Mayan-style Pokémon art: Apokélypto

Mona – an artist type human – makes what she calls Pokémayans: drawings of Pokémon that are supposedly done in the style of ancient Mayan art. The name fooled me into thinking that I’d see Pokémon crossed with the Wayans brothers, but I guess this one’s aight too. pokemon pokemayan by monarobot If you browse Mona’s blog you’ll see that she significantly improved her Pokémayan style, culminating in her wonderful take on Gyarados.

Pokémon Rumble U Trailer Depicts Use Of NFC Figures

We did talk about how Angry Birds Star Wars II will make use of the presence of physical toys in order to “summon” characters into the game – not exactly the newest concept in town, but it certainly adds a different dimension into what is most probably an overworked franchise that should have been shot down and slaughtered some time back. After all, the basic premise of the game still remains the same, and it is more or less putting in old wine into new wineskins, with some modifications made to the vintage. This has not stopped Nintendo from working on Pokémon Rumble U, which will obviously be headed towards the Nintendo Wii U, while sporting the use of NFC figures.

The Wii U eShop title is already available in Japan, although it will only make its way to Europe this coming August 15th, before finding landfall on North America near the end of this month, that is, August 29th. Pokémon Rumble U is the sequel to the 3DS title Pokémon Rumble Blast, where it will boast of Pokémon from all five generations, while making use of the Wii U’s NFC capabilities that will sport optional figures (in other words: another way to get you to spend more money).

Pokémon X & Y Starters Stuffed Toys: The Only Time You Can Choose All Three

The release of Pokémon X and Y is still about three months away. But because we live in the age of pre-orders, Banpresto is already dangling plushies of the game’s starter monsters to fans. You don’t have to choose between Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie either, because you can order them as a set. Also because Froakie is the only correct choice.

You can pre-order the 5.11″ plushies from NCSX for about $16 (USD) each or $40 for all three. Animeraro also has the DX edition of the stuffed toys; they’re about 9″ tall and sell for $30 each or $70 for the set.

Pokémon Poké Ball Cup: When You Gotta Catch a Drink

I’m sorry to disappoint athletic Pokémon fans out there. This is not a jockstrap, it’s a drinking cup shaped like the monster catching Poké Ball. I’m not sure if it’s licensed, but I’m pretty sure Nintendo would rather license this and release all of its games on iOS than approve a Pokémon Ball Cup.

It holds 20 oz. of liquid. Er, drinks. Dammit you and your dirty minds! You can order one from PartyBell for $3 (USD), although as of this writing they’re on sale for $2.

Pokémon Generations: Learn to Take a Hint, Game Freak

A lot of gamers have been begging Nintendo and developer Game Freak for a 3D, open world and real-time version of the money-printing Pokémon series. The upcoming Pokémon X/Y might meet the first two requests, but not the last one. Maybe Game Freak should check out this fan game called Pokémon Generations.

    pokemon generations fan game

Currently being developed by IndieDB member Xatoku, Pokémon Generations is, er, it’s Ni No Kuni. But with Pokémon. I know that sounds blasphemous, but I think that’s the best way to describe it. Here’s the launch trailer for its latest version:

Here’s a quick combat sequence courtesy of YouTuber wwm0nkey1:

See what I mean by my Ni No Kuni comparison? In Pokémon Generations, movement and timing become key components in battles. You don’t just select an attack and watch its animation play out. It looks like the battles will have environmental components as well. But don’t get too excited yet. The game is pretty much in pre-alpha state, as you’ll see in this in-depth video by YouTuber MunchingOrange:

If you still want to try it out, you can download the launcher on IndieDB. I stopped being a Pokémon fan years ago, but I still wish Xatoku can finish the game so we can finally appreciate the hilarious size discrepancies between pokémon.

Japan gets a pair of exclusive Pokemon X and Y 3DS XLs, world seethes with envy

    Image

Nintendo has a history of releasing snazzy special edition hardware outside of the U.S. and two Japan-only Pokemon X & Y 3DS XLs have now been added to it. The blue passive-3D dual-screen handheld features a pair of new legendary pocket monsters — Xerneas and Yveltal, if you’re curious — and is out October 12th. The second of the duo is going to be more elusive than a Mew. To snatch a metallic gold 3DS XL (also with Xerneas, plus a slew of others), being in Japan to coincide with X & Y’s release isn’t enough: fighting off the rest of the trainers at Pokemon Center retailers October 12th is on the bill, too. May the best Pokemaster — with 22,800 yen ($227) — win! You didn’t think The Big N was gonna make it easy to catch ’em all, did you?

    R/C Pokemon Pikachu

I cannot believe it that it has been more than a decade already that the Pokemon game series has been released, and it does seem to be going strong even until this day. Having said that, there has been plenty of Pokemons that have endeared themselves to to different folks, but Pikachu has garnered quite a fair number of followers to date. Should you love this little yellow electric type Pokemon, you can get hold of this $34.99 R/C Pokemon Pikachu, which is capable of bending at its waist, racing around as long as its quartet of AA batteries still have juice in them.

With the R/C Pokemon Pikachu, you will be able to do your bit to become the World’s Greatest R/C Pokemon Master, although there is not much “glory” attached to such a title. This is another marketing ploy to have you collect ‘em all, all over again. Too bad the batteries cannot be used to electrocute someone whom you do not like in the room, though. Not only that, there are no candies that you can feed your Pikachu with in order to have it gain a special ability, other than to keel over and die when the batteries run out.
