Static Jacks: Wallflowers

Because, really, what teenager/twenty-something doesn’t dream of constructing the perfect woman out of vintage technologies? It’s certainly a lot easier than actually talking to them. In the Static Jack’s latest music video, the boys carry on the proud, mildly-misogynistic Weird Science tradition of building a better lady friend.

Gmail advanced search gets autocomplete in ‘from’ and ‘to’ fields, three lab features become standard

Image

Coming on the heels of Google announcing additional languages for Gmail search, the dev team out in Mountain View is rolling out a few more tweaks. For starters, when you use advanced search, you’ll now see autocomplete predictions in the “from” and “to” fields. Google is also “graduating” three labs: Refresh POP accounts, Filter import / export and Navbar drag and drop. Starting with that POP feature, you’ll be able to click the refresh link at the top of the inbox to populate your inbox with new messages, and also fetch messages from any other POP address you’ve got set up. Moving on, that filter import / export feature should come in handy if you want to share filters with friends or feel the need to back them up. Wrapping things up, the ability to drag and drop gadgets on the left-hand pane is good for, well, you get the idea.

Powdered Beer and Soda Makes Roughing It Not So Rough [Video]

Contraptions like the SodaStream let you mix up your own carbonated beverages at home, but the devices are far from portable. And carrying a six-pack or bottle of soda when camping is extra weight you don’t need. Thankfully an enterprising gent named Pat has created a powdered beer and soda alternative that can be hydrated and carbonated using nothing more than a lightweight plastic bottle. More »

The POP: Portable Power Station to Charge All Your Mobile Devices

With smartphones and tablets, mobile users always seem to be on the lookout for a spot for their next charge. I know that I’ve been in this situation: stuck in the middle of nowhere with no way of juicing up my phone. The POP aims to change this, thanks to its bucket-like format filled with buckets of power.

The POP, which stands for POrtable Power, is a high-capacity battery capable of recharging multiple mobile devices at the same time. It’s got a 26,000 mAh battery that can recharge an iPhone ten times. It can charge up to four iOS or microUSB devices simultaneously. Thanks to user feedback, they’ve just released a plug-in option called the POP Station which has no battery and is perfect for coffee shops and the kitchen.

The project was launched through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter and at the time of writing, it had already amassed $95,000 of a projected goal of $50,000 with 30 days of funding left. It will be made for sure. You’ll have to pledge $99 to get the AC-based POP Station and $129 for the POP Portable that has a battery. This is $20 off the $149 retail price.

As POP Crosses $85k On Kickstarter, The Company Announces The $99 POP Station, Storage Bins

The POP, short for POrtable Power, is a delicious, high-capacity battery capable of recharging portable devices. With its beastly 25,000 mAh battery, the little station is capable of recharging an iPhone ten times. But it’s not just an iOS accessory. In fact the POP’s secret sauce comes in the form of four dual-tipped retractable charging cables that feature both a dock connector and microUSB port. The company plans to retail the product at $149, but Kickstarters can pre-order it at just $129. But wait! There’s more!

Thanks to feedback from the Kickstarter community, the company plans on releasing a $99 Pop Station that features the same charging functionality, just minus the battery backup. This will provide the same charging capability for those that need a less portable solution — say for use in the kitchen or in a coffee shop.

The top portion of the POP is now a bit more functional thanks to a storage bin. The creator, James Siminoff, told me that they should have included this from the start. But after “some quick engineering to clean up the inside a bit” the top of the POP now doubles as a storage compartment for the AC adapter.

The project already surpassed its Kickstarter goal of $50,000, but there is still 30 days left on the campaign to place a pre-order and save $20 off the retail cost.

POP: a portable charger that charges up to 10 iPhones

POPIn today’s smartphone world, most of us can’t go beyond a full day without having to charge our devices at least once. This makes our chargers one of the most important accessories to have. Well, what if you have multiple devices that don’t share the same charging cable? You usually end up with a whole mess of chargers sticking out from ports all over your office/house. Well, POP aka POrtable Power aims to change that.

According to POP creator and Edison Jr. co-founder James Siminoff, the portable battery has enough capacity to charge either 10 standard smartphones or 1 1/2 third-generation iPad tablets.
