Blizzard announces partnership with Sony, bringing Diablo III and more to PS4

Today there’s been all sorts of crazy news the last few hours regarding the new PlayStation 4. While the event is still wrapping up and we’re awaiting the good stuff, they just announced a partnership with Blizzard. The extremely popular PC game developer Blizzard took the stage and surprised everyone by announcing Diablo III and more will be coming to the PlayStation 4.

It looks like Blizzard is going back to their roots, yes consoles were originally their roots. Blizzard has entered into a partnership with Sony and will be bringing many games to the PlayStation 4. One of the most popular games that I’m sure many of you are excited about is Diablo III. It will be available on both the PS3 which we already knew, and now the new PS4.

Using the PlayStation cloud service you’ll be able to enjoy classic games like Diablo III right on your PS4. Alternatively it will probably also support Remote Play for streaming to your PS Vita and more. The biggest news here isn’t Diablo III though, the big news is Blizzard has entered into a partnership with Sony.

While we don’t know exactly what this all entails at this point, you can expect to see and hear plenty in the upcoming weeks and months from Blizzard. The massive PC developers behind World of Warcraft and tons of other popular titles will now be developing games for the PlayStation 4. Hopefully at E3 and PAX East 2013 we’ll learn all the details. Who’s excited?

Sony Just Had a Two Hour PS4 Event With No PS4

After showing us tons of awesome looking games, Sony straight up denied us the console. We have specs, we’ve seen the controller, but we haven’t seen the box. Or triangle, or orb, or whatever this non-existant hardware for the PlayStation 4 might look like. Oh and no price or release date, either. We don’t even know when Sony will tell us more. Sony stoked our excitement, and there’s no way to be satisfied. What a bummer. More »

Diablo 3 Will Be Arriving On the PS3/PS4

Diablo 3 Will Be Arriving On the PS3/PS4We’ve all heard the rumors and speculation that Blizzard could be thinking about bringing the Diablo franchise onto consoles, and it looks like those rumors were spot on! Making an appearance at Sony’s PlayStation 4 event today, Blizzard’s Chris Metzen took to the stage and revealed that Blizzard would be bringing Diablo 3 onto both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4. We’re not sure if Blizzard will be making major changes to the game for console, but right now it looks like the multiplayer mode will still support only four players and its controls have also been optimized for the PlayStation’s controllers. If you consider yourself to be a pure console gamer and have been wondering what the fuss over the Diablo 3 franchise is all about, we guess you will now be able to give it a go when it has been released. No word on when Diablo 3 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will be released, but the game will be demoed on the PlayStation 4 at PAX East which will be held in March 2013, so check back with us then for the details, or you can head on over to Blizzard’s website for the details! In the meantime who’s excited? Granted Diablo 3 isn’t exactly a “new” game per se, but bringing it onto the console might be interesting.

Square Enix shows real-time rendering at PS4 event

This week the PlayStation 4 event, Square Enix’ Chief Technology Officer Yoshihisha Hashimoto spoke up about the excellence of the system as it works with their own Luminous Studio. This next-generation technology has been presented as a game-changing push for graphics and real-live action that, like many of the presentations we’ve seen today, blurs the line between cinematics and gameplay. A demonstration was shown of this engine in action with a rather odd storyline of monks with lightning powers facing off against gun-toting violence-tossers – and so very many camera angles ensued.

This announcement comes on the same day as Square Enix released info pertaining to their new title Murdered: Soul Suspect. That game will be released for the PlayStation 3 while the PlayStation 4 releases from the development company remain under wraps – for the most part.

Square Enix’ own Sinji Hashimoto, brand director for Final Fantasy, stood on stage speaking about – you guessed it – a new Final Fantasy title. While he didn’t give specifics on the title’s name nor its content, he did suggest that more information would be released at E3 2013. Tune in then!

Have a peek at the timeline below for more information on the PlayStation 4 and everything included in its release. This event has covered a collection of new games as well as some rather interesting information about the cloud gaming capabilities of the system – and showed of the controller, too!

DRIVE CLUB revealed at Sony’s press event

Sony and Evolution Studios have collaborated to bring you a new, beautiful, team-based driving game. The game has been in development for over 10 years. The game emphasisizes team-play and you’ll be a part of a driving club (that you can join or form with your friends) that competes with other driving clubs. The game allows you to drive beautiful cars that have been designed to look just like their real-life counterparts.

DRIVE CLUB revealed at Sony's Press Event

This game isn’t just your average racing game. Each track will be prepped with a variety of fun and engaging challenges. You can choose whatever weather you want and whatever time of day you want to race in. Every level is promised to be a new, and fun experience. Evolution Studios also emphasized that you will have 24/7 untethered access to your club. Races will be asynchronized and played in real-time.

There’s the first-person perspective that makes you feel like you’re actually driving the car. It shows “you” opening the car door, getting behind the wheel, fastening your seat belt, and taking off in your expensive, possibly foreign-engineered sports car. All of the cars are designed to look exactly like the real-life counterpart its supposed to resemble. The folks at Evolution Studios visited car manufacturers frequently just to make sure they have every detail right. While the cars may be digital, they’ll look very real and very much like they do in reality.

DRIVE CLUB will be one of the PlayStation 4 games that will fully emphasize social game play. Sony wants to make the PlayStation Network one of the most powerful social gaming networks around. This game will be a dream-come-true for car fanatics, and a great game to play with your friends. Check out the other games, and PlayStation 4 features, introduced today at Sony’s press event in the timeline below.

