PS3 PlayStation Store Gets PayPal Support

PS3 PlayStation Store Gets PayPal Support

Sony has announced that starting today, users can add funds to their Sony Entertainment Network wallet through PS3 PlayStation Store which now supports PayPal. PayPal integration was initially introduced in January earlier this year, but back then the Sony Entertainment Network wallet could only be funded through PayPal via the web. Only recently Sony added the option to add funds to the wallet through mobile devices, using the Mobile Billing option. PayPal support in PS3 PlayStation Store will now make it much more easier, and faster, to fund the wallet through the console itself.

Gamers who are concerned about the security of their payment details will be satisfied with the inclusion of PayPal. Who can forget the PlayStation Network breach back in 2011 which saw personal information of millions of users being leaked, PayPal support adds an additional level of security in this regard. To add funds to the Sony Entertainment Network wallet through PS3, all users have to do is click “Add Funds” when checking out from the cart on PlayStation Store. Clicking on “PayPal” will allow them to transfer any amount from $5 to $150, which is the maximum balance the wallet can hold. The wallet can be used to purchase a number of things from the PlayStation Store, such as movies, TV episodes, PS3 games and more.

Sony PlayStation Store Version 1.02 Updated

sony psstore update Sony PlayStation Store Version 1.02 Updated You know what they say – the old must go before the new will come, and the same can be said of the new and latest version of the Sony PlayStation Store, which has been bumped up to version 1.02. Thing is, the previous version not only looked better than the even older version (but of course, that would only make perfect sense), unfortunately, some have said that the performance is nothing short of awful. Good to know that Sony has just released another PlayStation Store update which will, keep your fingers crossed, make short work of whatever issues there were with the store prior.

After all, what do you have to lose? If you are interested in giving the new store a go, all you need to do is click on the PlayStation Store icon, and go ahead by installing the update that will bump you all the way up to version 1.02, which has been deemed to be a whole lot faster compared to its predecessor. Do be forewarned, the boot up process remains slow as normal.

    PS Store for PS3 revamped

Sony has recently announced that they are more than proud and happy to introduce a spanking new PlayStation Store specially for the PS3 console. The entire PlayStation Store’s interface is said to have been overhauled, boasting of a more streamlined look, and it will no doubt need to live up to expectations, hence sporting snappier response times in addition to a layout that is more hierarchical, resulting in fewer top-level categories than before. With the new revamp, you are able to enjoy extra features such as streaming trailers, improved search, and a new filter among others. Initial tests for the search were reported to be high on the satisfactory level, which is always a good thing.

The new PS Store update is thankfully mandatory, and good thing the entire shebang weighs in at a mere 26MB which should not take too long to download for most of us with modern day Internet connections. The next time you launch the PlayStation Store on your PS3, you will be prompted to install the update. As for folks using the PS Vita and PSP, the PlayStation Store on both platforms will remain the same.

If you’re experiencing a case of déjà vu, the update was originally set to hit back on October 23rd, but was sidelined after its UK launch was derailed by some early performance hiccups. Now that it’s here, users will be treated to a snazzy new UI along with Most Popular charts, streaming videos on item pages, improved filters and an enhanced search engine. If you haven’t already, you can grab this update by firing up your PS3 and directing the XMB to the PlayStation Store icon.

PlayStation Store redesign goes live in Australia, Europe and New Zealand with a rocky start

PlayStation Store redesign goes live in Australia, Europe and New Zealand with a rocky start

Sony vowed a long (long, long) overdue PlayStation Store remake starting this week, and it delivered just that today with launches in Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand. As promised, the PS3 shop’s cleaner design scales more elegantly from standard to high definition, brings more intelligent searching and makes it easier to find everything related to a given game. We still wouldn’t be too eager to dive in just yet, as there’s been hiccups early on — the sheer amount of traffic has reportedly brought the new store to a crawl, on top of teething issues with adding funds and recognizing PlayStation Plus memberships. Sony has promised fixes, but we’re suddenly not feeling so bad about having to wait for that October 23rd North American launch.

