Nikon Sends Invites For 11th February Event

Nikon Sends Invites For 11th February EventIf you’re looking forward to new camera announcements from Nikon, you might not have to wait too long. It seems that the Japanese camera manufacturer has recently started to send out invites to an event that they will be holding on the 11th of February 2014, which is next Tuesday. Given that CP+ will be kicking off on the 13th of February, we’re guessing that this announcement will be a pre-CP+ announcement which Nikon is probably hoping will not be drowned out by the excitement of the show in which we expect many manufacturers to unveil new camera-related products as well.

It is unclear as to what exactly Nikon might have in store for us come 11th of February, but if the rumors are to be believed, chances are the company could be looking to announce the Nikon D4S. The camera’s specs have yet to be confirmed, but it was early on in January that Nikon confirmed the existence of the device, and given that the Nikon D4 was designed to be a tool used by professionals, we reckon it will be the same for the Nikon D4S as well. Based on the model number, we expect it to be an upgraded variant of the Nikon D4 but check back with us during the 11th of February anyway for all the details.

New Sony E-mount Cameras Rumored For Announcement Next Week

New Sony E mount Cameras Rumored For Announcement Next WeekConsidering that the Sony NEX-7 was launched back in 2011, safe to say that it is about time that Sony come forward with a new camera that would be the successor of the NEX-7. Now we have heard the rumors that a successor could be in the works which might actually be shipped later this year in April, and now according to a new rumor from Sony Alpha Rumors, perhaps the April shipping date might not be too far-fetched after all. According to their “multiple trusted sources”, they claim that Sony will be holding a press event next week on the 12th of February, Wednesday.

It is unclear as to what the event will entail, but Sony Alpha Rumors believes that the event will be focused on the launch of new mirrorless products, and presumably the NEX-7’s successor will be one of them. For those looking forward to A-mount related cameras, such as the A77, apparently that event will take place in Spring in a separate announcement. In any case do take it with a grain of salt for now as Sony has yet to send out the invites to such an event, but either way for those interested in devices like the NEX-7, be sure to check back with us next Wednesday to see if the rumors pan out!

Ztylus ZGS-4 Camera Kit Comes To The Galaxy S4

When it comes to camera accessories for smartphones, most of the time we’re talking about simple lens attachments. However with devices like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, smartphone photography has definitely been taken to the next level. However if neither of those devices interest you, how about a revolver camera kit for the Samsung Galaxy S4 then? Ztylus has announced the ZGS-4 camera kit for the Samsung Galaxy S4 which is basically an elaborate case for the smartphone that will transform it into a more “proper” camera. (more…)

Nokia’s Gyroscopic Stabilization Technology Made Available In The Open Market

nokia-lumia-925-preview-01If there’s one thing about Nokia’s smartphones that we do enjoy, it would be its camera features. A good camera is a combination of both good hardware and good software, something Nokia has done really well, and while software can be easily copied, hardware might prove to be a different story, but now according to reports, the technology behind Nokia’s smartphone cameras has become available on the open market. The secret to Nokia’s smartphone camera is apparently due to gyroscopic stabilization, at least in part. Basically what this does is that it allows the camera’s shutter to stay open for longer without blurring the final image (the longer the shutter stays open, the more light gets let in).

In fact that is one of the features that allows Nokia to create devices like the Lumia 929 whose specs weren’t exactly outstanding compared to iOS and Android handsets, but had a camera whose low-light photography managed to beat out the competition. Now this kind of technology has been around for a while and can be found in regular digital cameras, but its application to smartphones is rather unique and Nokia is one of the few companies around who managed to incorporate the technology in its phones. With ST Microelectronics announcing the tech’s availability, we expect that smartphone OEMs will be interested in checking it out. Whether or not they incorporate it into their products remains to be seen, but it looks like Nokia might have just lost themselves one advantage.

Olympus Stylus SP-100 Superzoom Camera With Dot-Sight Tracking Announced

sp-100-2Hot on the heels of the announcement of the Olympus OMD E-M10 and the Stylus Tough TG-850, Olympus has announced yet another camera for those who are fans of super zoom cameras. Dubbed the Stylus SP-100, this is the latest super zoom camera from the Japanese company, and apart from being able to zoom in pretty far (a 24-1200mm lens), it comes with built-in dot-sight that allows the photographer to easily track moving subjects even when zoomed in. For those who ever tried to follow the action when using zoom, you guys know how difficult it can get, so to have dot-sight tracking, it just made things a whole lot better.