PlayStation 4 will not have native PS3 compatibility

In case you’ve somehow missed the news, Sony just revealed some details about the highly anticipated PlayStation 4. We’re still waiting for the good stuff, but we’ve just learned the details on an important question: backwards compatibility. Today Gaikai’s CEO Dave Perry confirmed that the Playstation 4 will not have native backwards compatibility with the PS3, at least not in the usual aspect.

clouds

For those unaware, Dave Perry from Gaikai is all about cloud gaming. From Remote Play, to Playstation Cloud and more we can expect tons of good things since Sony acquired them last year. While he was on stage detailing Remote Play, he quickly mentioned the backwards compatibility issue. Don’t worry though folks because you’ll still be able to enjoy those old classics, just through the cloud.

Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 4 cloud-gaming console will stream original PS1, PS2 and PS3 games all from the cloud. Using their upcoming and next-gen cloud gaming system you’ll be able to enjoy all those classic titles right from Sony. We don’t know all the details yet but the PlayStation Cloud Service will be the center of it all.

Interestingly enough we didn’t get any further details regarding compatibility and how this will all work. Will gamers automatically be able to stream games they own from the cloud? Or will we have to buy them again digitally from the cloud service and PlayStation Network. We’ll be looking for more details as they become available to stay tuned to our PlayStation 4 Portal.

PlayStation 4 cloud services bringing “Everything Everywhere”

This week the PlayStation 4 was revealed with no less than Gaikai-powered cloud gaming prepared for a future in which Sony’s aim is “Everything Everywhere.” In this case it means that PlayStation 3 games will be able to be played by any device at any time, streaming over the web rather than being physically run from a disk on the system. PlayStation 3 games, they’ve made sure to say and define several times as separate from PlayStation 4 games, will not run natively on the PlayStation 4, but with Gaikai technology you’ll be able to work with these games via the cloud.

everything

Your PS4 experience is set to be a Shared Experience as outlined in the article we’ve just posted about Remote Play. Players across the world will be able to take over for you when you’re in the middle of a game – but that’s only one part of the puzzle. With Gaikai gaming technology, you’ll be seeing your favorite PlayStation 3 games being able to be played from your smartphone, your tablet, your PS Vita, and your PC.

If you’ve been following Gaikai, you know that they’ve been purchased by Sony (last year) and are now revealing that the work they’ve done is not just made for the PlayStation 4, but for the whole PlayStation universe. You can expect to work with games like Knack with its multi-player action and Hawken – already available in free Beta mode on PC – to be available through Gaikai’s software in the future for all devices. It’s time to stream!

Sony discusses Gaikai cloud gaming

Sony plans for the PlayStation network to be one of the fastest, most powerful networks available. It has enhanced social play immensely, with one example being a notification feature that notifies you whenever someone on your PlayStation Network friends list purchases a new game. It has also announced that it has huge plans for Gaikai, and its cloud-gaming services, and that it will change the future of PlayStation games altogether.

Sony Gaikai

With cloud-gaming, and Gaikai, Sony will allow you to experience any game that you want. It allows players to try out games without having to purchase it first. This way you’re able to test out the game and see if you like it before you spend your hard-earned cash on it. Sony’s take on it is that they want players to “only pay for games that they fall in love with.”

Sony’s vision for Gaikai is very game-changing. It said that there are many titles available in the PlayStation 3 category, and even discussed the amount of titles available for the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable devices. It’s vision is that one day, through Gaikai, all of these games will be available through the cloud, and be compatible with the PlayStation 4. This will “change the nature of longevity.” This not only confirms that the PlayStation 3 titles will be backwards compatible (not natively) with the PlayStation 4, but games from the older PlayStations as well.

The Gaikai Cloud Gaming service is still in-progress, and Sony says that its availability will be distributed in stages. Gaikai is revolutionary, with Sony believing it to be an investment in its players. It says that there are millions of players who would love to have all of their PlayStation games, from the past, present, and in the future to be available to them in at any given time.

Sony announces Remote Play, brings PS4 titles to the Vita

Sony has just announced their all new PlayStation 4. While we’re still slowly but surely getting all the details a few things are already clear. That being this device will be a gamer-centric platform, have nearly unlimited amounts of social aspects, and of course now their talking about essentially cloud gaming. You’ll now be able to use Remote Play to stream and continue games on the PS Vita.

Screen Shot 2013-02-20 at 3.33.55 PM

The PlayStation cloud service does more than just stream games, you’ll also be able to share games with friends. Yup, if you get stuck and can’t figure out a situation just hit that share button on the new controller and invite a friend to help you out. While we’re still waiting for more details on their cloud service one thing is clear – Things are about to get crazy.

Remote Play works on multiple levels. From sharing games with others, to continuing where you left off right on your PlayStation Vita. This means everyone that has that awesome device can stream their game right to the 5-inch display on the go. If the kids take over the living room, or your dad wants to watch Monday Night Football – simply leave the PS4 on and continue right where you left off with the Vita.

Just like NVIDIA’s recently announced Project SHIELD you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful HD games with stunning visuals being powered by the PS4, but streamed to your VITA. We have a feeling we’ll be hearing much more on this, and hopefully Sony will also be integrating Remote Play with their wide array of Xperia Android-powered smartphones. The image above certainly hints to tablet support, although then that would skip over the possibility of selling more Vita units. We’re unsure how many titles will initially be supported, but they claim to eventually offer all PS4 games with Remote Play. Stay tuned for more details as they all come available.

PlayStation 4 Has 16x More RAM Than PS3 or Xbox 360

The new PlayStation 4 has 8 GB of RAM, which is a huge industry-leading number. But it’s even crazier when you realize that the Playstation 3 only had 512 MB of RAM—256 for the system and 256 for video. The Xbox 360 has the same. More »
