Trying Out a 3D-Scanner That Makes Helmets Custom-Molded to Your Head

It’s not hard to find a badass-looking helmet for your adrenaline-fueled hobbies. The trick is finding one that fits correctly. For decades, that’s meant buying a standard (S/M/L) size lid and rearranging the padding to conform to your noggin. Recently, I got to try out a much better way.

Mario Kart 8 Footage May Make You a Nintendo Fan Again

I have to be honest. I haven’t been a Nintendo fan for ages. These consoles that once had great games just haven’t had anything worth playing for ages. That’s just my opinion. However, this footage from Mario Kart 8 has me actually excited for a Nintendo game.

Of course. We all love Mario Kart. Every version has been a blast. And on May 30th its latest sequel will launch on Wii U. Nintendo even let a select few people try the game out at Best Buy locations during E3 last year. That seems like a lifetime ago.

And now Nintendo is reminding us all why we love this game and making us want to play it right now…

You can expect new characters, new Kart modes, and an awesome all new Rainbow Road. New Rainbow Road people! It is still almost two full months away. Damn you Nintendo!

Hear the shocking difference between 2013 and 2014 F1 racing engines

The rules done changed in F1 racing from last year to now and the most obvious difference between 2013 and 2014 is the sound of the engine in F1 racing cars. Before they used to be so screaming loud that they sounded like the manifestation of space laser warfare on the road. Now in 2014? It’s like hearing weak go karts prancing around the track. It’s that different.

Real World Racer Races Against A Video Game Racer

Just because one is good at something in real life, it doesn’t mean that they are good at it in virtual reality. For example there are real life guitarists of legendary statuses who might actually lose out to a gamer in a game of Guitar Hero, but regardless it’s still an interesting comparison to make nonetheless. Looking to test the driving skills of a virtual racer against a real life racer, Viagame took one of Sweden’s best gaming drivers, Fredrik Brolin, and pitted him against the likes of real world racing pro, Peter Ternstrom.

The goal was to see who would finish first and instead of both drivers playing the game, Brolin would play the game, while Ternstrom would drive in real life around the same track, Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. However the kicker is that both drivers would be in the same car, meaning that Brolin had to play his video game while Ternstrom was in the driver’s seat. We reckon this is a disadvantage to Brolin who had to concentrate on the game while being jerked around in the car as it was driven and made corners, but it was still a pretty interesting competition nonetheless. Who do you think won? For those curious about the outcome, you can check out their competition in the video above.

Formula E’s electric-powered race car takes its first test laps (video)

A few months ago we got our first look at the Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E teams will be racing next year, and just recently, that car hit a test track in France for the first time to see how it held up. Spark Racing president Frédéric Vasseur reported things went well, with the car turning about 40 laps over two days of testing at La Ferté Gaucher without taking a sip of fuel. The video after the break captures a few clips from the laps — running on a smaller 50kW battery, just 25 percent of the 270hp-equivalent power race-ready cars will have — and while we’ll need to adjust to the lack of noise, perhaps its impressive torque and handling can make up for it. More tests are planned before the first race in Beijing next September as the team pushes its mileage up bit by bit before running a full race simulation.

2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo: Mo Power, Handling and Speed

I’ve always been a fan of factory-modified cars (meaning that all mods are under warranty) – especially when they blow away more expensive, luxury sports cars. I love cars like the Subaru WRX STi and the Nissan GT-R. Naturally, the GT-R is quite a bit pricier, but this new version promises to surpass the performance of million-dollar rides. Are you up for it?

The Nissan GT-R Nismo comes with a tweaked 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine that produces 591hp and 481 pound-feet of torque. It will offer a racing suspension, a more rigid body, and improved aerodynamics, allowing it to perform extremely well in most conditions. Its Recaro racing seats come decked out in carbon fiber, and you’ll find Alcantara leather all over the place.

For now, prices haven’t been announced, but rumors say that you’ll pay roughly 50% more than what you’d spend on the standard GT-R. There will be only 200 GT-R Nismos made for the 2015 model year.

Gran Turismo documentary ‘Kaz’ exposes series’ enigmatic creator (video)

DNP Gran Turismo documentary looks to shed light on series' enigmatic creator

To celebrate 15 years of Gran Turismo, Sony is releasing a documentary about the obsessions of series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide chronicles Yamauchi’s creative process via interviews with car makers and journalists, all keen to heap praise on the mastermind. While the trailer (embedded below) does get a little bit heavy-handed — with slightly dodgy comparisons to Magellan, for instance — it’s nice to see an influential game designer’s work in the spotlight. We don’t have a release date, but it coming out near GT6‘s December 6th launch doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
