

Canon PowerShot SX280 With DIGIC 6 Processor UnveiledLaunching alongside the Canon Rebel SL1 (EOS 100D), Canon has also revealed the PowerShot SX280, a compact camera for those who prefer something a little, well, more compact. While you might sniff your nose at compact cameras, especially given that our smartphones these days are able to snap decent photos, some of the features Canon is advertising for the SX280 would be its use of Canon’s new DIGIC 6 processor and its ability to capture photos in low-light conditions, a feature which we’re sure is welcome by photographers who hate the harshness that flash introduces to photos when not done properly. Canon Rebel SL1 (EOS 100D) Announced

Canon Rebel SL1 (EOS 100D) AnnouncedRemember the rumors we’ve been hearing about Canon possibly launching a new DSLR camera that would be a happy middle between the Rebel series of entry-level DSLR cameras and the EOS M? Well it turns out those rumors were spot on because Canon has officially announced the Rebel SL1 (also know as the EOS 100D in other regions), a camera that looks small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, although we doubt it will be fitting into pockets anytime soon. So what sort of specs are we looking at here? For starters in terms of its dimensions and weight, the Rebel SL1 will measure a rather diminutive 116.8 x 90.7 x 69.4mm, with its weight just under half a kilogram at 407g. Other specs include an 18MP APS-C Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor combined with Canon’s DIGIC 5 processor. The Rebel SL1 will also be capable of capturing HD video at 1080p Full HD variety, and at a frame rate of 30fps, 25fps or 24fps.

The SL1 will also sport a 3″ touchscreen LCD display at the back and will also play host to several creative filters which photographers can apply to their photos after taking the shot. Best of all the Rebel SL1 will also be compatible with Canon’s EOS series of lenses, meaning that if you already own several Canon lenses, you will be able to use them with the SL1, although we can only imagine some lenses might look ridiculously big when attached to this compact device. So if you’re planning on picking up the Canon Rebel SL1 for yourself, Canon USA has announced that the camera will be available come April and will be priced at $649.99 for the body only, and $799.99 with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens. New Windows Phone Challenge Pits The Nokia Lumia 920 Against The Samsung Galaxy S3

Just the other day a video released by Nokia compared the Lumia 920’s low-light camera abilities to that of the Samsung Galaxy S3. Now it looks like Microsoft has decided to hop on board the bandwagon as well and has recently released a new Windows Phone Challenge video in which the Samsung Galaxy S3’s camera is pitted against none other than the Nokia Lumia 920. As expected, given that this is a Microsoft ad, the Nokia outperformed the Galaxy S3 in low-light photo shooting, thus causing the nice lady in the video to give up her Galaxy S3 in favor of the Lumia 920.

It is unsurprising that both Nokia and Microsoft have gone after Samsung in light of the South Korean company launching what could be thought of as the most anticipated Android smartphone of 2013. The Galaxy S2 and S3 were known to sport some pretty good cameras and we expect nothing less from the S4, but one of the highlights of the Lumia 920 is its low-light abilities and we guess Nokia and Microsoft is hoping that customers will keep that in mind when it comes down to choosing between Samsung and Nokia.

Sony NEX-7n’s Rumored April Announced Postponed

Sony NEX 7ns Rumored April Announced PostponedA couple of weeks ago, we reported that Sony’s upcoming NEX-7n was rumored for an April launch. Unfortunately that no longer appears to be the case because according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they claim that the launch has been delayed although no new dates have been given. However they claim that according to their source, the delay isn’t too big and it is not that far off, so we guess we it’s not that bad after all. Considering that Sony has yet to confirm that a NEX-7n even exists, we guess it’s hard to be disappointed that a rumored product has been delayed, but for those looking forward to new Sony cameras, you guys will probably have to sit tight and wait for the official announcement at a later date.