PlayStation Store update hitting PAL regions on October 17th, North America on October 23rd

PlayStation Store update hitting PAL regions on October 17th, North America on October 23rd

If you feel the current design of the PlayStation Store leaves a lot to be desired, then you’ll probably be glad to hear it’s being totally revamped. A new UI should do a better job of pushing fresh content at you, and its appearance will be consistent regardless of whether you’re outputting in standard or high def. Searching has been improved to handle abbreviations and misspellings, and a dynamic list of suggestions will try to work out what you’re looking for as you type. Also, Vita and PSP content will be separated, new filters will be available and content hubs will offer everything linked to a certain title, à la the Xbox 360 Marketplace. Sound good? Well, there’s not long to wait – it’ll be launching in PAL regions (Europe, Asia, Australia and others) on October 17th, while North Americans will receive it almost a week later, on October 23rd.

Sony shuts down PSP Comic Store after October 30th, leaves most of us in the lurch for now

Sony shuts down PSP Comic Store after October 30th, leaves North Americans in the lurch

PSP Comic Store, we hardly knew ye. No really, we hardly knew ye — which is probably why Sony is warning PSP owners that its comic book portal is shutting down after October 30th. Come Hallowe’en, we’ll lose the option to download the necessary app or buy additional titles. Any currently owned comics will be available to download again until mid-January, but readers will be on their own to preserve existing libraries after that. Outside of Japan, that creates significant problems for literary PlayStation fans: while PS Vita owners in Sony’s home country will get a Manga store and reader in October, there’s no equivalent crutch for other countries (or any PSP owners) at this stage. The console maker is non-committal and says there’s nothing it can discuss “at the moment,” which to us is a hint that we shouldn’t plan our reading hours around a PSP or PS Vita in the near future.

    [Thanks, Sooraj]

Sony announces PlayStation Store for PlayStation Mobile

If you own a PlayStation-certified Sony Xperia Android handset, it looks like your wallets might be on the verge of getting lighter. Sony has officially announced that come 3rd of October, they will be launching the PlayStation Store for PlayStation Mobile. Basically this will give users with PlayStation-certified devices access to the store where they will be able to purchase PlayStation Mobile games. Not everyone will be getting access to the store at launch and only countries such as the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia will be the lucky few.

We expect more countries to be added to the list at a later date, but for those living in the countries listed above, you will have 30 games to choose from to download, with more hopefully being added in the future. Interestingly for those living in Japan where Fujitsu and Sharp smartphones are abundant, Sony has also revealed that selected Fujitsu and Sharp smartphones will also be granted PlayStation certification so you guys will also be able to access the PlayStation Store without having to own a Sony device.

Fox kicks off its Digital HD initiative by joining Google Play and YouTube, offering movies early

Google Play and YouTube add Fox movies and TV shows, use Prometheus as a lure

Fox embraced a radical thought when it outlined its Digital HD initiative earlier this month: customers are more likely to buy digital movies if the content isn’t artificially delayed and priced to match the releases on conventional discs. The studio is about to see if that gamble on common sense pays off. As of today, you’ll find 600-plus Fox movies ready to buy or rent in HD across every major digital video store in the US, with many downloads cleared to arrive ahead of their physical counterparts at lower prices that reflect a disc-free reality. The media giant has also decided to play nicely with Google after a longstanding absence, putting its movies and TV shows on Google Play Movies and YouTube. Its tentpole movie release Prometheus is unsurprisingly being used as the prime incentive to try Digital HD; the title is available online three weeks before the Blu-ray launch at a more reasonable $15 price. The sci-fi thriller is even Fox’s first movie destined for UltraViolet cloud lockers. Only Americans will have expanded access to movies and TV at first, but it shouldn’t be too long before many countries can be creeped out by Michael Fassbender’s android — including on their Android devices.
