LG Hecto 100-Inch Laser TV is Perfect for Doctor Evil’s Media Room

LG has offered up a few specifications on an interesting home television display that will be on display at CES 2013 in a couple weeks. This isn’t a traditional TV, it boasts a 100-inch screen with thin bezels and an ultra-short-throw projector. The projector needs only 22-inches of distance to throw a 100-inch image.

Most projectors need 10 feet or more to throw a 100-inch image. LG promises a theater-like experience at home without the difficult installation required for typical projector systems. The 5.7-inch-tall box supports full 1080p HD resolution and a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The lamps used in the projector are supposed to last as long as 25,000 hours, significantly longer than traditional projectors.

The system also supports LG’s Smart TV platform including integrated Wi-Fi and access to premium streaming services like Netflix and YouTube. The projector has three HDMI inputs, an optical audio output, and an RS-232 interface. There’s no word on pricing or availability for the new laser TV at this point.

LG unveils Cinematic 100-inch “Hecto” laser TV

lg-logoLG has announced a new Cinematic 100-inch Class Laser TV. This isn’t a huge screen behemoth with all the components inside as you envision a typical television. Rather, this television uses a special 100-inch screen and an external short throw projector.

The setup sounds like a throwback to the 80s when front projection screen TVs and rear projection screen TVs were the only way to get a large image in your home. LG promises the system will be demonstrated for the first time at CES 2013 kicking off next month. The 100-inch class LG Hecto Laser TV supports full HD resolution and promises incredible contrast.

The high contrast the TV promises comes courtesy of the LG advanced laser-based illumination system used in the external ultra short throw projector. LG promises that the system will offer a theater-like experience at home without the difficult installation required with most projector-based entertainment systems. The projector needs only 22-inches of space from the screen to throw the 100-inch image.

The dynamic contrast ratio for the television system is 1,000,000:1. The laser TV also has a digital tuner with a pair of 10 W speakers providing integrated sound. Connectivity options include three HDMI inputs, optical audio output, RS-232 interface, and more. The screen used in the television system has a thin bezel and the laser TV supports the LG Smart TV platform including integrated Wi-Fi for streaming content such as Netflix and YouTube. Pricing and availability on the Hecto Laser TV is unknown.

LG announces HECTO Laser TV 100″ projector

LG HECTO 610x407 LG announces HECTO Laser TV 100 projectorPersonally I do most of my movie watching on my computer since my monitor is decently sized, plus having a projector setup is a little out of my budget. However if you have the money to spare and you’re looking to build a home theatre setup, you might be interested to learn that LG has a new projector dubbed the HECTO Laser TV which will have the ability to project images or movies up to 100” wide, meaning you’re going to need a much larger room if you’re hoping to install this bad boy in your house.

Not being content with being a mere projector with a 100” projection, the HECTO will come with a special screen and an external Ultra Short Throw (UST) projection unit (fixed at 22″). The device will also feature 1080p Full HD resolution and 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, along with dual 10W speakers which will be convenient for those who are trying to cut costs on speakers, or who are looking for a temporary fix while they are still selecting their perfect pair of speakers. Other features include a trio of HDMI ports, audio out, an RS-232 interface and will also feature Smart TV functionality with support from LG’s new Magic Remote. LG will be demonstrating the HECTO at CES 2013 taking place next month, so be sure to check back with us then for the details. [Press release]

LG 'Hecto' laser TV projector to debut at CES 2013, promises a 100inch screen from 22inches away

As LG continues its slew of CES 2013 pre-announcements, the latest is a new display technology it’s bringing to the projection arena, an ultra short throw laser projector. Capable of creating a 100-inch screen from just 22 inches (56cm) away, the “Hecto” Laser TV a 1080p shooter that can change the way owners design their home theater. If you’d like to use it as an all-in-one home theater to go (the screen is included, picture after the break), it also has a digital tuner and 10w speakers built-in, with three HDMI inputs, an RS-232 port and Smart TV capabilities controlled by LG’s Magic Remote. As you can see above, it follows LG’s “Dynamic Arc Design” with a max height of just 5.7-inches. It carries a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio with WiDi and Miracast compatibility and LG claims the laser system will run for up to 25,000 hours without replacement. There’s no word on pricing or release date, although it likely won’t be value priced. We expect to get a few more details when we see it in Las Vegas, check the press release after the break for all the information currently available.

LG Unveils a Gigantor 100-Inch Laser Projector: You’re Gonna Need Bigger Walls

Conventional video projectors have remained largely a niche market for dedicated home theater enthusiasts on account of their difficult installation. However, a new breed of “home projector” has developed over the past few years into an increasingly viable alternative to flat panel televisions. And if LG’s new 100-inch class LG “HECTO” Laser TV is any indicator, the LED/Plasma debate may be moot. More »

Samsung unveils Pico Projector accessory for Galaxy products

Samsung‘s efforts with the Galaxy Beam were valiant, but the device itself disappeared into the abyss with no real impact on the market. However, Samsung is trying it again, but this time they’re making a dedicated Pico Projector accessory built to be compatible with the company’s Galaxy line of products.

The Samsung EAD-R10 mini-projector is currently available for sale in South Korea, and all you needs to do to get it up and running is connect a MHL-supported Galaxy device to the projector and then you’ll be off to the races, projecting images with up to 20ANSI lumens and an nHD resolution (640×360).

The projector accessory features a loudspeaker, a focus control button, HDMI-out, and a 1650mAh battery, with a price of around $220. The device is about as big as a Galaxy S III, and it’s only about a half of an inch think, so it can easily fit into a pocket for portability purposes. It also has a full-size HDMI-in port so you can also plug it into laptops and other devices.

The device promises two hours of non-stop projecting, and hopefully that’s true, since most movies are usually an hour and a half to two hours long. We’re not sure if this new accessory will be hitting other countries or not, but even if it did land in the US, we’re not sure if the device would really take off, especially considering the $200+ price tag.
