Girl Dressed as Doctor Who Takes on Giant Balloon Cthulhu

The headline pretty much says it all.

All I can say is thank God she’s got more than a sonic screwdriver.

Balloon Cthulhu was made by Tim Thurmond, aka The Balloon Sculptor. Check out the construction of this epic beast in the video clip below:

Adventure Time Jake Engagement Ring: Gold is for Suckers! Just Wear My Gut!

Artist and writer Josh Adams caused a mathemagical wave of retweets when he posted his fiancé’s Jake the Dog engagement ring. I hope it’s actually Jake.

Konami Code Tattoo: I Guess He Has 30 Arms Now

Fashionably Geek reader Kevin Pacheco had Konami’s transcendent cheat code tattooed on his arm.

Apparently the images of the buttons and directional pads are the same size as the ones on the NES controller.

I wonder what kind of cheat codes we’ll have in the future, when games run on virtual reality headsets and gesture-based controllers.

Lunar Landing Cake: That’s One Small Step for Chocolate, One Giant Leap for Buttercream

We’ve already seen an intricate cake that replicates Jupiter, but here’s a space-inspired cake that lands a little closer to home. This lunar landing cake needs to fly off of its orbit around Earth and crash land on my dinner table.

This Moon cake was made a couple of years ago by Deborah over at It’s a piece of cake for her son’s 10th birthday. Lucky kid. The cake does a great job simulating the cratered surface of the natural satellite, and has a couple of little astronauts there ready to plant the American flag and to collect some buttercream frosting samples. Unlike our actual moon, this one is filled with chocolate fudge cake with white chocolate chips. I consider that a major improvement over rock.

So much for my low carb diet. I’m running out to buy a cake tonight.

This Walnut Looks Like Chewbacca

As tough as Wookiees are, even they have trouble cracking walnuts. Walnuts are tough. The toughest walnut ever? That would be this Chewbacca walnut, presumably created by midichlorians. Wookiee nuts have been known to rip the arms off of those who try to open them.

That’s right, I said Wookiee nuts and I refuse to make the obvious joke. This happy and cartoony looking Chewbacca was found in Ripplin’s backyard, where he has a huge black walnut tree that channels the force and make prophesy come true.

I just know that if you plant this in the ground, a Wookiee tree will grow. Because I believe in that kind of magic.

Game of Thrones Balloon Sculpture: A Pin is Coming

Entertainer Phileas Flash made this gloomy balloon sculpture of Ned Stark sitting on the Iron Throne. I think it’s based on this poster from the first season of Game of Thrones. A series so heartwrenching it even makes balloon sculptures a sad sight. We get it George! Nice guys finish last. We get it.

A balloon sculpture of Joffrey would have been more appropriate.

Life-sized Mario Statue: Will It Shrink if You Hit It?

This statue of Mario must have been fed a Super Mushroom, because he’s big enough to run and jump around in our world. According to its seller, the statue is 150 cm. or about 5 ft. tall. I’m not sure if that’s Mario’s official height, but it seems about right.

You can get the statue from Amazon Japan for ¥ 285,000 (~$2,900 USD). If you’re not a Mario fan, the seller also has other life-sized statues, including one of Spider-Man, Mazinger Z and Tetsujin 28 aka Gigantor.

LEGO Sharknado: Enough Said!

LEGO master Iain Heath rides the gigantic Internet wave carved by SyFy’s too bad to be fake Z-movie. Really though, concepts like that should only come from a child’s doodles and never go beyond this level. A LEGO toy. Perhaps a web comic. Maybe an animated short. It could work as an online series. Oooor…

Yeaaaah no. This is enough for me.

1up Mushroom Pizza Rolls: 1up My Stomach

Don’t you sometimes wish that you could just earn extra lives in real life, just like in video games? While there’s not yet a way to do that, you can still eat some tasty 1up mushrooms, thanks to our geeky food pal Chris-Rachael Oseland.

1 up mushroom pizza rolls

These 1up mushrooms aren’t just fungi from a can. Nope, they’re delicious pizza puffs made from biscuit dough and filled with pepperoni, mozzarella, onions and mushrooms. Yes, that’s right. Mushroomception. That stuff on top? Pesto, and a little green food coloring. Yum, green. It’s also got edible ball bearings for the eyes. Yum, ball bearings.
