Thumb Twiddling Machine Helps Your Fingers Do the Twiddling

Video and interactive artist Eran Amir created this silly contraption which does one thing and one thing only – it helps you twiddle your thumbs. Clearly, he did this because if you are truly so bored that you are twiddling your thumbs, you probably won’t have the patience to flex your own muscles to make it happen either.

Built from a couple of motors and a simple wood frame, the user places their fat fingers into the thumbrings, switches it on, and the rest is self-explanatory:

I wonder what would happen if you tried to twiddle your index fingers with it.

Balloon Animal AT-ATs: Hoth Air

Look out kid! You’re being attacked by a couple of Imperial Walkers! These impressive balloon animal AT-ATs were created by Balloon Guy Entertainment, who previously blew up a Balloon Bag End from The Hobbit.

What’s that you say? You don’t have a tow cable to take them down? That’s okay, kid, all you need is a pin.

Wood Macintosh: The Lumber for the Rest of Us

Despite having a tiny black and white screen and not even a hard drive in its first incarnation, the original Macintosh was one of the most transformative and iconic computers of all time. I’ve always wanted to have one on display in my office, but when I stumbled on this wooden version, I’d much rather have this on my bookshelf.

This wooden Macintosh sculpture was created by artist Lee Stoetzel a dog’s age ago back in 2007, and it’s just as timeless as the computer on which it’s based. It’s even got a wooden mouse and matching keyboard.

The only thing better would be if it had a slot that you could slide an iPad into and a functional wooden Bluetooth keyboard – both of which I’m sure could be done. Oh, and even better than that would be if Lee made one for me.

Be sure to check out Stoetzel’s other incredible wood creations, which include a VW bus.

The World’s Most Confused Handheld Gaming System

Oh, China. You’re such a great nation, but sometimes we’ve got to call you on your ridiculous reinterpretations of trademarked and copyrighted works from other parts of the world. This handheld gaming console is one such example.

This ridiculously confused PVP Station Light 3000 handheld co-opts imagery from Sony, Nintendo, Rovio and Naughty Dog all in one single package. And having played some of these craptacular systems over the years, I’m going to bet it can’t even play most of the games referenced on its box. Or if it can, it does it very badly.

Tri-Pizza: Wisdom, Courage, Pepperoni

Hundreds of years ago, three golden Italian bakers bestowed the Tri-Pizza upon us. This heavenly dish grants anyone who is wise, powerful and brave enough to overcome his laziness for 15 seconds and call a hotline with boundless joy. Only the Prothean Bacon can exceed the Tri-Pizza’s potency. Society6 member Monstruonauta honors this sacred and tasty relic with an illustration.

Mmmmm. You can get the Tri-Pizza as a print or as a graphic on t-shirts, hoodies, iPhone cases and more on Society6.

iPhone 5/5S Case Made from Real Chocolate: Chocolate Covered Apple

You’ve probably seen iPhone cases shaped like chocolate bars. These on the other hand, are chocolate bars shaped like an iPhone case.

They are made by two Portland-based companies. Woodblock Chocolate supplied the bars of dark chocolate and iPhone and iPad accessory maker Grove machined the bars into cases. I know the Internet wants to get its hands on anything absurd, but the two companies have more sense than that and won’t be selling the tasty, but highly impractical cases.

Chainmaille Necktie: for Knights of the Cubic Cubicle

Defend yourself from sword strikes and shark bites in the office with Thinkgeek’s Chainmaille Mail Necktie. It’s made of anodized aluminum, so I guess it will offer some sort of protection from corporate get-togethers.

The funny thing is, it’s the necktie part that isn’t genuine. I think it’s more of a choker with a huge pendant.

Ride to ThinkGeek and get the Chainmaille Necktie for $30 (USD). I’ll wait for the plate necktie.

Norway Cold Snap Freezes Fish in Their Tracks

It’s gotten ridiculously frigid here in Chicago, what with the recent Polar Vortex and colder than normal winter. But I’ve never seen anything like this scene, recently captured in Norway:

Apparently, when harsh winds caused temperatures over a Norwegian bay to drop to sub-freezing temperatures, the fish swimming close to the surface were flash frozen. While the air temperature of -7.8°C (~18°F) seems balmy by Chicago standards, it was enough to put the instant deep-freeze on the fish.

According to locals, the water and fish remain frozen, and the birds and whales will have a field day when the thaw eventually comes.

Nintendo Controller Promise Ring: Controller Commitment

With this ring I thee promise to play on no other console, no matter how next gen she is or how stacked she is in the spec department. I also promise to never blow on a cartridge that came out of another console’s port. In short, I do.

The “Intendo” ring was created by Paul Michael Designs and it is an amazingly beautiful design that Nintendo fans will fall in love with. Look at that gold D-Pad with gemstone buttons.

This is truly the One Ring.

Pokémon Size Poster: ALL HAIL WAILORD

One of the best things about Pokémon X & Y are the 3D models of the creatures. However the models are not to scale, despite the Pokédex clearly stating the height and weight of most Pokémon. Why? Because the disparity between their sizes is so severe. If they were made to scale, either some Pokémon would be practically invisible or, well, Wailord:

That image is the latest version of deviantART member DOTBstudios’ Pokémon size comparison poster. It contains all known Pokémon so far – including their Mega Evolutions if any – but it still has a number of mistakes. DOTBstudios will release a high resolution version of the image as well as sell a print of the poster as soon as he irons the errors out.
