New LG Pocket Photo Printer Launched

New LG Pocket Photo Printer Launched

LG today launched its new Pocket Photo 2.0 “smart mobile printer,” touted as an excellent travel companion, this nifty little printer can connect through NFC and Bluetooth with Android and iOS mobile devices and let users print custom 5.1 x 7.6cm photos. The new LG Pocket Photo is 4mm thinner than its predecessor but it doesn’t compromise on performance. In fact, the new model offers more prints per charge, 30 to be precise, with each printed picture being rendered at 313 dpi or dots-per-inch. To begin printing, all users have to do is download the free Pocket Photo editing app and connect their smartphone or tablet with it.

The app has been updated as well, it features an expanded range of customization options. There is a new set of filter effects and a clever frame augmentation feature. Users will also be able to embed QR codes into photos printed through the LG Pocket Photo. To print photos, the printer employs ZINK technology, which eliminates the need for ink cartridges, ribbons or toner. The technology uses heat to fire up the necessary color-forming chemistry, which is already imbedded in each sheet of paper. The new LG Pocket Photo Printer will be available in pink, jewel white and lime yellow, it is already available for purchase in China whereas global roll out is scheduled in 2014. The Korean company will be showcasing this gadget at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 next month.

    Convert Images into Vectors

This article was written on November 09, 2007 by CyberNet.

    Firefox Vector
Original image on the left, vectorized on the right

Have you ever had a photo that you wish you could blow up to a much larger size? Doing something like that would require a vector image, which is a graphic format that has no size limitation. You’re in luck because there is a new service in town, called VectorMagic, that will take your regular images and do its best to convert it into a vector graphic. The conversion process is normally rather quick, and it only asks you a few questions such as:

    • What type of image are you uploading? Is it a photograph, anti-aliased logo, or a non anti-aliased logo?
    • What is the quality of the image? Is it sharp or blurry?
    • Are there less than 12 colors in the original image, or are there more than that?

After it’s done you’ll be able to download the vector image in a variety of lossless formats including PNG, SVG, and EPS.

One thing that I’ve noticed is that starting with a higher quality images will result in pretty good conversions. I intentionally made the Firefox logo above low quality to start with so that I could see what the end result would be. The vectorized Firefox logo was a bit choppy, but it almost looks like artwork to me. When I bumped up the quality of the logo the result was much better, but it obviously has a hard time with shading:

Tip: The bigger and more detailed the images are the more time it will take to process. If you just want to play with this real quick try shrinking down some of your images otherwise you might be waiting for a few minutes to see the results.

All of these photos are breaking some ridiculous state law

You’ve heard of unbelievably dumb state laws before, right? Like how you can’t play dominoes on Sunday or that you can only wear slippers indoors or that you’re limited to two dildos per household. There’s tons more that don’t need to exist and they’re all ridiculous! Photographer Olivia Locher wanted to poke fun of those stupid state laws in her photo series I Fought The Law, which, well, shows photographs of ‘illegal’ things happening. It’s genius.

    Create Panoramic Photos with Hugin

This article was written on August 22, 2008 by CyberNet.

Panoramic photos seem to be becoming more common these days as people carry cameras with them wherever they go. In the past we’ve shown you tools like AutoStitch and Windows Live Photo Gallery that make assembling panoramic photos effortless, but the free Hugin program is much more customizable.

Hugin will attempt to find points on the images that match up with each other, or you can manually specify control points. It can take some time to get used to because of all the manual settings available to configure, but with these tutorials and a little spare time this weekend you should be all set.

There are over 8,000 images on Flickr that have used Hugin for assembling some amazing panoramic shots. Once you get the hang of using the program you’ll be able to create shots using Hugin like this that started out with this typical panoramic.
