Sigma dp Quattro Cameras Announced

Sigma dp Quattro Cameras AnnouncedCameras come in all shapes and sizes, although in the case of Sigma’s dp Quattro, we have to admit that this is a shape that not many would have expected, and more importantly we have to say that we are curious as to how it might handle, although Sigma does claim that this does offer a more balanced shape. That being said, the dp Quattro is Sigma’s latest series of cameras, a trio in fact, that the company has recently announced, although pricing and availability have yet to be determined, but perhaps that is something that the company might share during CP+ 2014 which will be taking place later this week.

While each dp Quattro camera will sport different specs, each will come with the company’s latest Foveon X3 sensor, which according to Sigma, “offers an even higher level of image quality. In addition to 30% higher resolution, the volume of image data has become lighter, and it enables much faster image processing and lower current consumption.” This basically means better photos at lower battery consumption. All three dp Quattro cameras will also be powered by Sigma’s TRUE III processor which the company boasts to offer “high-definition, 3D-like photographs with outstandingly rich color detail.”

    Nikon D4 Listed As Discontinued

Nikon D4 Listed As DiscontinuedThe Nikon D4 was announced back in 2012, suggesting that perhaps it might be about time that Nikon announce an upgrade. That update is rumored to be the Nikon D4S which we have been hearing about recently, and if a recent Nikon invite is to be believed, come 11th of February that is when we can expect Nikon to make an announcement related to the Nikon D4S. In any case for those who remain slightly skeptical about this news, here’s further proof that the Nikon D4S cold be in the works and prime for an announcement, as major US retailers have since listed the Nikon D4 as having been discontinued.

These major retailers include websites such as B&H, Adorama, and Amazon, all of whom are pretty big names when it comes to purchasing cameras online, so presumably they know something we don’t otherwise they would not have simply listed the camera as being discontinued. Now the good news is that the rumors are also claiming that the Nikon D4S, despite being a newer and better camera, will be priced the same as the Nikon D4, meaning that we can expect it to be priced at around the $5,999.99 mark for the body-only. In any case hopefully more details will be revealed on the 11th of February, so check back with us then for the details.

Canon Boasts 70 Million EOS Cameras Produced To Date

Canon Boasts 70 Million EOS Cameras Produced To DateWhen it comes to cameras, Canon is a name that is probably known around the world. In fact safe to say that when it comes to cameras, Canon and Nikon are probably some of the more well-known commercial brands out there, which is why it is not surprising to learn that Canon has announced that they have recently managed to hit the 70 million milestone in terms of the production of EOS interchangeable lens cameras. Yup you heard that right, from 1987 until 2014, Canon has produced 70 million EOS cameras to date. In fact it was in October 2012 that Canon managed to hit the 60 million mark, so for them to hit the 70 million mark in a little over a year is pretty impressive.

In fact Canon is pretty pleased with themselves as they have also announced that that 75% of the professional photographers covering the Super Bowl utilized the company’s DSLR and EF lenses, at least based on a survey conducted by the company. “Canon is honored that more than 75 percent* of professional photographers covering the game utilized Canon DSLR cameras and EF lenses to capture and share the memorable moments of the gridiron matchup. Canon broadcast lenses were also used extensively to deliver the game to more than 111 million television viewers.” Those are indeed pretty impressive numbers, good job Canon!

Ricoh WG-4, WG-4 GPS Rugged Cameras Announced

Ricoh WG 4, WG 4 GPS Rugged Cameras AnnouncedEarlier we had reported on the Ricoh WG-20, a rugged camera that will come at an affordable price of $199.95. Granted there were some features that we thought could be a little bit better, but then again if saving money is what you’re after, then we reckon the WG-20 should be able to get the job done and then some. However if you’re looking for a rugged camera with slightly more “premium” specs and don’t mind paying a little extra to have those specs, then perhaps the Ricoh WG-4 and WG-4 GPS could be of interest to you.

First of, both cameras will feature identical specs with the main difference between the WG-4 and WG-4 GPS is that the latter will come with GPS capabilities, allowing your photos to be location-tagged. It will also sport a front-facing display. Apart from that, both cameras will feature an aperture of f/2.0 and a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor, a 25-100mm lens, and sensor-shift image stabilization. Ricoh WG-20 Affordable Rugged Camera Unveiled

Ricoh WG 20 Affordable Rugged Camera UnveiledRugged cameras are great if you think that you will find yourself in situations where its ruggedness might come in handy. For example if you’re the sort that likes to take action photography, or cover events where they could be a lot of moving involved, or if you’re going to places like the beach or pool where there is a chance your camera could get wet, rugged cameras do come in handy then. However if you’re looking to avoid paying an arm and a leg for a higher-end rugged camera, the folks at Ricoh have recently announced the WG-20, a rugged camera that will only cost you $199.95.

In terms of specs, the WG-20 will feature a 14MP CCD sensor. It will also come equipped with a 140mm 5x optical zoom lens and will be capable of capturing video in 720p HD quality, although we would have preferred 1080p but we guess that’s one way of cutting costs. In terms of ruggedness, photographers can expect the WG-20 to withstand depths of water up to 10m, freezeproof of temperatures up to -10C, and will also be able to withstand a drop from as high as 1.5m. Available in either red or white, the Ricoh WG-20 will be available later this March.
