Apple hires EPA veteran Lisa Jackson to boost its environmental efforts

We’re used to Apple’s CEO teasing product strategies at D Conferences, but not staffing changes. And yet, here we are: Tim Cook has revealed at D11 that former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson is joining Apple to coordinate the firm’s drive toward eco-friendliness. While there are few specifics at this stage, including Jackson’s title, we know that she’ll report directly to Cook. There’s certainly no shortage of tasks for her to handle: along with Apple’s shift toward renewable energy sources, she also has to worry about the environmental impact of the products themselves.

Nintendo - Recruiting students for Nintendo Game Seminar 2013 - 8 month at-home group project for future game creators

Nintendo started recruiting students for the Nintendo Game Seminar 2013. It is intended for university/graduate/college/technical college students living in areas around Tokyo or Osaka as of April 2013. This process and seminar is in Japanese.

The seminar is for a period of 8 months and is an in-home style seminar where participants take a class once a week and work on projects at home. Presentations and other big events will take place in Nintendo’s headquarters office or Tokyo/Osaka branches. Students will work on software development in a group of about 6 people and then at the end of the seminar term each group will give a presentation on their software.

The process is competitive. It starts by submitting an entry form online. Those who pass this must survive 2 rounds of interviews and an examination to become one of about only 12 students for each area (Tokyo or Osaka areas). At the time of submitting the online entry form, applicants must choose one of 3 categories: Program, Graphic, and Sound.

Nintendo will provide support regarding game creating knowledge, environment, and expenses, so for young students who have ambitions to become game creators, this seminar will be a great opportunity.

Application period: May 13 – June 2
