Your dream of cruising around your local galaxy with your feisty astromech droid by your side simply isn’t going to happen in your lifetime. It will be years before robots can even pick up a wrench and remove a bolt by themselves. But ThinkGeek’s got the next best thing. It won’t fix your warp drive, but perched in your cup holder this tiny version of R2-D2 will keep your phones and tablets charged.
Despite what it says on its front, this really is the chair that I am looking for. When you spend all day piloting an X-Wing fighter, you get used to having an Astromech droid at your back, so those off-duty hours can feel a bit lonely. This chair solves that problem by putting an R2 unit on your back once again.
Paul Ryan of Xtinct 3D Design in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, made this chair out of CNC-cut cedar wood and it looks lovely. Paul previously made a Stormtrooper version, which is cool, but I prefer R2. I would totally sit on this on my porch if I had a cabin on Endor.

Which is the most useful droid around in the Star Wars universe? Most folks would automatically vote for R2-D2, as that is one astromech droid who has saved the Rebel Alliance many times over. We have seen R2-D2 arrive in the form of a timepiece before, but this time around, it comes in a far more advanced form factor. The $249.95 R2-D2 Wristwatch happens to be an official Star Wars collector’s watch, where it bears the hallmark colors and design motifs of the most popular droid in the galaxy.
Heck, this wristwatch even comes with Artoo’s iconic optical lenses, where it will be able to let you know of the time by pointing a red-tipped hand to the hour on an outer dial. Apart from that, there is also a yellow-tipped hand that counts off the minutes on an inner dial. The watch’s bezel itself will be able to turn by hand in order to mimic the spinning of the droid’s dome, all the while making a winding sound. Accurate Japanese quartz movement ensures that the time is kept properly, while the stainless steel case comes across in a splash resistant form factor. Each purchase will also arrive in a collector’s box that includes a numbered certificate of authenticity, which means that this is an officially licensed product by LucasFilm.

This R2-D2 bank is your new astromech savings and loan unit. R2 will help you save your money. Plus, he’ll talk your ear off each time you drop in some coins with his usual bleeps and whirrs – which in this case translates into, “You are one step closer to affording that new life-sized Stormtrooper toy, Master”.
As far as I’m concerned, this little droid beats any federal stimulus package. He measures 7 1/2″ high x 5 1/10″ wide x 4″ deep, and uses 3 LR44 batteries, which are included so you don’t have to spend any of your hard-earned change to get him beeping.
The sound quality seems pretty much on the money. The R2-D2 bank will cost you $21.99(USD) from ThinkGeek. Think of it as a long term investment as R2 will help you save way more than that. Is there anything this droid can’t do? 3PO seems so useless. You never hear about him helping anyone, unless they need some language translated or a lesson in etiquette.
Pimp2-D2 Action Figure: Mech Daddy
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you’re going to the New York Comic Con with a kid, stay away from Booth 208. Otherwise you’ll have to explain why there’s a small batch of gold-domed R2-D2 action figures each rocking a purple hat, a cape and a cane. Because this isn’t a Count Dracula costume.
This robotic uh, solicitor is the work of Jason Chalker aka Manly Art. He also made a poster featuring his scandalous creation:
You can get the poster from Jason’s online shop (his other artworks are NSFW) for $20 (USD). As I said the action figure will only be sold at the New York Comic Con and will go for $50 each.

Ground meat. It’s what’s for dinner. It’s not only tasty, but also highly sculptable. Is that a word? Well, it is now. Just look at that MEAT2-D2, there;s a Death Star and a TIE Fighter too. I hope it’s low in fat. Not because of any diet that I’m on, but because I want to cook this stuff and not have it shrink to like 2-inches-tall.
These amusing meat sculptures come from Epic Grinds who creates movie and video game sculptures out of meat. Yes, that’s a thing. So…meet this meat. Do you like each other? Good. Now eat!
Be sure to check out Epic Grinds’ other meat sculptures. There are Metroid and Pokémon meats among others. I choose to eat you, Pikachu!

I always knew that C-3PO was easily broken. I mean he is all prissy and fidgety and worrying all of the time, but I never figured that R2 would be the more fragile of the pair. This R2-D2 glass sculpture looks like it will break just by you looking at it.
He is awesome, but sooooo delicate. Even the Jawas would stay away from this one. There is very little info about it, but this is an impressive bit of geek art constructed from a very fragile material.
For some reason (maybe because I am missing Breaking Bad already) I want to see Walt and Jesse build a blue meth version.

Astromech droids are like GPS navigation systems for X-Wing pilots. Plus they can help to fix your ship on the fly and just keep you company. They are great to have docked into your hull. If only we had Astromech droids for our cars. Here is a way to at least make it look like you do.
This R2-D2 astromech droid graphic is easy to install on your car and sticks to virtually all surfaces, although it looks best on the trunk of your vehicle – not on the hood. It includes R2-D2, an optional arm extension, a blast mark to reveal the open wiring of your ship, a control panel, and of course the Star Wars logo.
Yes, it would be better as a 3-dimensional object, but it is still pretty cool. It will make you feel like Luke, with R2 keeping you company on the back of your car.
Star Wars R2-D2 Interactive Money Bank ensures you have some ‘circus money’ during those rainy days
Posted in: Today's ChiliSince young, I have always been told to save up for a rainy day, and not to spend frivolously. There is much wisdom in such sagely advice, but once in a while, I think it is perfectly all right and go nuts to blow the budget on something more extravagant. After all, you can never quite tell just how many more years you have left down the road, right? Well, if your child finds it difficult to save money, perhaps a little incentive in the form of the £39.95 Star Wars R2-D2 Interactive Money Bank might come in handy.
Heck, you do not even need to be a little child to want the Star Wars R2-D2 Interactive Money Bank for your own use, as we tend to gather a neat amount of spare change at the end of the day. After all, would you rather trust your daily savings in the belly of a porcelain porcine, or rather place the fate of your future in the extremely able and loyal R2-D2, whose actions in the past have included being a courier for a princess even under extremely dangerous situations, and helping out the most powerful Jedi ever before he turned? This R2-D2 will play nice with iOS and Android platforms, and sports the relevant lights and sounds that make the astromech droid so lovable. With the right PIN security code, only will he reveal his innards.

Sure, the PS4 and Xbox One (or “XBone” as we like to call it around here) are coming out in just two months, so the idea of buying an Xbox 360 or PS3 doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to someone like me. I always have to be on the bleeding edge, even if there are no games at launch. Still if someone told me that my Xbox 360 and PS3 would be packaged inside of R2-D2, I might make an exception.
There’s not a whole lot of detail posted about this awesome looking gaming system, except that it’s got both an Xbox 360 and PS3 built in, 500 GB of storage (not sure if that’s per console), a single power supply for both consoles, and internal cooling to make sure they don’t overheat.
This R2-unit also has a 13-inch display built into its flip-up head, and four USB ports in front for connecting controllers – though I only see two. It’s possible that it could be this system, but that one build had a projector built in. Or it’s also possible that Etsy seller Ohhshiney is building these based on Mark Bongo’s Instructable. Either way, it’s a pretty nifty game system for Star Wars junkies.
Best of all, you can actually own this system – if you’ve got about $800(USD) to spare. It’s available over on Etsy now, though it says that they are being made to order, so I’m not sure how quickly the system will be in your hands. I suppose if you wait long enough, somebody will build an R2 unit with a PS4 and an XBone built in. Or maybe a C-3PO with an Fairchild Channel F and a Magnavox Odyssey built in.
