The Last Of Us Demo Will Be Available Early To God Of War: Ascension Owners

The Last Of Us Demo Will Be Available Early To God Of War: Ascension Owners

One of my highly anticipated games of 2013 is Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. I’ve seen enough footage and screenshots to know that I will be buying this game as soon as it’s released on May 7th. In fact, the sooner I get my hands on something related to The Last of Us, the happier I’ll be, which is why I was pretty stoked to hear Sony’s news regarding a demo for the game.

Sony announced there will be a demo for The Last of Us available some time before the game’s release on May 7th. PlayStation 3 owners who pick up God of War: Ascension will be able to get their hands on the demo before anyone else as Sony is giving those customers priority over everyone else.

The God of War: Ascension disc will serve as a gateway to access the demo once it’s released sometime before the release of The Last of Us. Once the demo becomes available, which we’ll be sure to report once it does, God of War: Ascension owners would need to pop in your discs, make your way to “The Last of Us” listing in the main menu, and then select it to access the demo.

Sony fined £250,000 in the UK over 2011 hacking fiasco (update)

Sony fined 250,000 over last year's hacking fiasco

A UK government agency has slapped Sony’s wrist with a £250,000 ($400,000) penalty for not doing enough to protect the personal information of its customers. The fine specifically concerns the large-scale PSN hack in April 2011, which the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) says “could have been prevented.” The agency’s head, David Smith, said that the security measures Sony had in place “were simply not good enough.” He added that Sony trades on its technical know-how, and had access to the necessary expertise to protect itself from criminal attacks:

“There’s no disguising that this is a business that should have known better.”

Though the size of the fine might seem piddling for an outfit like Sony, the ICO considers it to be a “substantial” punishment, reflecting the fact that this case is “one of the most serious” that has ever been reported to it. Check out David Smith’s statement and best angry teacher face in the video after the break.

Update: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe emailed us to say that it plans to appeal the decision. The company also agrees with the ICO’s findings that although it was the victim of a focused criminal attack, it was unlikely that personal data accessed was used for “fraudulent purposes”.

Resident Evil Revelations Headed For PS3 This May 21

re3 revelations Resident Evil Revelations Headed For PS3 This May 21Are you a huge fan of the survival horror genre when it comes to video games? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would definitely be pleased to know that Resident Evil Revelations is headed for the PS3 this coming May 21st. After all, you will spend a chunk of your gaming time exploring dark, creepy areas with little ammunition on hand, relying on your wits alone sometimes, to protect yourself from the horrors that are waiting to pounce on you. Play it at night with all the lights turned off for added effect.

Resident Evil Revelations will focus on Jill Valentine and her partner Parker as they work on tracking down Chris Redfield and his new partner Jessica Sherawat. Apart from the core campaign and co-op RAID mode, there will also be new character costumes as well as new playable characters and features to RAID mode. A more insane level of difficulty known as “Infernal Mode” will also be available just in case you want to challenge yourself. PS3 Slim Blue and Red Editions Heading to Japan This Month

The first Sony PS3 was a fat, glossy black fingerprint magnet and it was glorious. When my original PS3 finally died, I ended up buying when the new slimmer PS3′s with a matte black case. If you’ve been itching for a more colorful PS3 that is even thinner – and happen to live in Japan, you will get your wish this month.

A pair of impressively thin and sleek new PS3 consoles are headed to retail outlets in Japan this month in blue or red colors. Each of the consoles has an internal 250 GB hard drive and rather than calling them plain color names, the official colors are “azurite blue” and “garnet red.” Other than the fancy colors and thin profiles, these are still your basic PS3 consoles that have been around for a long time.

Either color PS3 super slim console will cost ¥24,980 – which working out to about $279(USD). The consoles will also ship with their own color matched DualShock controller. There’s no word on a launch for these colors outside of Japan as of yet.

This may be the last hurrah for the PS3, with rumors of a new PS4 console expected to launch later this year.

Japan To Get Red And Blue PlayStation 3 Consoles

ps3 blue Japan To Get Red And Blue PlayStation 3 Consoles It would be interesting if one were to do research on the history of consoles in terms of how they are marketed. Sure, in the past a video game console remained as it is from the day it hit the store shelves until the next generation arrives on the scene, simply because folks were not too interested in a facelift. I suppose the automotive industry had something to do with facelifts influencing the video game console business, and Sony might be credited as one of the pioneers (the Sega add-ons do not count in my opinion), where the original PlayStation came in a cuter PSOne form factor, followed by the slim version of the PS2.

Well, the PS3 has also received similar treatment, and this time around, folks living in Japan will be able to benefit from the latest super slim model of the PS3 that will arrive in two new colors – Azurite Blue and Garnet Red, from February 28th onwards. Do you think you would be picking one of these two up assuming you are on the lookout for a new PS3 since your old one gave up the ghost?

