EPIX Launches On PS3, PS Plus Subscribers Get A Free Movie Every Week

EPIX Launches On PS3, PS Plus Subscribers Get A Free Movie Every Week

At the beginning of 2013, Sony announced it would be welcoming EPIX into its stable of video streaming applications for both its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. It took nearly three months since their original announcement, but EPIX is finally available on the PlayStation 3 starting today.

EPIX, just like other premium cable channels, will require you to be a subscriber of its service in order for you to get everything it has to offer. PSN users are able to check out EPIX for free through a 14-day trial, although EPIX will be offering a new movie for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, regardless if they’re a subscriber to their video service or not. If you’ve been on the fence whether to be a PS Plus member or not, now would be a pretty good time to sign up for the service. (more…)

PS4: PlayStation Plus Will Play A ‘Prominent Role’ For Console’s Landscape

PS4: PlayStation Plus Will Play A Prominent Role For Consoles Landscape

Sony’s PlayStation Plus service has played an important role for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita as the company’s paid PlayStation Network service has delivered more to its subscribers than competing services, such as Microsoft’s Xbox Live. Seeing how the PlayStation 4 was revealed last week, we were pretty sure Sony had some plans to integrate PS Plus with their new console.

Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan was interviewed by the PlayStation Blog and reassured potential PlayStation 4 buyers the company hasn’t forgotten PlayStation Plus. “We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus,” Ryan says in the interview, “but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.”

Gamers shouldn’t be absolutely surprised by Ryan’s remarks as the service has done exceptionally well, especially since it isn’t necessary to be a subscriber in order to play online multiplayer games or enjoy services like Netflix or Hulu. Not only that, but this week’s mention of multiple subscription levels made us think Sony would continue making PlayStation Plus available when the PlayStation 4 releases.

Classic White Playstation 3 Bundled With One-Year PS Plus Subscription Available January 27

crystalwhite system 3 large Classic White Playstation 3 Bundled With One Year PS Plus Subscription Available January 27

We caught a glimpse of a new white PlayStation 3 that was heading into Canada according to a leaked Best Buy listing.  It looks like the often-snowy land of Canada won’t be the only country to get its white PlayStation 3 fix as Sony announced today it will also be bringing it to the good ole’ U.S.A.

The Classic White PlayStation 3 will come with a 500GB hard drive, but it’ll also come with a year-long PS Plus Subscription that will add a bunch of titles through the subscriptions Instant Game Collection. This is the second time Sony has bundled its hardware with its PS Plus service, the first time being their PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection PS Vita Bundle. If you picked up that bundle and, for some reason, have yet to pick up a PlayStation 3, then this bundle would be a great addition as you’ll have two years of PS Plus service under your belt. Plus, you’ll be the envy of all of your friends who have a boring black PlayStation 3.

Expect the Classic White PlayStation 3 bundle to be made available the same day as our friends up north, which is January 27, 2013.

PS Plus Members Get 1-Year Music Unlimited Premium Subscription For $1 Monthly

If you are a PS Plus member, then it is definitely time for a heads up – just what can you get for a buck these days? Not much at all, although sometimes you might come across offers and deals at fast food joints that let you pick up a burger at that price point. Well, PS Plus members, for just $1 each month, you will be able to enjoy a 1 year Music Unlimited premium subscription, now how about that? It is said that this is a limited time offer only, although you do need to fork out the $12 annual fee beforehand (which is where the $1 a month calculation comes in), resulting in helping you save more than $100 each year based off the normal price of $9.99 a month.

If you so happen to be a Premium subscriber, you can then access all the features found in the cloud-based music service as well as the entire catalog of over 18 million songs which can be streamed ad-free across multiple devices, where among them include the PS3, PSP, PS Vita, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPod, Android smartphone and tablets among others.

PS Plus for PS Vita coming this November 19th

What was announced at the Tokyo Game Show is about to be fulfilled from next Monday onwards (November 19th), where the PlayStation Plus service will be headed towards the PlayStation Vita. The method of “transport” in this case? Well, it will be part of the upcoming PS Vita System Software Update v2.00. PS Plus will definitely be a boon for gamers, as it offers exclusive discounts as well as bonus features for both PS Vita and PlayStation 3 members. Apart from online storage for game saves, automatic updates and Trophy synching, PS Plus members will also be able to access the Instant Game Collection, which holds a constantly updated library selection of games.

Assuming the update process of your PS Vita to v2.00 goes as smoothly as planned, with the PS Store being published next Tuesday, PS Plus members will then be able to download the Instant Game Collection – where it carries some classic PS Vita games Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Jet Set Radio HD, WipEout 2048, Gravity Rush and Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!, as well as (PSP) PlayStation Portable hit Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. Seems to be quite the update we can look forward to, no?

PlayStation Plus cloud storage boost landing ‘soon’ with system update v4.25

If you’ve been sat impatiently tapping your fingers on the desk waiting for that extra PlayStation Plus storage, then you might want to give that hand a break. According to the PlayStation blog, it’s coming, and soon. The capacity bump will come in PS3 system update v4.25, and once installed, you’ll just need to head over to the Saved Data Utility under the XMB’s Game column to see it. Our friends over at Joystiq have pushed Sony for a more concrete time on the update’s release, but if you’ve already maxed out that current 150MB, there’s light at the end of the cloud tunnel.

Sony’s decided that you’ve been playing so much with their dedicated online service, you deserve more space for your cloud saves. From next month, users will see their cloud storage increase from 150MB to 1GB. We were also teased that the PlayStation Vita would be getting into PlayStation Plus soon, but it looks like SCEE CEO Jim Ryan is holding onto that tantalizing nugget for now. Hopefully we’ll hear more on this a bit later.
