The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Sony’s next PlayStation, which is expected to be announced on February 20th, will include a new technology that’ll allow it to stream video games. Yep, streaming to play. More »
Rumors of Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 4 have certainly been gaining some traction, and according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it seems that it is possible that we can expect the PlayStation 4 to be able to stream PlayStation 3 games, as well as play new PlayStation 4 games via optical disk. “The new technology, to be unveiled Wednesday along with the new console, will allow users to play games delivered over the Internet, these people said. The streaming service, they added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.”
This notion isn’t completely ludicrous because if you recall, back in 2012 Sony acquired online gaming company Gaikai, so for them leverage Gaikai’s services for its upcoming PlayStation 4 would not be a stretch of the imagination. That along with a recent rumor suggesting that the next-gen PlayStation will be focusing more on its playing options rather than merely hardware would certainly support this latest report. We’re not 100% sure how Sony plans to implement this, but it is definitely worth taking note at least for now. Sony will be holding an event on the 20th of February, so be sure to check back with us then for the details.

Seeing how many rumors of the PlayStation 4 and next-generation Xbox have been circulating over the past few months, it’s safe to say the next generation of video game consoles will soon be upon us. How soon has been anyone’s guess, but if some leaked marketing materials for Ubisoft’s upcoming game Watch Dogs is to be believed, then you better start saving up now to buy your next-generation consoles this holiday season.
When Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs debuted at E3 2012, we knew it would be a next-generation game shortly after its debut that would make its way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well. Leaked promotional materials were obtained by Kotaku which call Watch Dogs a game for “all home consoles” expected to be released this holiday season.
This leaked promotional material pretty much confirms the PlayStation 4 and next-generation Xbox will be made available this holiday season, which means you have nine months of saving to plan if you expect to pick either one of them up later this year.

A leaked PlayStation 4 prototype controller was leaked across the Internet yesterday, and today, we’re seeing an additional image of that controller pop up again today.
The leaked PlayStation 4 prototype controller that we’re seeing today looks more like the traditional DualShock controller all PlayStation owners have become accustomed to. Once again, there’s a touchpad towards the top of the face of the controller where the Start, Select and PlayStation button were originally located on the PlayStation 3′s DualShock controller. We also notice the grips of the controller look a little more slender than yesterday’s leak, which could just be due to the photo being taken at a different angle.
It’s being widely speculated Sony’s press event being held next week in New York City will debut the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be attending since it’s a media only event. The good news is we’ll be there and will pass along as much information as possible concerning the PlayStation 4, if it is in fact debuting next week.

The Daily Roundup for 02.14.2013
Posted in: Today's ChiliYou might say the day is never really done in consumer technology news. Your workday, however, hopefully draws to a close at some point. This is the Daily Roundup on Engadget, a quick peek back at the top headlines for the past 24 hours — all handpicked by the editors here at the site. Click on through the break, and enjoy.
Game site Destructoid has stumbled upon a photo of what looks like a never-seen before PlayStation controller. Obviously, the first question that comes to mind is : is that the PlayStation 4 controller? First of all, let’s take a look: the biggest change is in the middle, and there seems to be a glossy surface that could be a touch display or a display of some sort. Secondly the little holes in the middle do look like a microphone – possibly for voice commands. Or it may just be a weird speaker. At the very bottom, there is a little protrusion that may be a 3.5mm headphone jack, which would be great for multiplayer games, or for silent play in general.
In the front the glowing thing reminds me of the Move controllers, so I dare speculating that this would be used for motion tracking, and if that was the case, this would mean that more titles could rely on some form of basic motion sensing. It’s really fun to speculate over this, but in the end, I would bet that this is a prototype rather than the final controller. That said, it may provide good hints as of what type of functionality the final controller may have. Also, keep in mind that most prototypes come with all possible extensions and connectors, but it doesn’t mean that the final product will. What do you think?
We’ll have more answers next week as Ubergizmo is heading to Sony’s PlayStation event in New York. Stay tuned!

We’ve been hearing a number of PlayStation 4 rumors over the past few months that discuss its hardware that may be stronger than the next-generation Xbox, its controller capable of touch inputs as well as its retail price.
A new PlayStation 4 rumor is circulating today from a Japanese news outlet Nikkei who is sourcing an unidentified official of Sony Computer Entertainment. The source revealed Sony isn’t focusing as much on its upcoming console’s ability to deliver amazing graphics, instead, it’s focusing more on delivering “new playing options” to its customers. In addition, Sony also has planned to make its next PlayStation a “nerve center” for home entertainment by connecting and sharing information via mobile devices. (more…)

Many believe that the PlayStation 4 will be released this year, although when exactly remains to be seen, but at the same time it is speculated that the announcement at the very least will take place on the 20th of February. The next question on everyone’s minds (we’re assuming!) is that how much will the console cost once it goes on sale? Now the PlayStation 3 was definitely not cheap when it was released, although considering it was a huge step up from the PlayStation 2, we guess we can understand why it was priced so expensive at its early stages.
Now according to a newspaper Asahi Shimbun (translate by Gematsu), word has it that the PlayStation 4 could cost around $427 (after conversion from the Japanese Yen). This is compared to the PS3 which cost around $500 at launch for the 20GB version, but perhaps with technology being more advanced these days, it is possible that manufacturing the PS4 could be cheaper which is why Sony is able to price the device more affordably. Either way it is speculation for now, but hopefully come 20th February there will be more details to share, but in the meantime what do you think about the possible price tag? Fair?

PlayStation 4 rumors are starting to get hot, especially since the WSJ claims that the PlayStation 4 will be announced at Sony’s 20th of February event. While that may or may not be true, we’re sure that many PS4 hopefuls are still curious as to what sort of games they might be able to expect at the launch of the console, and according to STFUandPlay (backed up by Polygon author aegies), it seems that come 20th of February we can expect to see a next-gen racing game announced, as well as a project that Killzone studio Guerilla Games has been working on.
The specifics of the games were not revealed, but according to the information, the next-gen racer is said to be similar in play style of Project Gotham Racing, and the team behind it originally planned for it to be a Gran Turismo title but apparently Sony Japan did not give them to go ahead. Either way assuming the rumors are true, it looks like the 20th of February could be an interesting day for all of us. If you’re curious to see if the rumors pan out, be sure to check back with us then as we will keep you updated with the news!
