Guy Builds Amazing Gremlins Puppet

Gremlins was one of my all-time favorite childhood movies. It featured just the right proportion of slapstick humor, gore and action for a teenage boy. In tribute to this classic popcorn flick, one talented artist has created a fully-functional puppet version of Stripe, one of the eponymous gremlins.

RPF contributor Batgremlin built this DIY gremlin using cast flexible foam, and built mechanical moving arms with articulating fingers, and even moving eyeballs for the little green dude. Check him out in action in the video below – my favorite part is when the puppeteers are revealed against the greenscreen.

Batgremlin doesn’t share too many details on how he built it, but I’m betting he made a Gizmo puppet first, then fed it after midnight.

Puppet Capaldi: Doctor Who Puppet

We have a long wait ahead of us before we can watch the new season of Doctor Who, which is Peter Capaldi’s first season. What do you do while you wait? Well, to pass the time, one fan has created her own 12th Doctor puppet.

Alisa Stern has a web series starring Doctor Who puppets that you can watch right now. She has made puppets for each Doctor since Christopher Eccleston, which she then uses for stop-motion animated shorts. Nothing starring the Capaldi puppet just yet, but I’m sure we will see him in action soon.

She nailed the new Doctor’s look. Awesome. I just hope the real Capaldi isn’t a puppet to Steve Moffat’s ego like Matt Smith was.

Knit Sarlacc Pit Hand Puppet: Where’s Boba Felt?

Hand puppets are fun for kids, but these knitted toys really don’t quite hold the appeal today that they had in say, the 1500′s. So, how do you jazz up hand puppets so that people actually want to play with them today? Star Wars of course. More specifically, a Sarlacc pit.

Everyone wants to stick their hand inside a pit with a giant freaky monster living inside of it. Go ahead, put it on your hand and chomp down that Boba Fett figure. While you’re at it, go for young Anakin, and really get Jar Jar good. And Sarlacc pits love Ewoks too!

The knit Sarlacc pit hand puppet was made by pandacatification and unlike the real thing, it won’t need a thousand years to digest it’s victims. Take it to the beach and bury it, surprising your friends.

Nendo Rootote Bag: For Puppet Shows on the Go

Some multi-purpose things have a lot of alternate uses, and pretty good ones, too, like the shopping bag that doubles as a helmet. Then there’s Nendo’s Rootote Bag, which has a more novel second use, apart from being a bag, it’s also a puppet show.

These bags with puppets, with puppets like kangaroos, bears, humans, and dinosaurs, are a concept design by Oki Sato. Unexpectedly, there are many uses that an adult might have with an integrated puppet. For one, it’s instant entertainment for the kids and will keep them quiet, at least for a little while.

Another use for it, although pretty unconventional, is as a glove–so when you spot something you’d rather not touch, well, you can just stick your hand in the puppet and use it as you would a glove (but make sure to wash it thoroughly afterwards.)
