For a totally animated flick, it’s the sound masters behind the scenes who are really responsible for bringing a movie to life—every squeal, sigh, and clunk is key. Thanks to the people over at SoundWorks
Pixar fans who want to tie the knot really should have something like these awesome engagement ring boxes to help seal the deal. You want to make sure they say yes after all – and every little bit helps. You can’t ask a girl to marry based on just your dashing good looks and knowledge of every Star Trek episode, right?
These awesome custom engagement ring boxes were made by TheModelMaker to look like WALL-E, the house from UP (sans balloons), and a toy chest from Toy Story 3.
How could anyone say no to a ring delivered in one of these amazing creations?

Netflix scored a big coup with its semi-exclusive Disney deal late last year, but the newly expanded content didn’t reach everybody in one shot — just ask the British and Irish, who’ve been left high and dry so far. To viewers’ relief, the companies have mended that gap with immediate availability of Disney and Disney-Pixar movies in Ireland and the UK. The initial mix includes not-quite-recent movies like Wall-E as well as back-catalog classics like The Aristocats; the months ahead will see Netflix’ selection catch up slightly by introducing the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie, among other titles. Combined with the upcoming additions of some DreamWorks and Marvel movies, the Disney pact should hopefully keep the kids (and, we’ll admit, ourselves) entertained just as the summer is about to start.

Monsters Inc blew more than a few minds when it premiered in 2001. Sully’s coat comprised a million rendered hairs, and Boo’s oversized pink shirt moved with such a natural flow it appeared nearly life-like to audiences. And while advances in technology during the twelve years between the original film and the prequel—premiering in June—will provide another jaw-dropping visual experience, Monsters University was no less challenging to make. Steve Jobs has always been fascinating as a figure. Various stories about his presentation style and how he worked have been widely reported and read. For some, who have merely scratched the surface of his personality, Steve Jobs is only the visionary who made and then decades later turned Apple around. Jobs had a significant role in the formation of Pixar Animation Studios, it is no secret that he kept the studio afloat by pumping in millions of dollars of his own money till they were able to release Toy Story. This was Pixar’s first feature film and it become a major hit. Years later he sold Pixar to Disney for some $4 billion in shares.

Because Disney, who owns Pixar, now owns Lucasfilms and because they got J.J. Abrams to direct Star Wars even though he’s already directed Star Trek, it’s not out of this world to imagine a Star Trek animated series by Pixar (as incestuous and sacrilegious as that may be). Canadian artist Phil Postma wondered the same and animated the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series. Is it weird that I would want to watch this? More »
Emoticons have wholly integrated into modern language. Tweens communicate in nothing but nonsensical strings of emojis, and artists use them to create entire tales. But even with widespread use, emoticons’ emotions have remained relatively 1-dimensional since their inception. More »
Wreck-It Ralph has been released in a lot of places worldwide, my country of residence included, and I really found it entertaining and enjoyable. If you like video games at the very least and played a couple of games when they were still all pixelly and in 8-bit form, then chances are you’ll like the movie, too.
The film doesn’t come out in the UK until February 8, 2013, so Disney is going the extra mile – or is it the extra lane? – to promote the movie by setting up 8-bit Lane in London.
It’s basically a street art exhibit where, if you look closely, you’ll spot a few things that aren’t as they should be. For example, water flowing out of a pipe looks suspiciously pixelated. Two pigeons on a pipe also get treated to some 8-bit action.
All of the sculptures on 8-bit Lane were created by Aden Hynes, who is Disney’s film production sculptor. Check out more of the exhibit in the gallery below.

Earlier this month, we reported on an uncovered patent Disney filed for a new gaming device that would focus on 3D augmented reality by allowing the player to interact with their surrounds through the gaming device. Fortunately for our ever-shrinking gaming wallets, Disney isn’t getting into the video game console or handheld business, but instead announced its Disney Infinity platform.
Disney Infinity will focus on toys being the center piece of the experience as each character can be transported into the game world to play in a sandbox game. At its launch, there will be 20 characters available based on Monsters University, The Incredibles and Pirates of the Caribbean. The starter pack will come with Sulley from Monsters University, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles. More characters are expected to be made available after the game’s initial release from both the Disney and Pixar universe.
