EA announces Plants vs Zombies Boss Mode, lets you control your shambling hordes

On top of showing off the new graphics for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare blockbuster, EA has announced a Boss Mode at its Gamescon 2013 liveblog, exclusively for the Xbox One. A trailer for the new feature showed a Svengali-like being controlling his zombie hordes while discussing plans for world domination, all with stunning in-engine graphics (see the video after the break). EA said you’ll be able be able to use Boss Mode with SmartGlass and Kinect for the Xbox One when it arrives, mirroring an earlier Fighter Within announcement. Meanwhile, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will debut on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 first, and pre-orders are now live for $30 on Origin, at the source.

Peggle 2, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Headed To Xbox One First

Peggle 2, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Headed To Xbox One First

PopCap Games just released its Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time within the week, but the developer is hard at work on new titles as well, namely Peggle 2 and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Both titles were announced during E3 2013, and during Microsoft’s Xbox One presentation at Gamescom, it was revealed both titles will be making their way to the console first before branching out to additional platforms. Plants vs. Zombies 2 Now Available On iOS

Plants vs. Zombies 2 Now Available On iOS

It’s been a long time coming for fans of PopCap Games’ Plants vs. Zombies 2 as the company originally told us the game would be releasing on July 18, but it was later delayed in order to fine-tune the game a bit before its worldwide release. As you could probably guess by the title of this story, Plants vs. Zombies is now officially available exclusively on iOS.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time has been available in Australia for over a month to allow EA to ensure all of its back-end systems were able to handle a number of complex elements such as cross-device saves and the creation of player accounts. It looks like the time Plants vs. Zombies 2 had in Australia did EA some good as so far, the game has been available on iOS for under 12 hours without any issues rising from its launch.

Fans of the original Plants vs. Zombies grew concerned over the freemium price structure revealed to be included in Plants vs. Zombies 2, but in my experience playing the game for a few hours, I can tell you so far I haven’t experienced anything that could take away from enjoying the game so far. If you’re a true PvZ fan, then you should head over to the App Store and download PvZ 2 immediately.

Plants vs. Zombies Ported to Sega Genesis: Altered Plant

PopCap’s tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies is available on pretty much every modern gaming device, from PCs to smartphones. And it’s also on at least one classic console: the Sega Genesis aka the Mega Drive. The Penny-Arcade Report’s Ben Kuchera stumbled upon this 16-bit curio at PAX Australia.

Unsurprisingly, the port is an unofficial and illegal game. Dave Cudrev of Retrospekt bought a copy of the game on eBay for around $30 (USD) from a Russian coder. YouTuber Stepan V, whose video of the game appears below, was also able to snag one from an “underground retro video game market” in Russia. The game’s graphics have taken a considerable hit, plus it’s in Russian, but otherwise it seems to be the same as the original game.

It would be hilarious if it got DLC via the Mega-CD.

Still it’s a pretty great collection for anyone who loves the game. The complete set will set you back $190(USD), so that’s less than $9 per plant. Now all you need is a bunch of crocheted zombies to go with. Oh, they make those too
