Qbeak Prototype Unveiled

qbeak Qbeak Prototype UnveiledThe Qbeak is an electric city vehicle that is being worked upon by Denmark-based ECOmove, and this time around, it is said that the third prototype of the vehicle is under development, with insider information claiming that the Qbeak is “very close” to its finished version. Compared to its predecessors, the existing prototype is said to be lighter than ever before, and this can only translate to one thing – the Qbeak’s single-charge range would have been increased. ECOMove is currently sounding the clarion call to explore potential partnerships with automobile component makers, touting that the final version will be ready by the time 2014 rolls around.

ECOmove began work on the first Qbeak prototype in 2009, where it also picked up the ‘European Electric Vehicles Early Stage Investment Opportunity Award’ from UK-based Frost & Sullivan in March. We do hope that by the time 2014 rolls around, the Qbeak would be even more advanced than where it is today, so much so that it would end up as the definition of an electric vehicle that is easy on the wallet and yet works great.

ECOmove pegs QBEAK EV for 2012 launch

We may be comfortable in our four-door electric hatchbacks and screaming fast no-emission roadsters, but Danish automotive outfit ECOmove has more conservative aspirations: the QBEAK. This dainty driver eschews standard vehicle design to create a compact, customizable package. “We have chosen to use alternative light weight materials, “explains ECOmove CEO Mogens Løkke. “The QBEAK is equipped with a range of sustainable, competitive features such as in-wheel motors, an unique chassis platform with room for a flexible battery modules and a communication system based on a smartphone.” Details on smartphone compatibility, price and specific availability are still scarce, but the firm says we can expect to see the tiny EV puttering down the boulevard later this year. Can’t wait? Head on past the break for a quirky preview video.

QBEAK electric car has a 500-mile range [Concept]

Although electric cars are becoming more and more popular these days, one challenge remains – beating gasoline-powered cars in terms of mileage. But the QBEAK electric car is trying to change all that. The QBEAK electric car, currently in its conceptual phase, can reportedly run 500 miles on a single battery charge – even better than the Chevrolet Volt hybrid that can cover 375 miles on a single charge. QBEAK will utilize bio-methanol to improve its battery life.

According to its designers, bio-methanol is better than gasoline or diesel because it can produce less carbon dioxide. Mogens Lokke, the CEO of ECOmove, said that the car will be outfitted with six battery modules inside its chassis instead of using a conventional fixed battery. The designers are planning to release a battery-powered model later this year. Meanwhile, a battery/ fuel model is also expected to arrive next year. The QBEAK car will sport in-wheel electric motors to deliver speeds up to 120kph.