Other features of the SP-100 include a focus limiter that allows the photographer to determine what distance the camera can focus at, a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, a TruePic VII processor, and built-in lens shift image stabilization, a mechanism that will reduce camera shake even at the highest zoom. Once again if you have ever tried to move around while in zoom mode, you know that the slightest movement will result in a lot of shake, so the lens shift image stabilization should be able to correct that. Apart from the zoom features, the SP-100 will also come with a 3” LCD display and video recording capabilities that can capture Full HD videos at 60fps. It will be priced at $399.99 and will be available in March 2014.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-850 Camera Announced

tg-850-6If you’re a fan of diving or going to the pool or the beach, chances are you might need a waterproof camera to snap photos. While our phones are more than capable of snapping great photos, dropping it into the pool is not the best idea. Well the good news is that Olympus has announced a new underwater camera in the form of the Stylus Tough TG-850 iHS. The camera has been designed for taking photos underwater (up to 10m) and will feature a 21-105mm 5x optical zoom lens, which Olympus calls the widest lens of any rugged camera available in the market today.

Other rugged features of the camera include shockproof (from a drop of 2.1m), dustproof, crushproof (able to withstand up to 100kg), and freezeproof (down to -10C), all of which are to a certain extent, naturally. Apart from the rugged features, the Olympus TG-850 will also come with a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor and will be feature Olympus’ TruePic VII processor. It will also come with a 3” 180-degree flip LCD monitor, fast AF, 7.1fps shooting, and will be able to record videos in Full HD at 60fps. Olympus OMD E-M10 Has Been Officially Launched

olympus_omd_em10_01After a period of leaked images and rumors, Olympus has officially announced their latest camera in the form of the OMD E-M10. Many had speculated that CP+ could be when Olympus would make their announcement, but we guess they decided to announce it a little earlier instead which would make sense since CP+ could see their announcements overshadowed by other companies. In any case the camera’s specs appear to be pretty much in line with what we have been hearing in the rumors, which means that we can look forward to a 16MP Live MOS sensor, the same one found in the OMD E-M5, and a TruePic VII image processor which was borrowed from the OMD E-M1.

Other features of the camera includes a high speed electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch LCD display that can be tiled, 3-axis image stabilization, fast AF, a built-in popup flash and will sport a metal body, which does offer a more premium and sturdy feel compared to plastic. For those interested in getting their hands on the camera, Olympus has announced that it will be made available come early February 2014 and there will be a body-only and a lens kit version to choose from. For those not interested in any lenses, the body-only version will cost £529.99, while the version with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens will cost £699.99.

Sony’s QX10/QX100 Could Be Making Its Way Onto Tablets

xperia_tablet_qxBack in 2013, Sony announced the QX10 and the QX100 which were essentially camera lenses that you could attach to your smartphone. The great thing about the lenses was that it did not favor any particular device or platform, meaning that it worked on iPhones as well as non-Sony Android devices as well. Perhaps looking to further put an end to device discrimination, it seems that Sony could be considering releasing a mount for the QX10/QX100 that would make it compatible with tablets as well! Thanks to an image snagged by the folks at Xperia Blog, it shows how the QX10/QX100 could be strapped to the back of a tablet.

Sony has yet to make an official announcement but apparently this new mount is expected to arrive only in April and will be available in Japan first before making its way to the rest of the world. While our tablets are starting to come with better cameras these days, it has become something of a tech faux pas to use your tablet to snap photos or record videos, so we’re not sure if strapping a camera to the back of a 10-inch tablet will help make it better. Then again the larger display of a tablet makes it easy to perform edits so it is understandable why some people choose to use their tablets for such purposes. In any case what do you guys think? Would you be caught strapping the QX10/QX100 to the back of your tablet?

Sony A77 Successor Rumored To Cost €1,200

sony-a77If you were thinking about getting your hands on the Sony A77 or want to upgrade from the A77, you might have heard that there could be a Sony A77 successor in the works. This has been rumored about for a while now and last we heard, it is possible that the A77’s successor could even see a release in June following a rumored announcement in April. That’s well and good but how much could the camera cost? What sort of price tag could we be looking at here? According to the sources of Sony Alpha Rumors, it has been revealed that the price of the A77 will cost €1,200 for the body-only, but unfortunately did not mention how much the kit version will cost, although if we guess had to guess it’d probably be a few hundred Euros extra.

Sony Alpha Rumors believes that the A77’s successor, whose name is currently unknown, will be the only Sony APS-C A-mount camera coming in 2014. We still do not know what sort of specs the A77’s successor will have under the hood but the rumors claim that we can expect some new and exciting hardware, rather than incremental upgrades over its predecessor. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will learn more further down the line. In the meantime what do you guys make of the rumored price? Is that something you’d be willing to pay?

    Fujifilm X-T1 Is Official

Fujifilm has been teasing their upcoming camera, the Fujifilm X-T1 for a while now and sure enough today, on the 28th of January, the camera manufacturer has officially taken the wraps off their latest product offering. Based on the official press release by Fujifilm, the X-T1 appears to be more or less the same as what the rumors have suggested, and the official photos also corroborate earlier leaks as well, a design which Fujifilm likes to call “traditional” with dials and buttons placed where professional photographers might have come to expect, versus more modern cameras where the dials and buttons could be laid out differently.
