Microsoft Hints At Surface Pro Battery Improvement Through Accessory Spine

Microsoft took to Reddit’s community yesterday to conduct an AMA where they spoke to members of the site in order to answer questions regarding its Surface Pro. During that time, they addressed the Surface Pro’s storage as well as its battery life, but they also may have hinted at plans to improve one of those two issues.

The Reddit AMA session was conducted by Microsoft’s Surface boss Panos Panay, and while he was asked a number of questions in regards to the Surface Pro, one user asked why the connector design for the Surface Pro and Surface RT were different from one another. Panay responded by saying “we haven’t announced what [the connectors] are for but they aren’t an accident. The recovery partition, which can be removed, was originally added to the Surface Pro’s drive in order to have it readily available if needed. Shipping a USB recovery key was considered, but ultimately decided against due to concern of it getting misplaced. (more…)

The Surface’s OS will take up a lot of space

We got our first look at Microsoft’s new hero device the Surface tablet yesterday, and some engineers from Microsoft took to Reddit to do an AMA today. There wasn’t too much that we didn’t already know, but the engineers did drop some interesting tidbits. For instance, the price of the Surface looks good when you take storage space into account–the $500 model of the Surface comes with 32GB of storage, whereas the iPad only has 16GB at that price. However, you may not get to use that whole 32GB. A vague answer given by Richard Lopez during the AMA led many to believe that the preinstalled Microsoft software would take up gigabytes and gigabytes of space: (more…)
