R2-D2 Virtual Keyboard

R2 D2 Virtual KeyboardYet another must have for the Star Wars collector. Virtual keyboards have been around in some form for years, but This R2-D2 virtual keyboard projector makes all others look pretty boring.

He will make you feel like you have your very own R2-D2 droid at home. He beeps when you power on/off, as you type and sounds just like the real thing. This little guy can control either your mobile device or your personal computer through a Bluetooth 3.0 connection.

The downside to this; the price. He will run you about $330 over at Run A Town. We think that is a bit of a stretch considering non-Star Wars projectors are about 1/2 of that.

Star Wars Gets the Street Art Treatment

Animated character designer Phil Postma created this series of imaginary Star Wars action figures cards after he saw an image of an R2-D2 action figure that looked like a tiny spray can.

I love the graffiti art style of the images, and think it would be awesome if they actually made a Star Wars animated series with this look.

The F-35 has a friendly R2-D2 on board connected to an evil HAL 9000

DefenseTech has a good summary of a recent 60 Minutes segment on the F-35, America’s most expensive combat airplane yet. The Pentagon talks about how it uses "Star Wars-level technology." The pilots, however, aren’t so enthusiastic.

Life-sized White Chocolate R2-D2 Is the Ultimate Gastro-mech Droid

This R2-D2 replica was created by their Pastry Chef Fernando Arreola and was inspired by the Star Wars Exposition at the Tech Museum across the Street. The Chef used 150lbs. of White Chocolate Fondant to create this tasty gastro-mech delight.

The scarf is a nice touch and I love all of the details. I would just need a restraining bolt to keep me from eating it all up. They did a fantastic job on this one.

R2-D2 Christmas Wreath: Astromech the Halls

Your Star Wars themed Christmas just got a new piece of decor. Check out Amy Radcliffe’s R2-D2 wreath. It’s the wreath those impressionable Stormtroopers have been looking for.

The colors match the droid and are nice and metallic. The red balls at the top are a nice touch too since they match R2′s red indicator light. And of course you have to have an R2-D2 figure at the bottom. Awesome job, Amy. But this will attract those pesky Jawas. Set out some cookies for them.

You could make one of these yourselves using Amy’s step-by-step instructions. After all, it’s not enough to watch the Star Wars Holiday Special. A true fan must live the holiday special.

RC Inflatable R2-D2 is far lighter than the real thing

inflatable-r2d2R2-D2, the most famous astromech droid in the world of Star Wars, has more or less saved the Rebel Alliance one time too many, and is a beloved character for many. This hunk of metal is far more intelligent than the verbose C3-PO, and we are quite sure that it is made out of extremely dense metal. Well, with the $79.95 RC Inflatable R2-D2, you can be quite sure that it will live up to its reputation by coming in a lightweight and inflatable body, all without sacrificing on its maneuverability as a genuine astromech droid.

In order to inflate this variant of R2-D2, we are sad to say that it is not smart enough to do so itself, but rather, you will have to manually perform the inflation process using the included foot pump. When fully inflated, the R2-D2 would stand at an impressive 26″ in height, sporting drive units underneath which will allow him to perform zippy 360-degree spins, full forward, back, and turning. Thanks to its inflatable body, it will come with an extremely low center of gravity, letting him remain upright even when descending down the stairs. R2-D2 is also able to right himself should he tip, whenever he attempts a flip off a ramp. Sporting a 25-foot range, both he and the remote are powered by one 9-volt and a quartet of AA batteries.

R2-D2 Car Charger: A Droid with the Power of the Force

Every pilot needs a faithful companion. Even if you’re just driving a 1990 Geo Metro, it’s good to have a personal droid on board, just in case you get into trouble. R2-D2 is up to the challenge – plus he’ll charge your gadgets while he keeps you company.

This portable R2-D2 USB charger sits in your cup holder, and plugs into your car’s 12 volt outlet to charge up two smartphones or tablets at the same time, thanks to a pair of 2.1 amp USB ports.

But like any good maintenance droid, this R2 unit doesn’t just sit there, no. When you start to juice up your gadgets, his dome turns, lights up and he lets forth a series of beeps and bleeps. Now if only we had 3PO around to translate for us.

This is most definitely the droid you were looking for. Head on over to ThinkGeek right now, and plunk down your $49.99 (USD) if you want one in time for the holidays.
