The pilot in this twisting and turning plane must be ridiculously disciplined, have palms that never sweat, a personality that never stresses and big brass ones because that’s what it takes to land a plane in such shit weather.
Forget about Ellen Degeneres and forget about this astronaut. This is the most awesome selfie, not theirs: A Royal Danish Air Force pilot firing a live air-to-air AIM-9 Sidewinder missile form his F-16 fighter.
Clearly, you don’t have to be a military or airliner pilot
While commercial pilots might not use this kind of watch to replace the computers they work with in Jumbo Jets, frequent travelers and private pilots might enjoy the goodies features on this latest Garmin watch.
The Garmin D2 Pilot Watch has everything you’d expect from an aviator watch, with the added bonus of Garmin GPS tech. It has the ability to load a flight plan and view it in real time on the watch face. Its dedicated NRST button can also guide you to the nearest airport. There’s also a compass, horizontal situation indicator, ground speed indicator, and altimeter. The watch can also be used to set timers and vibrating alerts for in-flight tasks. It can even be used to wirelessly control Garmin’s VIRB action cameras.
All these features don’t come cheap, as the watch will cost you $449(USD), but if you’re into aviation, it’s an impressive amount of tech packed into a wrist watch.
In an unexpected turn, Delta has informed employees that it will be issuing a Surface 2 running Windows 8.1 RT to every pilot over the next two years. The airline ran an Electronic Flight Bag pilot program with iPads back in 2011, but for reasons unknown, that popular slate has since been scrapped. According to WindowsITPro, Delta had since planned to move forward with Nokia’s rumored tablet, but has opted for the Surface 2 instead. The decision follows a move to equip flight attendants with Lumia 820 handsets, which will be used for processing payments and tracking passenger information. Considering the importance of a reliable cockpit device, however, this Surface 2 news is arguably far more significant.

Last night, two F-16 fighter jets collided during a training mission off the coast of Chincoteague, Virginia. One pilot had to eject into the sea at about 10:30PM. Here’s the captivating raw footage the Coast Guard pulling him out of the water to safety.
Dish and nTelos start testing fixed LTE broadband in rural Virginia (video)
Posted in: Today's ChiliDish has so far had to be content with offering broadband over its existing satellite network, but the company has made no secret of wanting a terrestrial service. The carrier can now do more than talk about those plans: it just launched a pilot LTE service in rural Virginia with nTelos’ help. The test run supplies 2.5GHz wireless internet access to a handful of homes near Afton and Waynesboro, with speeds hovering at a respectable 20Mbps to 50Mbps. Neither provider is ready to talk about where the trial goes from here, although Dish is ambitious enough to see all of an underserved rural America as its potential customer base. We have a hunch that the company would like to pick up a little more spectrum before its dreams come true.

It’s cold in space. Whether you are flying a TIE Fighter or an X-Wing Fighter, you need to dress warmly. Good thing that this X-Wing pilot’s helmet was crocheted to keep you warm and toasty as you zip through the trenches of the Death Star.
This adorable helmet was created by Etsy seller HandcraftedByColleen and it is perfect for long space flights. “Red Leader, this is Echo 7. Are you warm enough? Yeah, me too. This thing won’t protect me in a crash, but I sure am glad that my grandmother gifted the whole squadron these toasty helmets.”
While they’re great in space, the Rebel pilots could have used these on Hoth, to keep warm in their Snowspeeders.
Bank of America testing QR Code scanning mobile payment system in North Carolina
Posted in: Today's ChiliMobile payment is still a bit of a wild west at the moment, and seemingly every technological and financial institution has a dog in this fight. Bank of America’s not going to just sit idly by and watch it all unfold. The US’s second largest bank has flirted with NFC in the past and is currently doing trials with QR scanning in Charlotte, North Carolina, where it’s based. At present, five sellers in the area are taking part in the pilot program, with bank employees given access to the technology. The three-month trial is the result of a partnership with mobile payment company Paydiant, is compatible with Android handsets and iPhones, no NFC needed, naturally.
