Dad wants smashed PS3 to scare his kids

No one said that parenting is an easy job, but this dad must have been at the end of his ropes after placing an ad in Craigslist for a smashed up PS3 console. The ad basically reads, “I am in need of a broken PS3, even jut the shell would work. My two sons are in need of a lesson, their mother and I are absolutely sick and tired of repeating ourselves to these boys and I want to make them believe that I broke their PS3 in hopes of them learning to clean up after themselves.”

The parent in question believes that some folks would think that this particular psychological tactic of his is just too soft, and those are the very same folks who advocated on how sparing the rod would spoil the child. Basically, he just wants to smash up an empty shell of a PS3 in front of them, while grounding them for an entire month. What do you think of this particular parenting tactic – is it a go, or a no go? Who knows, he might end up too frustrated that he will just smash up his kids’ PS3 after all. PS Store for PS3 revamped

Sony has recently announced that they are more than proud and happy to introduce a spanking new PlayStation Store specially for the PS3 console. The entire PlayStation Store’s interface is said to have been overhauled, boasting of a more streamlined look, and it will no doubt need to live up to expectations, hence sporting snappier response times in addition to a layout that is more hierarchical, resulting in fewer top-level categories than before. With the new revamp, you are able to enjoy extra features such as streaming trailers, improved search, and a new filter among others. Initial tests for the search were reported to be high on the satisfactory level, which is always a good thing.

The new PS Store update is thankfully mandatory, and good thing the entire shebang weighs in at a mere 26MB which should not take too long to download for most of us with modern day Internet connections. The next time you launch the PlayStation Store on your PS3, you will be prompted to install the update. As for folks using the PS Vita and PSP, the PlayStation Store on both platforms will remain the same.

Sony quietly gets PlayStation 3 certification in China, we hope for a few more Dynasty Warriors players

PS3 leads the Chinese workers, comrade

Ever since 2000, game consoles have effectively (if not very assertively) been banned in China. There’s already been signs of a warming attitude with official plans for the Nintendo 3DS XL coming this December, but Sony may have slipped out hints of a fuller thaw without anyone noticing until now. A Sina Weibo user just discovered that the 160GB and 320GB versions of the previous-generation PlayStation 3, the CECH-3012, passed through China Compulsory Certificate approval in July — an odd move when the console couldn’t actually go on sale in an official capacity in current conditions. Certification is still far from a guarantee that Sony will actually sell the PS3 in the country, most of all when it’s a slightly outdated model of a console line that’s edging ever nearer to a replacement. The government certainly hasn’t commented on what the regulatory clearance means. If it ultimately leads to more gamers in Chengdu or Shanghai, however, we’re all for it.

Sony PS3 4.31 update is optional

It does seem as though the Sony PS3 is ready for yet another system software update, where applying it will bump up the software version to v4.31 on your PS3. Right now, it does seem as though the purpose of the update remains a mystery, making it instead an optional one, so even if you prefer to remain stuck on v4.30, that is entirely all right.

The new Sony PS3 v4.31 update has already gone live, and it does not seem to ring in long awaited bells and whistles. In fact, a post on the PS3 community forums read, “I’m posting this message to inform you that there will be a minor firmware update (v.4.31) released on the evening of Monday, October 29th. There will not be PlayStation Network maintenance during this time; online play and access to apps will not be affected during the release of this update. This is not a mandatory update. However, we suggest you keep your systems updated with the latest firmware, as these updates further improve overall system stability and help provide you with the best online entertainment experience possible.”

Has anyone updated to v4.31, and how do you find it? I guess having your PS3 run in a more stable and improved manner is always a good thing, and as long as no new problems are introduced with an update installation, I am all for it.

PS3 hacked, LV0 decryption keys available

EuroGamer claims that the new PSN-enabled custom firmware which was introduced recently for hacked consoles has been followed up by publication of the Sony PS3′s LV0 decryption keys. Back in the day, the underground PS3 scene did see custom firmware to be a regular occurrence, but Sony did do their part in making sure that such security breaches have been relegated to the past, making it virtually impossible to hack the PS3 after that. Not until now, that is.

EuroGamer’s Richard Leadbetter explained, “The release of the new custom firmware – and the LV0 decryption keys in particular – poses serious issues. While Sony will almost certainly change the PSN passphrase once again in the upcoming 4.30 update, the reveal of the LV0 key basically means that any system update released by Sony going forward can be decrypted with little or no effort whatsoever.”

Chinese hacking group BlueDiskCFW highlighted this particular issue, and they do have plans to make money by selling the custom firmware. Of course, it has been disputed that the BlueDisk team did not make this discovery, but just want the publicity and perhaps saw an opportunity to make quick cash off the masses.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Now Shipping

I’ve been a gamer all my life going all the way back to the original Atari console when I was a kid. I go through spurts where I play mostly driving games, but recently I’ve been walking around the game sections of my local stores looking for a decent shooter. Sadly, I haven’t been able find a decent one but I may go back now and pick up Medal of Honor: Warfighter because it’s now available.

The game is available in North America right now and will be available in Europe on October 26. You can pick the game up now for the Xbox 360, PS3, or PC.
