All three sizes of Google’s hardware family are now available for purchase in both the US and Canada. Joining a 3G-flavored Nexus 7, the LG-made Nexus 4 starts at $299 for 8GB, Samsung’s Nexus 10 rings in at $399 for 16GB. And what do you get for that kind of money? A whole lot; the new Nexus phone houses Android 4.2, Snapdragon S4 Pro and rich 4.7-inch 1,280 x 768 display. Meanwhile the ten-inch Nexus tablet packs the same fresh software, an incredible 2,560 x 1,600 resolution screen and a quad dual-core 1.7 GHz processor, so a whole lot of bang for several hundred of bucks. Hit up Google Play below and pick your screen and storage size.
Update: And like that, it appears the 16GB both models of the Nexus 4 are sold out. Already.

Unless you’ve been hunkered in a cave for the past few weeks, you’ve probably heard about that new iPad mini thing. Many of you will also be aware it goes on sale this very day — well, the WiFi-only version anyway, starting at $329 for the 16GB variant. Apple’s taking its first steps into an uncharted territory, launching a 7.9-inch slate that might tempt customers who weren’t keen on the 9.7-inch offering we’re all familiar with. It’s coming a little late to smaller-tablet game, but if history tells us anything, it’s that people go crazy for Apple products. That being said, many may have already invested in tablets of a similar size when the iPad mini just wasn’t an option, so might be less inclined to grab one now. Whether it’ll have the staggering uptake of Apple products that preceded it remains to be seen, but we’d love to hear your thoughts on it, including if you plan to buy one or not, in the poll and comments below.

Your chance to shout voice commands at Engadget is coming today, as Microsoft is rolling out its Fall Dashboard update to the Xbox 360 today, headlined by the inclusion of Internet Explorer. The update also adds a version of its popular “pinning” functionality, a variety of specialized sports apps (NBA, NHL, and Monday Night Football from ESPN), the ability to recommend and rate content, and some UI tweaks across all of the 360 Dashboard’s categories. Xbox Music is also in there, as is SmartGlass support, though the latter won’t have any functionality until October 26, according to Microsoft’s Major Nelson. The update may not come immediately, as it’s being rolled out gradually across various regions. 3 million folks get in this week, while others may not see it until a week or two from now, says Microsoft. We’ve got a full hands-on right here for you to read in the meantime, of course.

Those who have been keeping a close eye on Google’s 7-inch, Jelly Bean-loaded Nexus 7 would know that the company kindly includes 25 bucks worth of Play credit with any purchase of said tablet. Unfortunately, as the famed cliché would tell us, all good things must come to an end — and, well, such is the case with this neat promotion, which will expire on Sunday, September 30th. Here’s the good news, however: there’s still a relatively good amount of time for folks interested to get it on the Google Play deal, so now would be the perfect moment to snag what some are calling the best $200 tablet — and who knows, this might even lead to a post-order Gangnam Style celebration of your own.

If you’re sporting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean then one of its most notable features just got better, as an update for the Google Search update is enhancing Google Now (still getting adjusted? check the guide book for a list of commands) functionality in a few key ways. The new version brings public alerts to your Now page, with emergency messages like storm warnings or earthquake alerts, so if you’re in range of Hurricane Isaac, it may be worth grabbing sooner rather than later. A more trivial change lets sports fans manually select their favorite teams from 140 pro soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey clubs — we tried to find our college favorites and were denied, for now. While trying to automatically decipher our preferred squads from searches is nice, it might not be practical when we’re just looking up information on our fantasy football players so this should be a help.
It has also added support for movie listings as seen above. Search for a flick that’s in theaters and you will not only receive relevant information, but also when and where it’s playing in your area. If that’s not enough, it can be set to pop up on your “movie days” or when you just happen to be loitering outside a theater. Finally, in a move that should please many prospective Galaxy Note II owners it is ready to work in Korea — grab the new version of the app at the link below.