For those who haven’t been keeping up with the rumors, it has been rumored for a while now that Sony could be introducing a successor to the NEX-7, called the NEX-7n. This new mirrorless camera is said to sport a 24MP APS-C sensor with a ½ stop improvement and increased dynamic range, a 3.8 million dot EVF, and even WiFi capabilities! The design is also said to be somewhat similar to the NEX-7, albeit with some slight changes.

GoPro Cameras Deliver Bullet-Time Scenes From Everyday Activities

We’ve seen the GoPro used to create some amazing visuals such as the camera being used to record the process of traveling to space, as well as giving sports fans a first-hand view of their favorite sports with the RefCam But this latest recording method allows the average person to create cool-looking bullet-time effects in their videos.

Permagrin Films’ Marc Donahue created a mount that groups together a bunch of GoPro cameras to simultaneously take a shot to create bullet-time moments out of any visual, making it instantly cool. Because of the combination of the half-circle mount and the cameras capturing a moment simultaneously, the transition between one image to another looks seamless to us, although Donahue admits it requires a bit more tuning in order for the GoPro cameras to fire in closer succession. Canon Rumored To Announce Two New DSLR Cameras On The 21/22 March

Canon Rumored To Announce Two New DSLR Cameras On The 21/22 MarchEarlier today we reported that thanks to a Best Buy listing, an unknown Canon EOS-b DSLR camera was revealed. It has been speculated that this could be the new DSLR lineup that Canon has been rumored to announce in the near future, and thanks to the folks at Canon Rumors, it is possible that an announcement could be taking place on the 21st or 22nd of March. One of those cameras is said to be the EOS 100D, while the other camera remains unknown. However with only a few days to go until the 21st or 22nd of March, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if the rumors pan out. Mysterious Canon EOS-b Camera Revealed In Best Buy Leak

Mysterious Canon EOS b Camera Revealed In Best Buy LeakRemember when there were rumors last week that Canon could be introducing a new line of DSLR cameras? While we’re still waiting for an official announcement of sorts, the folks at Best Buy have put up a listing for a Canon camera. Unfortunately it was not stated as to what the camera’s model was, nor were there any photos. However the listing did reveal a certain EOS-b 18MP camera with an EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens. Apart from that there was not much to go on. Could this be the rumored new DSLR that we have been hearing about?

For those who haven’t been following the camera news, there were rumors that Canon was planning a smaller DSLR lineup that would be in between the EOS M range of mirrorless cameras, and the Rebel series of entry-level DSLRs. These cameras are expected to pack the power of a DSLR camera into a smaller body, one that is smaller than the Rebel but larger than the EOS M. It is possible that this Best Buy listing could be it, and if it is, hopefully it is a sign that an announcement could be on the horizon.

Rumored Upcoming Canon Rebel DSLR Specs Leaked

Rumored Upcoming Canon Rebel DSLR Specs LeakedRemember the other day we reported on rumors that Canon could be introducing a new line of DSLR cameras? These alleged cameras are supposed to be the in-between for the Rebel series of entry-level DSLRs, and the EOS M, Canon’s take on the mirrorless system. Thanks to the folks at Canon Watch, it looks like they might have gotten their hands on some rumored specs for this new series of DSLRs, although based on what we see, we’re not sure if an entirely new line of cameras needs to be introduced.

In any case according to the rumored specs, one of the cameras in this new lineup is said to sport an 18MP sensor which is supposedly the same sensor found on the EOS M and the EOS 650D. It will be powered by the DIGIC 5 processor, feature a touchscreen similar to the EOS M, 9 focus points, a hybrid CMOS auto-focus system, 98% viewfinder, 6fps shooting, ISO up to 25,600 with support for EF and EF-S lens and the ability to shoot HD video. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now and if the rumors are right, an announcement should not be too far off.

Researchers at Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPII) have developed a video inpainting software that can effectively remove people or objects from high definition footage. Inpainting is the process of reconstructing lost or deteriorated parts of images and videos. When people or objects are digitally removed from an image, it will leave an empty space in the background. Inpainting fills up the empty space with parts of image or video frame with the same background. (more…)
