Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G bringing keyboard, longwinded name to T-Mobile September 19th

Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G bringing keyboard, longwinded name to TMobile September 19th

We knew it was arriving soon, but until now, we weren’t exactly sure what T-Mobile meant when it said the Relay 4G was hitting in the “coming weeks.” Now the magenta carrier is putting the release of the QWERTY handset formerly known as the also verbose Galaxy S Blaze Q at September 19th. The slider will run you and your thumbs $150 with a two-year contract, after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Windows Phone 8 may land October 29th, just days after its desktop brother

Windows Phone 8 may land October 29th

Word on the street is that Windows Phone 8 will get its official launch on October 29th. When asked for confirmation, Microsoft issued a pretty standard “no comment,” which leads us to believe there might actually be something to this rumor. With Windows 8 slated to land on October 26th, we wouldn’t be surprised to see its portable counterpart hit the market just a few days later, as ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley is suggesting. October is already expected to be a rather hectic month for Microsoft, with launch of countless Windows 8 tablets scheduled. Putting WP8 out alongside its first batch of handsets (hello ATIV S!) would only make sense, really. We can think of a reason or two that Microsoft might want to utterly dominate a few news cycles.

Google Chrome 21 stable release adds Retina MacBook Pro support, webcam use without plugins

Google Chrome Retina Display

Some Retina MacBook Pro owners have been waiting for this day for six weeks: that promised Retina support in Google Chrome is now part of a finished, stable release. Chrome 21 is now crisp and clear for those who took the plunge on Apple’s new laptop but would rather not cling to Safari for the web. No matter what hardware you’re using, Google has rolled in its promised WebRTC support to let webcams and microphones have their way without Flash or other plugins. Other notable tweaks like wider support for Cloud Print and gamepads tag along in the update as well. If you’re at all intrigued by the expanded hardware support in Chrome, Google has an abundance of details (and downloads) at the links below.

Motorola DEFY Pro heads to Brazil, offers tough and tactile Android action

Motorola DEFY Pro heads to Brazil, tough and tactile Android action

You got to give it to Motorola, it’s pretty specific with its handset releases. Today’s announcement? It’s the DEFY Pro doing the Samba towards Brazil. The “lifeproof” phone is designed to battle the elements (water, dust and carnival spirit,) and is the first touchscreen / QWERTY Android handset from the firm. There’s 2.7-inches of Gorilla Glassed screen to poke at, an SD card slot to upgrade the 2GB onboard memory (upto 32GB) plus GPS and WiFi (so you can find your way home with the morning after). How much for this party of a phone? We don’t know just yet, but the fun starts on July 15th, when it becomes available.

Update: Motorola reached out to us with some clarification on its claim of being the first touchscreen / QWERTY Android handset:

The release denotes that the DEFY Pro is our first life-proof device to feature both a QWERTY and touchscreen. Motorola’s life-proof devices are water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof, ready to handle life’s daily challenges, indoors and out. Admiral and Titanium have similar features but are categorized slightly differently since they are iDEN-based products and have different mil-spec certification.

Huawei Ascend D Quad release set for late August in China, October for European markets

Huawei Ascend D Quad release set for end of August

Been holding onto the hope that Huawei’s quad-core flagship would bow relatively soon? Well, it’s time to swallow an extra dose of patience because it appears the Ascend D Quad is slated for an eventual late summer / early fall launch. As confirmed to the The Inquirer, the Chinese market will get first crack at the device this August, with a Western European debut to follow sometime after in October of this year. Originally outed at this past Mobile World Congress, the well-specced handset was scheduled for a summer release before technical issues revolving around the company’s custom K3 Balong CPU set back mass production. When it finally lands on retailers’ shelves, the one-time dynamo device won’t look nearly as spectacular, given its now dated ICS OS, the glut of existing Android überphones (i.e. Galaxy S III and One X) and those to come. Does it risk becoming yesterday’s mobile news? Only time and your dollars can say for sure.

Sprint’s white EVO 4G LTE reportedly set for July 15th release, BOGO on Epic 4G Touch in tow

Sprint's EVO 4G LTE reportedly set for release on July 15

Are you a Sprint customer with a penchant for LTE technology and white handsets? If so, listen up. Intel leaked to blog TechnoBuffalo seems to indicate that the Now Network’s very first LTE-toting handset will be hitting store shelves, in snow white, on July 15th; obviously, we’re talking about HTC’s latest spin on the EVO, the EVO 4G LTE. The albino set, much like its hued brethren already in market, will set you back $200 with a signed two-year commitment, or can be had for $550 contract-free. As an added bonus, it looks like Sprint will also be serving up a buy-on-get-one-free offer on Samsung’s Epic 4G Touch. Purchasing one 4G Touch — scheduled to get Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future — for $99 on-contract will allow you pick up a second set for the always attractive price of $0. Any takers?
