PS4 Virtual Reality Headset Rumored To Be Unveiled At TGS

PS4 Virtual Reality Headset Rumored To Be Unveiled At TGS

Rumor has it that Sony might unveil a PS4 virtual reality headset at the Tokyo Games Show which takes place later this month. Apparently the company was going to make the announcement at Gamescom but they decided against it at the last minute, reason behind the decision is not known. According to one developer who has reportedly seen the headset, it looks much like Sony’s 3D HMZ headset which was unveiled back in January 2011, it was showcased at TGS last year.

The headset will reportedly work similarly to Oculus Rift VR. Sony is said to have demonstrated it internally with DriveClub, Evolution Studios’ new title for the PS4. Apparently the headset allows players to look around in the cockpit of a car. Another report suggests that Sony executives are pondering over the marketing aspects, they’re trying to decide whether to term the VR headset as an optional “add on” or an essential component of the PS4 that sets it apart from its main rival, the Xbox One. There are conflicting reports about the announcement, there’s one side that claims it will be unveiled at TGS, whereas the other says the headset won’t be unveiled until next year. Sony hasn’t commented on the rumor as yet.

PS4 And Vita Bundle Might Not Be Realized

PS4 And Vita Bundle Might Not Be RealizedSony’s PS4 is definitely one next generation console that has managed to drum up its fair share of attention in the past month or so, but here we are with word that Sony has no definite or confirmed plans to release the PS4 and PS Vita as a bundle. To be more specific, SCE UK boss Fergal Gara mentioned that there are no current plans of that sort to “put the two together in one box”, although he did not rule out the possibility to work alongside retailers “to put them together alongside each other as at least a great companion trade up sale.”

Gara continued, “That’s by no means out of the question, that we can offer the consumer a package including Vita and PS4, even round launch. Now that we have a date on the table, and now that we have reasonably clear visibility on volume, our conversations with retailers are far more focused on tangibles. These are the sort of details we need to get into now.”

I guess we will know more as the PS4 rolls out this coming November 15th in North America, while our friends in Europe will have to wait until November 29th. What we do know, and has been confirmed, however, is that the PS4 and PS Vita will feature cross-platform voice chat, and a certain Shuhei Yoshida did confirm over on Twitter that the PS4 will only be able to support a quartet of controllers simultaneously, unlike the Xbox One that doubles that amount of simultaneous controller support.

PS4 Navigational Voice Commands Through PlayStation Camera Confirmed

PS4 Navigational Voice Commands Through PlayStation Camera Confirmed

PlayStation 4 will support voice commands, Sony has confirmed. The feature will work through the console’s Eye camera peripheral. Sony hasn’t revealed any more details as yet apart from making the confirmation in a statement to Polygon. A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment said that the company can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition, adding that more details will be shared in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4.

Speculation about this feature started when a video clip of the company’s press conference at Gamestop Expo was posted online on YouTube. In the clip a slide is shown that lists “navigational voice commands” and “facial recognition” among the features of PlayStation Camera peripheral. Sony has formally made the confirmation, more details on how this feature actually works will follow soon. The PlayStation 4′s rival, Xbox One, comes with Kinect as standard, which adds voice recognition feature to Microsoft’s console. The feature is actually an integral part of the entire Xbox One experience. In North America, PlayStation 4 will release on November 15th for $399. Sony’s new console will be released in Europe on November 29th for €399. PlayStation Eye peripheral will be sold separately for $59 in North America and €49 in Europe.

Microsoft Believes Xbox One Is Worth $100 More Than The PS4

Microsoft Believes Xbox One Is Worth $100 More Than The PS4The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are very different consoles, not only in terms of games, but features as well, although one main difference would also be its price. The Xbox One is priced $100 more than the PlayStation 4 and to some gamers, the difference of $100 is a big deal and could be considered a deal-breaker, but Microsoft doesn’t seem to think so. In fact Microsoft is pretty confident about its Xbox One console and has stated that they believe the console is worth $100 more than the PS4.

Speaking the folks at GameSpot during PAX Prime, Microsoft’s Albert Penello was quoted as saying, “It’s up to us to prove that it’s worth $100 more. I think it is.” Penello went on to state the different reasons why the Xbox One was the better system, ending with, “I just believe that we’re going to have a better system.” Penello also did not seem to believe that the difference of $100 would be considered a “deal-killer” for gamers, but what do you guys think? With games costing a fair amount of money as it is, we’re sure the $100 saved could be used towards buying more games, right? Let us know in the comments below!

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime on the Xbox One and PS4’s launch lineups: ‘meh’

Nintendo's Reggie FilsAime on the Xbox One and PS4's launch lineups 'meh'

With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 due to hit shelves across the world soon, it’s not exactly surprising to hear the competition openly sound off on the incoming consoles. Especially when it’s someone as outspoken as Nintendo of America’s COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “It’s all about the games. The competitive systems have announced their launch lineups. I’m allowed to say ‘meh,” Fils-Aime said in an interview with IGN. The Nintendo head added that he feels confident in the Wii U’s title lineup, noting, “We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong. In addition to great titles like Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, I feel very good about our lineup, and I feel very good about the value proposition we’re putting out there for the consumer.”

Both the Xbox One and PS4 will have more than 20 titles available at launch, which is on par with what the Wii U’s launch was back in November of last year. The only problem is Nintendo’s flagship has been seeing less and less support from third-party developers, making the console a harder sell for gamers worldwide. Perhaps, Nintendo’s hoping to turn the tide with its recent announcement that the Wii U’s going to be a little cheaper starting September 21st, though only time will tell how successful that strategy turns out to be.

    GameStop’s next-gen digital strategy doesn’t exist, because it doesn’t need to… yet

GameStop has no clear digital strategy, plans to take a 'wait and see' approach to the nextgen

“You’re asking me to… predict the future. I’m supposed to plan for the future.” That’s the non-answer GameStop president Tony Bartel spit out when I prodded him about the company’s digital strategy here at its annual consumer-facing EXPO in Las Vegas. And it’s clearly a touchy subject. It’s not that Bartel refuses to acknowledge and embrace a download-only world — indeed, he believes “things are going to go [fully] digital” — but in his own estimation, that shift isn’t tied to the next-gen of consoles. For a retailer built upon the buy/sell/trade business model for videogames and hardware, GameStop doesn’t appear to have a well-laid digital strategy in the works, nor does it necessarily need to at the moment. With both Sony and Microsoft committing to a friendly used disc-based games policy for their respective black boxes, GameStop’s been given a temporary buffer from the inevitable, allowing it additional time to feel out the digital way forward with a serendipitous mobile crutch.
