WSJ: Vevo TV deal signed for Samsung, Apple TV platforms

Internet music video provider Vevo launched its linear channel on mobile devices, Xbox 360 and Roku back in March, and according to the Wall Street Journal, it may arrive on the PS3, Apple TV (directly, AirPlay support came last week) and Samsung’s Smart TV soon. After a rumor earlier this month from AdAge, the new report indicates deals with both Samsung and Apple are signed with a launch on the latter possible this week. That most of the people watching the streaming channel do so on TV-connected devices which, along with the desire to sell higher-priced TV ads is apparently behind the new push. The next moves for Vevo? Rolling out new channels that focus on specific genres or live music, renegotiating licenses for content, and off in the distance, perhaps a cable TV channel. For now, we’ll just pencil in a shift to reality TV shows, dramas and other non-music programming for 2019 or so.

Sony Will Let Customers Upgrade PS3 Games To PS4 At Discounted Rates

Sony Will Let Customers Upgrade PS3 Games To PS4 At Discounted Rates

Earlier today we reported on Amazon’s trade in offer that will allow customers to upgrade their Xbox 360 games to Xbox One. Sony is offering a similar program. At the Gamescom conference today, the company announced that it would allow customers to upgrade their PS3 games to PS4 at a “significantly discounted” rate. Sony also finally announced the PS4 release date at the conference today. The next generation console is going to release in North America on November 15th, followed by Europe on November 29th.

The announcement was made by Andrew House, the president of SCEA. House said that Sony sees this program as a great way to “reward PS3 gamers for their loyalty when transitioning to PS4.” The program aims to make this transition “as simple and accessible” as possible. Without offering any details about the savings customers will make due to the discounted rates, he said that select PS3 games will be supported in this program. Though House did mention that Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Warner Bros. are some of the publishers that have already signed up. Supported titles include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Battlefield 4. Additional details about the game upgrade program will be released in the near future.

12GB PlayStation 3 now available at Sony’s US online store for $200

12GB PlayStation 3 sneaks into Sony's online store for $199

After some observant readers spotted it at Walmart and Future Shop in Canada, Sony’s flash-based 12GB PlayStation 3 has turned up at its US online store. Originally slated for Europe and Hong Kong only, Sony decided to release the memory-challenged device stateside with virtually zero fanfare. It’s now listed there for $200, as well as at the above retailers and possibly others — though we’re not really sure, because again, no fanfare. PS3 Disney Infinity Reports “Locking Up” Problems

PS3 Disney Infinity Reports “Locking Up” ProblemsIt does seem as though the PlayStation 3 version of Disney Infinity has started to result in issues for select users, where some users have reported that the game itself will freeze or lock-up, resulting in it being unplayable because of a network issue that happens to be related to the game’s day one 1.01 patch. A statement on the game’s official Facebook page said, “This is not a software-related issue, and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Players with the PlayStation 3 version of Disney Infinity are still able to play single-player and multi-player co-op modes of the game by removing the patch and turning off their Playstation’s network communications.”

You will be able to check out the full instructions on how to do away with the offending patch, as well as turning off the console’s network communications over on Disney Infinity’s Facebook page. The issue itself has appeared across a variety of channels including Twitter, Facebook and the official PlayStation forums, and we do know that a fix is already in the pipeline, which is a good thing, but the sooner it is released, the better it would be for everyone generally. Are you one of those who was affected?

Capcom Essentials Bundle Confirmed, Headed For PS3 And Xbox 360

Capcom Essentials Bundle Confirmed, Headed For PS3 And Xbox 360When it comes to video games, there is nothing quite like a bundle packed in your direction, since it would mean you would have plenty of games to keep yourself occupied over a period of time without having to worry about whatever else that is going to happen in the world around – at least this is what it felt like as a student during the summer holidays, and all you ever want to do is to just sit in front of the TV and “game” your entire summer through. Capcom must have heard this clarion call, which is why they have confirmed the Capcom Essentials bundle for both the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Capcom Essentials bundle for PS3 will see five PS3 games brought together in a special collection, and just what kind of goodies can you expect to be part of this particular bundle? We are looking at Resident Evil 6, Super Street Fighter 4, Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising 2 and Mega Man 10, with the entire shebang retailing for $60. That would average out to $12 per game, which ain’t too shabby at all, considering the amount of entertainment hours that you are going to get out of them in comparison to a movie that lasts for two, three hours tops. Not only that, the Capcom Essentials bundle will also be accompanied by a branded bag, and it is ready to launch this October 8th.

NFL Sunday Ticket won’t be on PlayStation this season

We got our first taste of NFL Sunday Ticket on the PS3 back in 2011, but now Sony has confirmed it’s not available for the 2013 – 2014 season. IGN asked PlayStation reps why the app would not be active this season and they wouldn’t confirm any specific reasons. For its part, DirecTV told us it’s working on enhancing the experience for new and existing satellite customers, although those who can’t get satellite TV can still sign up for the mobile / web streaming package. That league commissioner Roger Goodell recently made a cameo in Microsoft’s Xbox One launch event probably isn’t a total coincidence, but the package won’t be available there either, at least not for this season.
