With so much crazy going around these days, its a hairy time to be in law enforcement. But with this door-breaching, bullet-stopping, car-towing robo-tank in front of them, SWAT units will be unstoppable. More »
Law enforcement didn’t pull any punches during its manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombers, going so far as to lock down an entire metropolis while they searched. Even when officers thought they had the second suspect cornered in Watertown boat, they confirmed their suspicions with a camera that can spot people from up to 10 miles away. Just to be sure. More »
It seems that the Yankton Police Department has a powerful new ally in their midst, and it does not need to be trained for years – although having the right kind of algorithms would certainly come in handy. Basically, the Yankton Police Department has purchased a new robot which can scout potentially dangerous scenes right before officers make the decision to barge in.
Officer Michael Burgeson mentioned to KCAU-TV that in the line of duty, there are moments when a situation which could possibly involve a gunman cannot be avoided, and in order to minimize the risk of the loss of life, the police department will instead send out the robot to the particularly suspicious area before officers follow up. Just a few hundred dollars were spent in order to ensure the robot has been deemed certified for state and local law enforcement agencies to purchase used military equipment. In fact, this robot has already received a nickname – R2-D2, in honor of the droid that could in the Star Wars film franchise.

All right, so New York’s finest might not have a Lamborghini to drive around and catch baddies in, but they do have some tools to help them in the eternal battle against crime. One of the latest tools in the Police Department’s crime-fighting arsenal would be a regular Android-powered smartphone, where approximately 400 phones have been distributed to officers to aid them in their patrol duty.
For instance, an officer can type in a particular building’s street address, where all it takes are just a few taps of the screen, and he will be greeted by a comprehensive collection of information right there in the palm of his hand. Imagine said officer gaining access to every resident’s name with an open warrant, arrest record or previous police summons, including domestic incident reports in the apartment, as well as residents with orders of protection against them, among others. This helps the police officers on duty to be able to identify just where are the particular “hotspots” and make sure that their presence would act as a deterrent for would-be crimedoers.

Thanks to an NYPD pilot program, over 400 officers have special Android smartphones that allow them to pull up suspect data on the spot, according to the New York Times. Patrol car-mounted laptops can be slow and cumbersome, while the call-disabled handsets (which look like Samsung’s Rugby Smart in the image above) let patrolmen see a suspect’s criminal record on the spot and even know if a felon hides drugs “in his left sock,” according to one cop. The custom app can also dig up info like open warrants, arrest and incident records, orders of protection and photos of everyone who’s been arrested in a particular building, for instance. They can even drum up the location of every video camera pointed at a particular spot — so, watch where you spit that gum, scofflaw.

Police have raided one of Samsung’s offices in Asan, South Korea, after being tipped off about the possible theft of OLED TV technology from rivals LG. More »
We had hoped that the dispute between Samsung and LG over their OLED tech would be resolved soon but recent developments suggest that may not be the case. Bloomberg reports Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency investigators entered the Samsung Display HQ in Asan as they look into the possibility that LG partners may have leaked secrets of its technology. A Samsung spokesperson denied any involvement, and an LG spokesperson is quoted saying the police made the allegation themselves. This comes after Yonhap News reported last month that LG accused Samsung of illegally using its patented technology and demanded Samsung Display and Samsung Electronics pay for the rights. While these two continue to duke it out legally, we have yet to see an OLED HDTV from either arrive in the US and it seems like it may be quite some time until that happens.

Mississippi Man Caught Double-Texting With 3-Year-Old, Drugs In His Vehicle
Posted in: Today's ChiliAT&T conducted a survey last week that found adults text and drive more than teenagers, but after hearing about this next story, we’re curious just how many of drivers out there double text and drive, which is probably as dangerous as it sounds as it involves a person texting and driving with two mobile devices.
According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, 19-year-old Dandre Moore was found to be texting while driving his vehicle, which by itself is already a serious matter. But what officers found was Moore driving his vehicle with his knees so he could have both hands free to text with two separate devices. It also doesn’t help Moore’s case that he had two women and a three-year-old in the back of his vehicle, 386 oxycodone pills, Xanax, marijuana and $5,000 in cash. You would think with that amount of precious cargo, Moore might want to play it low-key. (more…)

We’re sure the man who has been spending the last six years at an Internet cafe can be considered a person who is addicted to not only the Internet, but games itself as he spends the majority of his waking moments at the cafe. But until he admits he has a problem, he’ll just continue living his life at the Internet cafe. That is, unless he one day becomes so addicted he calls the police on himself.
A 22-year-old Chinese man called the cops on himself after a two-day Internet cafe binge asking authorities to keep him away from the Internet. The man took his Internet addiction extremely serious as he sold his laptop and smartphone and even took a job with long hours to help him fight his own addiction. Ultimately, he couldn’t fight the urge to visit the Internet as he found himself in an Internet cafe in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province where he spend two whole days there. Realizing he had lost his battle with Internet addiction, he proceeded to call the police, saying “Lock me up for a few months, I can’t control myself.” (more…)