Red and blue PlayStation 3 variants to hit Japan next month

Red and blue PlayStation 3 variants to hit Japan next month

Sony’s current console line up a little too monochrome for your taste? Look towards the sunrise — a more colorful PlayStation is about to arrive in Japan. Starting next month, Japanese gamers will be able to decorate their living room with PS3s in “garnet red” and “azurite blue.” Sony says the colorful variants will be available in limited quantities when they launch on February 28th, packing a 250GB HDD and priced at ¥24,980 ($279). The colors appeared in Europe over the weekend, too — flaunting 500GB HDD and a €330 (about $440) sticker price on Amazon.de. No word on North American availability, though we wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up in a bundle somewhere down the road.

All Skyrim DLC coming to PlayStation 3 next month

Downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is finally coming to the PlayStation 3. The game’s developer, Bethesda, announced today that all three expansion DLC packs for the popular RPG will be arriving next month, beginning with Dragonborn, while Hearthfire and Dawnguard will follow shortly after.

skyrim-dlc

In addition to the DLC release, Bethesda will also out the 1.8 update for Skyrim on PS3 next month, just ahead of Dragonborn’s launch in February. While no specific release dates for any of the expansions were disclosed, PC gamers will get the Dragonborn DLC on February 5. However, all of the expansions will be 50% off during their launch on the PlayStation Network.

It’s important to point out that the Xbox 360 has had all three DLC packs for some time now. Dawnguard was released in June, Hearthfire in September, and Dragonborn in December. Bethesda said that the delay for PS3 was completely their fault, and while they didn’t mention any specifics about the problem, they were destined to fix it and make things right for gamers.

We are curious to know just how many gamers are still loyal to a game that hasn’t seen any new content in over a year, but the developer’s heavy discount of the DLC packs when they eventually release will hopefully spark the fun back into the game, and we’ll hopefully see more PS3 gamers get back into the groove of things.

Skyrim Dragonborn And Other DLC Content Arriving On PlayStation Store In February

skyrim dragonborn dlc Skyrim Dragonborn And Other DLC Content Arriving On PlayStation Store In FebruaryThe Skyrim experience on the PS3 has been a poorer one compared to the Xbox 360 simply because it lags behind in terms of available DLCs, but all of the previous heartaches and broken promises will come to an end soon. Specifically, Sony has just announced that they will roll out all of Skyrim’s add-on content on the PlayStation Store from February onwards, where the 1.8 title update will also be released before Dragonborn is launched. Not only that, each add-on will be lighter on your wallets with a 50% discount during its launch week on PSN.

Other than Dragonborn, the other DLC made available will be Hearthfire and Dawnguard. At last, you can build your very own home and also opt to be a Vampire Lord, the possibilities are endless! I think that the gesture of offering a 50% discount on all of the other add-ons is a step in the right direction. After all, PS3 fans of the Skyrim series have waited long enough, and from our previous experience, some of them have even given up on ever seeing the other DLCs roll out.

Classic White PS3 Instant Game Collection Bundle

A few days ago, we heard of our neighbors living in the Great White North (that would be Canada just in case you were wondering) would be on the receiving end of the white colored PS3 from Sony, and it is comforting to know that folks living Stateside have not been overlooked. In fact, it has been announced that Sony will make available the Classic White PS3 Instant Game Collection Bundle in the US, where it will be accompanied by a 1-year membership to PlayStation Plus. This is definitely one of the more pleasant pieces of news to start off the relatively young year, don’t you think so?

At least this means that folks living in the US and Canada will be able to have access to the Sony PS3 in a color other than boring old black. When you throw in PlayStation Plus that has seen more than a 57% increase in memberships since June last year, you are more or less looking at the ultimate game bundle for just about any avid video game fan. In fact, last year saw PlayStation Plus members received over 50 free and 270 discounted PS3 games, in addition to over 90 add-ons for the PS3 and eight free PS Vita games. How’s that when it comes to value for your hard earned money, huh?

This Classic White PS3 Instant Game Collection Bundle will arrive in the US and Canada this coming January 27th, where it will cost you three Benjamins (that would be $299.99 if you want to be exact in your accounting). Inside the bundle, you will find the Classic White PS3 system that sports a 500GB hard disk drive inside, apart from the aforementioned one-year membership to PlayStation Plus. This gives you unlimited access to a regularly refreshed library of a dozen PS3 games alongside half a dozen games for the PS Vita, and not only that, new games will also be added each month.

Canada To Get White PS3 Slim

white ps3 canada Canada To Get White PS3 SlimThe Great White North (aka Canada) will be on the receiving end of a white PS3 Slim – or at least that is what we could figure out according to a listing on Best Buy. This latest bundle will thrown in an entire year of PS Plus subscription, and just when should you prime yourself to bring this bad boy home? Well, the white version of the 500GB PS3 Slim is touted to retail for $300 thereabouts, and will arrive at warehouse this coming January 27th, giving you three days to play and enjoy it before putting down the controller to read about BlackBerry 10 news.

Just what other countries have received the white PS3 Slim? Well, we do know that folks living in Japan, Europe and Australia were fortunate enough to have their soil graced with this model, while folks living in the US are unable to pick up an official version. The thing is, the white PS3 Slims in the Japanese, European and Australian market were capped at 320GB, so perhaps Sony intends to make a bigger splash in North America eventually. After all, everything is bigger in the US, don’t you think so? This is assuming it trickles its way down from Canada in due time, and hopefully not at glacier-like speeds.
