Xbox One Release Date Announced

Hot on the heels of the revelation that the Xbox One was in full production, and would be getting a CPU bump, Microsoft today announced the release date for their next-gen console: November 22, 2013.

xbox one 1

The Xbox One will hit retailers in all 13 of its launch markets on this date, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and of course, the good old US of A. Microsoft expects to ship the Xbox One to more countries in 2014.

This puts the release date one week after the launch of the Sony PS4, which may give Microsoft a slight disadvantage in their holiday sales numbers, but I’m thinking that as long as they’re out prior to Black Friday, they should be on equal footing.

Not coincidentally, November 22nd is the same date the Xbox 360 was released in the U.S. and Canada – eight years ago if you can believe it.

Despite its initial sell-out of pre-orders, Microsoft is accepting a limited number of additional pre-orders for the Day One Edition of the Xbox One over the Microsoft Store.

Sony’s 4K TVs Will Be Surprisingly Affordable—in That They Cost Less than a Car

The $25,000 pricetag attached to Sony’s 84-inch UltraHD set—the one that’s been haunting your dreams since CES—may put that super-sized set out of your financial reach but that doesn’t mean everything 4K is prohibitively expensive. In fact, Sony’s new 55- and 65-inch sets are downright inexpensive (by comparison) and will be available for pre-order by the end of the month. More »

HTC One Releasing In The U.S. ‘Before The End Of April’

HTC One Releasing In The U.S. Before The End Of April

For everyone in the U.S. outside of Verizon Wireless, the HTC One was been officially delayed from being released. HTC has yet to reveal just what exactly is holding the device up from being in the hands of U.S. consumers, with rumors pointing at the issue being HTC no longer being considered a “tier one” customer. Today, the company sent out a note with an updated timeline when we could except the HTC One to be released.

“HTC has seen unprecedented demand for and interest in the new HTC One, and the care taken to design and build it is evidenced in early reviews,” says an HTC spokesperson. “The new HTC One will roll out in the UK, Germany and Taiwan next week and across Europe, North America and most of Asia-Pacific before the end of April. We appreciate our customers’ patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait.” (more…)

Windows Phone 8 handset UK availability and pricing detailed: free starting from £21 per month

We’ve heard how Windows Phone 8 is all about you, and seen all the devices bearing the new OS at launch. What’s left, however, is where you can get one on the other side of the pond and, more importantly, how much it’s going to cost you. Nokia has separately announced that both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be launching in the UK (and France) later this week. More specifically, though, it looks like every UK carrier will be getting at least two handsets, with the almost-ready-to-launch EE getting both of HTC and Nokia’s handset pairs. We’ve got all the (current) pricing details and availability dates after the break.

Panasonic Lumix GH3 launches on December 13th, but pricing remains a mystery

Panasonic Lumix GH3 launches on December 13th, but pricing remains a secret

Panasonic’s forthcoming mirror-less multimedia wonder has been given a release date. Yep, the Lumix GH3, with its ‘unlimited recording time’ and magnesium alloy build, will arrive in the Land of the Rising Sun just over a month from now. While the Japanese press release doesn’t specify pricing, you can expect this Lumix to arrive in body-only and two lens kit variants, one with a 12-35mm f/2.8 zoom lens, and another with a f/4.0 – 5.8 rig. Behind those optic options (not to mention the ability to capture 72Mbps 60p video), you’ll be getting a 16-megapixel sensor, splash-proof shell and a flip-out OLED touchscreen alongside a 614K-dot viewfinder. If that leaked video sample piqued your interest, check out the full spec rundown at the source below.

Microsoft Surface pre-orders in Canada, UK are not delayed (Update)

Microsoft Surface preorderers in Canada, UK report release dates pushed back to November 2nd

Microsoft’s Surface for Windows RT appears to be flying off the virtual shelves, however it seems some of the customers who’ve pre-ordered will be waiting about a week longer than they thought. We’ve received several tips from readers in Canada and the UK indicating they’ve received emails (as seen above, check after the break for similar reports from Twitter) explaining that their tablets will be shipping on November 2nd, instead of October 26th as originally scheduled when they put their requests in days ago. There’s no reason currently listed for the delay, however we have contacted Microsoft for further comment on the situation. Currently the Surface is listed as completely sold out on the UK and Canada Microsoft Store sites, and in the US all three variants are no longer promised for delivery on release date. It’s been reported that Microsoft is building up to five million of the devices for launch this fall, hopefully they can all find their way to good homes sooner rather than later.

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson has responded, informing us that the emails sent out were incorrect, so “all customers should expect their devices by the original date given.” It will be following up with customers to let them know their shipping date has not changed, and you can read the full statement for yourself after the break.

[Thanks to Jack, everyone who sent this in]

Ooma HD2 handset and Linx adapter available on Oct.17 for $60 and $50, respectively

Ooma HD2 handset and Linx adapters available today for $60 and $50, respectively

Ooma’s Telo telephony device is pretty wonderful all by itself, but pairing it with the company’s soon-to-be-released HD2 handset and Linx peripheral presents a whole new opportunity to the VoIP crowd. The HD2 — the second generation Telo handset first introduced at CES 2012 — offers some smartphone-esque functionality to your home phone: syncing with contacts across various social media services, for one, and profile photos popping up in the 2-inch color screen as identification on incoming calls. It launches very soon — October 17 — at US and Canadian retailers with an asking price of $60, despite previously being given a March 2012 launch window.

The Linx — which was outed in an FCC filing earlier this year — adds a much more quaint ability to the Telo: the ability to plug in any normal landline phone (yes, even that free football phone you got with your Sports Illustrated subscription in the mid-’90s). The Telo can handle up to four connected phones, in the HD2 handset or Linx-connected devices (including fax machines, also from the mid-’90s). Linx connectors are also available as of October 17 at US and Canadian retailers with an asking price of $50.
