Your digital game library will be accessible from any PlayStation 4, says Sony

Your digital game library will be accessible from any PlayStation 4, says Sony

The digital games you buy on your PlayStation 4 will apparently travel with you, virtually, when you move from console to console. Sony R&D senior team leader Neil Brown detailed as much at Develop today. “You can visit your friend’s house you can log into your account and play any game from your digital library,” he said. Paired with the console’s “Play As You Download” functionality, Brown promised that users will be able to instantly jump into their full library of digital games from any PS4 after signing in with their PSN ID. “This makes a digital library a practical option in the real world,” he added.

PlayStation 4 games are planned for digital launch alongside physical, thus making an all-digital game library a more possible goal. Should you purchase a physical copy, you can take the Blu-ray with you from console to console; the game will automatically install on the console’s HDD, though you’ll still need its disc in the tray for the game to play.

Sony adds Indie Games category to PSN, brings Hotline Miami to the Vita (video)

Sony adds PS Vita Indie Games category to PSN

As much as we’d like to talk about Sony’s increasing hospitality toward independent developers, we’re a little too anxious. You see, the company has just added an indie games channel to its handheld console, with Hotline Miami as the flagship title. Users will also be able to grab 53 other titles, like Thomas Was Alone, Sound Shapes and Limbo, but we’re too busy with Hotline Miami to pay attention right now. Sony is also promising that we’ll see Spelunky, Terraria and Hohokum in the next few months, which’ll keep you entertained when you’ve finished, you know, Hotline Miami. If you’d like to catch a trailer showcasing all the new games, head on past the break.

PS4 video reveals UI for sharing gameplay videos, multitasking, making friends

PS4 video shows off UI for sharing gameplay videos, multitasking, making friends

By now, most people ought to have dismissed the old stereotype that the male is the calm, rational opposite of the hysterical female. If anything, it’s the other way round, which is why the short promo video shown right at the end of Sony’s E3 press conference was kind of refreshing. It was also pretty useful, because even if the software it shows isn’t final, it reveals how the PS4 user interface is likely to handle things like chat, gameplay video sharing and multitasking. Read on for a cut-down version of the fast-paced clip and our probing evaluation of what it says about PS4 gaming and human behavior.

PlayStation Plus adds monthly subscription option for $10, discounts Music Unlimited to $42

PlayStation Plus adds monthly subscription option for $10, discounts Music Unlimited to $42

PlayStation Plus offers do come around every now and then, but Sony has just announced a more permanent addition to the service: the option of a $10 (or 7 euro) monthly membership to supplement the regular 90-day and annual subscriptions. The lack of commitment comes at quite a price, given that the longer contracts bring the the effective monthly cost down to $6 and $4 respectively, but it may still make sense for flighty types. Anyway, once you’re in, you’ll find a secondary, time-limited offer: an annual Music Unlimited Premium subscription for $42 (42 euros), which is okay, but nowhere near the discount offered in 2012. Those who remain outside of Sony’s inner circle can also temporarily get 12 months of Music Unlimited for $60, or half of the usual cost. Lastly, a few more E3 crumbs: the PlayStation Network is now officially called “PSN”, which is pretty much what we called it anyway, and PlayStation Plus also gets a new logo (shown after the break, not that it’s especially shocking.), reflecting reflect its heightened status in the PS4 era

Sony to bring original programming to PS4 and PSN

Sony to bring original programming to PS4 and PSN

With its much anticipated PS4 console reveal out of the way, Sony brought out Entertainment head Michael Lynton to talk media services for the platform. When the PS4 launches later this year, gamers will be privy to exclusive, original programming crafted specifically for PSN and made by Sony’s studios. No further details were given on just what the company has in store nor what the pricing model would be (free vs paid?). But like Microsft, Sony’s looking to maximize on its living room position and, of course, that familiar buzz word: corporate synergy.

Star Wars Pinball Launches As Standalone Title On PSN Next Week

Star Wars Pinball Launches As Standalone Title On PSN Next WeekHmmm, avid gamers who are well versed with game releases on the PlayStation Network (PSN) would be able to tell you that Star Wars Pinball has already launched there, and to hear that it is launching again might not make too much sense. Well, the thing is, Star Wars Pinball is launching again over on PSN, albeit as a standalone title this time around. Originally, the first Star Wars Pinball pack was rolled out in February earlier this year for Zen Pinball 2 on the PS3 and PS Vita platforms, and that pack came with Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

This time around, it would arrive with additional features, where a special standalone version of the game is said to arrive with some really fun community features, in addition to being fully branded Star Wars. Those who have already purchased the tables in Zen Pinball 2 are entitled to download Star Wars Pinball without any extra charge, which is a good deal, no? This would allow you to unlock the tables in Zen Pinball 2 and in Star Wars Pinball in one fell swoop of a purchase, and it is good to know that both games are Cross Buy entitled with Vita.

Ubisoft Announces Flashback Remake For XBLA, PSN

Ubisoft isn’t a stranger to bringing classic video games series to the modern as they have taken franchises like Prince of Persia to new heights, even remaking the classic game for a number of platforms. It looks like they’re aiming their sights at another classic game to receive a remake, Delphine Software’s Flashback.

Ubisoft’s remake of Flashback is currently in development by VectroCell to be released on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network and will be powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine. VectroCell, if you recall, was the development studio behind horror game Amy. The game will be an HD remastering of the original game which will be completely in 3D.

Flashback’s story will largely remain unchanged as you’ll play Conrad B. Hart as he fights to save humanity from an invasion of alien Morphs whose goal is to enslave mankind. Not only will Conrad be tasked with saving the world once again, but his girlfriend as well, who we hope is making Steak-ums tonight.

Black Rock Shooter: The Game Releasing On PSN On April 24

As a regular anime watcher, you don’t know how upsetting it is to know shows that I thoroughly enjoyed have video games that are either based on the show or continue its story only available in Japan. I could import them, but seeing how I can’t read a lick of Japanese, it could be rather difficult to do so. That’s why when I heard not only would the U.S. be getting a game based on a popular anime series, but also one of my favorites as well, then I knew I had to write about it.

NIS America published the first trailer for Black Rock Shooter: The Game over the weekend which will be an RPG based on the Black Rock Shooter franchise which stars a mysterious girl with a glowing blue eye who needs to save the world. The game was originally released in Japan back in August 2011, which probably explains why it’ll be available for the PSP when it’s released in the U.S. on April 24. For you PS Vita owners, the game will also be made available on the PlayStation Network for your downloading needs.
