Motorola Droid RAZR M Review: The Best Non-Giant Android Phone [Lightning Review]

Android phones have been getting bigger and bigger, and that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. As Motorola said at unveiling of the Droid RAZR M, “Some people just want a smaller phone.” Does this phone, designed to fill that niche, still deliver on performance? More »

Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD: Battery Life to the MAXX

Remember when RAZR phones were cool? That was about 7 years ago, or even more. That didn’t stop Google’s Motorola Mobility division from trying to make the RAZR cool again, albeit not with its new moniker.

Yes, the name is quite ridiculous but the new RAZR MAXX HD comes with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display (1,280 × 768 pixels), which is pretty cool. It has 4G LTE networking, powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with 1 GB of RAM, and running Android 4.0. (The OS will be upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1 later this year.) Its main camera is 8MP, while the front-facing camera offers 1.3MP for video chats. There’s a microSD card to boost its 32GB of onboard storage.

Motorola wants to be known for massive batteries, and the RAZR MAXX HD is no exception. It comes with a 3,300 mAh battery, which is enough for 21 hours of talk time, 27 hours of streaming music, or 32 hours of mixed use.

I have to say that I’m loving the very powerful battery. I also like that the back is made out of Kevlar, which is supposed to be water-repellent. For the moment, the specs of the RAZR MAXX HD definitely beat the iPhone 4S, but with the iPhone 5 likely to be announced next Wednesday, who knows how long Google’s advantage will last.

Motorola’s rebate site goes live: $100 credit if you need to upgrade to get Jelly Bean

Motorola's rebate site goes live: $100 credit if you need to upgrade to get Jelly Bean

During Motorola’s keynote on Wednesday, the company announced a nice little bonus for loyal fans — should your 2011-or-later handset not receive a Jelly Bean update, you’ll get $100 if you upgrade to one of its new models. Well, a website for the deal has gone live and the initial Ts&Cs don’t make it sound like an immediate discount, but that the Benjamin will instead be reimbursed as a gift card, carrier credit or a cash equivalent of Motorola’s choice. We’re still in the dark about which specific phones will be denied a taste of Android 4.1, although the list is expected “very soon.” In the meantime, you can sign up at the source link below to receive details of how to update, or how to claim the rebate once the fate of your old handset has been decided.

Motorola’s RAZR HD LTE coming ‘exclusively’ to Rogers in Canada later this fall

Motorola's RAZR HD LTE coming 'exclusively' to Rogers in Canada later this fall

Amidst all the exciting chaos from yesterday’s events, Canadian availability of Motorola’s newfangled RAZR HD were wistfully lost. Fret not, however, as the Google-owned outfit has let it be known that its recently announced 4.7-inch slab will be coming to Canada as an exclusive to Rogers — not to mention with a slightly tweaked moniker. The RAZR HD LTE — as it’ll be known in Great White North territory — is still the same unit we got our grubby paws on, meaning you’ll have the same 8.4mm thin body, 2,500mAh battery, dual-core, 1.5GHz S4 CPU and, naturally, that trademark Kevlar backing found on the RAZR family. There’s no word yet on how much folks will have to shell out once it hits Canadian shelves “this fall,” but there is a registration page open for anyone interested in being kept in the loop — link to that is just down below.

Motorola bringing RAZR M to Europe with Intel mobile chip

Motorola bringing Droid RAZR M to Europe with Intel mobile chip

If you liked the look of Motorola’s recently-announced RAZR M, but reside on the other side of the Atlantic, you might get what you want — with some internal changes. While Intel and Motorola’s London event isn’t for another two weeks, according to Pocket-lint, it’ll possibly be a Medfield-powered version of Motorola’s smallest new addition waiting for British phone-shoppers later this month. The Intel mobile processor would replace the Snapdragon S4 residing in the US version, but the rest of the phone’s specification (and dimensions) will remain unchanged. We’ll be checking in on this Intel iteration at its launch event on September 18th.

Motorola RAZR MAXX HD Officially Announced, Arrives With A Heavy-Duty Battery

In the league of new flagship smartphones that Motorola has unveiled at its NYC event is the heavy-duty RAZR MAXX HD. Of the three, RAZR M is a relatively modest release while RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD are geared at high-end consumers.

The interesting part is that in terms of specs, RAZR MAXX HD is exactly the same as RAZR HD.

Even the looks are so similar that you won’t be able to tell the two apart. The only defining feature that differentiates MAXX HD is that it packs a powerful 3300 mAh battery. (more…)

Motorola Droid RAZR HD: Beauty in a Kevlar Coat [Video]

We haven’t seen a flagship device from Verizon and Motorola since the last Droid RAZR was announced nearly a year ago. A case could be made for the RAZR MAXX, announced at CES, but Moto needed something new and splashy to compete with the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III. More »

Motorola’s Secret Weapon for Its Next Android Phone Is a Complete Edge-to-Edge Screen? [Android]

The Motorola phones that have leaked before its announcement event next week have mostly been varying degrees of meh. Droid Razr somethin’ or another who cares. How are they going to make some noise? How about a complete edge-to-edge screen, meaning the entire front of the device is the display? Whoa. More »

Motorola Droid RAZR M 4G LTE appears with silver trim

It’s time again to see the next Verizon 4G LTE device before its official launch as another leaked photo appears to be bringing along with it one more glimpse of the sharp-looking Droid RAZR M 4G LTE in silver. Of course if you take into account that the previous versions of the DROID RAZR were made in “white” trim, you might be thinking that this device is bringing on white – it’s all up to your vision at this point as no official word has been dropped. This device has also had some specifications leaked with it just yesterday for your perusal.

The images you see above were leaked to Engadget by an unnamed supplier of leaked images and does indeed seem to be quite legitimate looking. If you’ll have a peek at the previous leak you’ll find that the Droid RAZR M also has a black color scheme like the DROID RAZR. This device is more than likely set for both of these colors for launch time which will be approaching quite soon, we must assume.

This device has been tipped to be carrying a dual-core dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor and it’s display will be a lovely 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced. It’ll be popping up with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will have a 8 megapixel camera on its back. The front will have a camera as well, in this case a 3 megapixel beast of a shooter able to take 720p video as well.

This smartphone will have many of the same protections that recent Motorola devices have had including splash coating on its innards and Kevlar weave backing over the battery. Like recent Motorola devices as well, we’re not expecting to see a replaceable battery here, this allowing the manufacturer to make the device much thinner than it otherwise would have been able. Keep your eyes to the Motorola tag to see where this is all going, and expect a release in early September – the 5th, to be exact!

Motorola Droid RAZR M 4G LTE spotted in white trim

Motorola Droid RAZR M 4G LTE spotted in white

We’ve had the chance to take a good, hard look at the Motorola Droid RAZR M 4G LTE (aka XT907) bathed in the standard black color option, but what about the rumored white hue? Wait no longer: we just got handed the above images showing the Kevlar-clad device complete with a bleached trim, a design choice that appears to follow closely after the original white Droid RAZR. It’s unfortunate, however, that Motorola and Verizon have chosen to continue this trend of merely changing the color of the phone’s edges and calling it a day. Does the new look change your overall opinion of the midrange smartphone? Feel free to sound off below.
