Eidos Interactive defends Tomb Raider’s Age 18+ rating

The new Tomb Raider is set to come out within the next few days and it has a lot of gamers eager to test it out. Many game critics have given the series reboot positive reviews saying that a refresh to the Tomb Raider franchise has been a long time coming. The game, however, has been receiving some concerned feedback on one aspect, and that’s the 18+ maturity rating it’s labeled with. This reboot is the first game in the entire Tomb Raider series to have an 18+ rating.

Eidos Interactive defends Tomb Raider's Age 17 rating

Despite the feedback about the maturity rating, the game developers for Tomb Raider do not believe they were wrong when they added more violence to the game. They also said that they were not influenced into adding more violence to the game because of games like Call of Duty. President of Eidos Interactive, Ian Livingstone, stated that gamers have a desire for “gritty realism”, which is exactly why the developers included all the gore, traps, hunting, and more in this game. His point is proven in this Tomb Raider trailer when we see everything that Lara Croft has to go through in order to survive.

Livingstone stated, “A decision was made to make it 18+ because of the combat involved, the graphics involved, and that gritty realism. It’s definitely the correct decision.” He stated that Eidos wanted to improve the fighting elements of Tomb Raider, because it always seemed to be placed on the back burner while the puzzle elements were front and center. While the game still follows the elements of exploration, adventure, and puzzle solving, there will be a lot more combat in this reboot.

This Tomb Raider reboot will take you back to the origins of Lara Croft and how she became who she was in the previous games. The game is set to be released world wide on March 5th via its publisher, Square Enix. In this game, you can take part in Lara Croft’s first human kill, as well as her transformation from a scared, young girl to the tough, fearless tomb raider she is in the 1996 series.

PS4: PlayStation Plus Will Play A ‘Prominent Role’ For Console’s Landscape

PS4: PlayStation Plus Will Play A Prominent Role For Consoles Landscape

Sony’s PlayStation Plus service has played an important role for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita as the company’s paid PlayStation Network service has delivered more to its subscribers than competing services, such as Microsoft’s Xbox Live. Seeing how the PlayStation 4 was revealed last week, we were pretty sure Sony had some plans to integrate PS Plus with their new console.

Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan was interviewed by the PlayStation Blog and reassured potential PlayStation 4 buyers the company hasn’t forgotten PlayStation Plus. “We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus,” Ryan says in the interview, “but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.”

Gamers shouldn’t be absolutely surprised by Ryan’s remarks as the service has done exceptionally well, especially since it isn’t necessary to be a subscriber in order to play online multiplayer games or enjoy services like Netflix or Hulu. Not only that, but this week’s mention of multiple subscription levels made us think Sony would continue making PlayStation Plus available when the PlayStation 4 releases.

The Last Of Us Development Series Episode 1: Hush

Yes, we are on the cusp of February and will enter March pretty soon (although some countries are already well into March 1st), which means we are one step closer to the June 14th release of The Last of Us. Developers of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog, have recently rolled out a new bunch of videos which will provide a straightforward look at their in-house development process. The first of these videos can be viewed above, although you will need to be of a certain age, of course.

Basically, the Last of Us will play on a very common theme these days, which deals with apocalyptic epidemics on the earth. The Last of Us has been described as a “genre-defining experience blending survival and action elements” that are used to share a character driven story concerning a population decimated by a modern plague (zombies, anyone?) Two decades after the plague kicked in fully, nature has started to reclaim the infected cities, while infected humans continue to run wild with survivors killing each other for daily supplies such as food and weapons among others. The Last of Us will launch this coming June 14 and will be a Ps3 exclusive.

YouTube For iOS Gets Send To TV Feature With Xbox 360, PS3, Smart TV Support

YouTube For iOS Gets Send To TV Feature With Xbox 360, PS3, Smart TV Support

Google introduced its Send to TV function with its YouTube Android application this past November, although it was only possible to perform the feature on Google TV set-top-boxes. Over the following weeks, native YouTube applications on game consoles and Smart TVs supported the feature, and today, iOS users can finally get in on the action as the official YouTube application has received the Send to TV” function.

The Send to TV function currently supports the Xbox 360, PS3 and Smart TVs that have a YouTube application available to it. If you’re asking where’s the support for the Wii U, we don’t think that’ll happen any time soon considering how the Wii U’s gamepad can interact with the console in a similar way. (more…)

PlayStation 4 Will Not Support PlayStation 3 Controllers

PlayStation 4 Will Not Support PlayStation 3 ControllersIt was a couple of days ago since Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4, and we’re sure that there are many gamers out there who are excited about getting their hands on the console, perhaps firing up a couple of multiplayer games. Now the bad news is that if you were hoping to save money by reusing your PlayStation 3 controllers with the PlayStation 4 rather than buying brand new DualShock 4 controllers, you’re out of luck. In a roundtable discussion held yesterday, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios revealed that PS3 controllers will not be compatible with the PS4.

This is rather odd considering that the DualShock 4 controllers aren’t a radical departure from the DualShock 3. Granted there is a touchpad embedded along with a motion sensor similar to the Move, the layout appears to be more or less similar, and it would have been reasonable to expect that games that do not require the touchpad or the motion controller would support the DualShock 3 controller. In any case if you were hoping to play multiplayer games on the same console, it looks like you got to start saving up for brand new controllers.

Sony: PSN games won’t transfer to the PS4, nor will your game saves

It’s the morning after the night before, and Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed to us that current-generation PSN titles won’t transfer across to the PlayStation 4. The company admitted last night that PS3 games wouldn’t be compatible with the latest console, but has added that it will try to make titles playable “in some form.” Because the architecture of the Power-PC-based PS3 and x86-based PlayStation 4 are so different, Sony will only bring across games that don’t guzzle the latest console’s power in emulation. The executive also said that the company aims to offer server-side and cloud services to offer a wider library of older games, but said that’s one for the “longer term.”

PlayStation 4 will not have native PS3 compatibility

In case you’ve somehow missed the news, Sony just revealed some details about the highly anticipated PlayStation 4. We’re still waiting for the good stuff, but we’ve just learned the details on an important question: backwards compatibility. Today Gaikai’s CEO Dave Perry confirmed that the Playstation 4 will not have native backwards compatibility with the PS3, at least not in the usual aspect.

clouds

For those unaware, Dave Perry from Gaikai is all about cloud gaming. From Remote Play, to Playstation Cloud and more we can expect tons of good things since Sony acquired them last year. While he was on stage detailing Remote Play, he quickly mentioned the backwards compatibility issue. Don’t worry though folks because you’ll still be able to enjoy those old classics, just through the cloud.

Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 4 cloud-gaming console will stream original PS1, PS2 and PS3 games all from the cloud. Using their upcoming and next-gen cloud gaming system you’ll be able to enjoy all those classic titles right from Sony. We don’t know all the details yet but the PlayStation Cloud Service will be the center of it all.

Interestingly enough we didn’t get any further details regarding compatibility and how this will all work. Will gamers automatically be able to stream games they own from the cloud? Or will we have to buy them again digitally from the cloud service and PlayStation Network. We’ll be looking for more details as they become available to stay tuned to our PlayStation 4 Portal.

During today’s PlayStation event Gaikai‘s Dave Perry revealed that the PS4 will not natively support PS3 games and that Sony’s next-gen console will instead stream PS1, PS2 and PS3 games from the cloud — something that the company has already confirmed on Twitter.

PlayStation Cloud Domains Hints At PS4 Game-Streaming Service?

PlayStation Cloud Domains Hints At PS4 Game Streaming Service?

Have you gotten tired of us mentioning Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 event in New York City that’s going on tomorrow night? Well – expect to be bummed out again if you are as we have some fresh news to share with you that could hint at one of the announcements we can expect from Sony tomorrow night.

We reported last week the PlayStation 4 could possibly stream PlayStation 3 games through the Internet. Today, we’re getting further proof Sony is planning something cloud based as a number of URLs related to the term “PlayStation Cloud” were registered on February 15th by Gaikai, which was purchased by Sony last July.

What exactly Sony is planning with its PlayStation Cloud service is unknown at this time, but being able to stream PlayStation 3 games, and maybe even PS1 and PS2 titles, would be a neat feature for the PlayStation 4. Considering how powerful the console may be, we’re sure it would be able to handle any service Sony throws at it.

PS3 Super Slim Red And Blue Arrive In The UK

PS3 Super Slim Red And Blue Arrive In The UKFolks living in the UK, here’s news for you – the red and blue colored PS3 consoles will launch in that part of the world tomorrow, and if you want to be specific on the kind of colors involved, we are looking at Azurite Blue as well as Garnet Red. Thing is, if your color preference tends to lie more towards the latter, then you will need to make a purchase from GAME itself, as they are the only retailers who have the Garnet Red PS3 available on an exclusive basis.

If you happen to live in the UK, just which color of the PS3 would you settle for, assuming that you have yet to make the jump to this particular console version? Perhaps those who are mulling over jumping aboard the PS3 bandwagon might want to take a pick. Gotta love the patriotism of them colors though.
