Team Fortress 2 Sentry Gun Miniature: Ain’t That a Cute Little Gun?

Valve has a life-size model of the Sentry Gun from Team Fortress 2 to guard their office. Programmer and 3D artist Jeff Wong may not be a big shot like Gabe Newell and his employees, but he has a turret manning his house too. You just have to look closely to see it.

Jeff engineered his turret using 3D Studio Max and Photoshop…

…then sent his 3D file to Shapeways to have it printed.

Orderin’ a sentry! You too can get Jeff’s miniature Sentry Gun from Shapeways for about $24 (USD). You should also check out Jeff’s time-lapse video if you know your way around 3ds Max.

Ghostbusters Neutrino Wand Replica: Who Ya Gonna Call?

There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones who call the Ghostbusters and the ones who do the actual ghostbusting. If you want to be a part of the latter, you’d better have the right equipment.

Assuming you already have your Proton Pack and your Ghost Trap, you just need one more tool. Thankfully, Mattel has released a replica of the Ghostbusters Neutrino Wand to help you with your hunting and capturing needs. The company worked with Sony Entertainment to get all the details right and it even has vibrations, kickback, light meter animations, and an extending tip with lights. The sound effects come right from the film itself. There are SO many small details, like much of pieces appearing to be welded together.

So, other than actually emitting a proton beam, it is as authentic as it can be. Check out the video to see the wand in action. And look at that sweet box that it comes in.

Minecraft Virtual 3D Printer: Inkblocks

You can use a 3D printer to create replicas of items made in Minecraft. YouTuber ItsJustJumby did the opposite: he built a virtual 3D printer using Minecraft.  Actually he built a 3D modeling program, a computer and a 3D printer inside the game.

minecraft 3d printer by itsjustjumby 620x303magnify

You can say that Minecraft itself is a kind of virtual 3D printer: you stack tiny blocks in layers and eventually end up with a 3D object.  But ItsJustJumby’s setup is more automatic and even has a crude user interface. I’m not going to pretend to understand how his computer processes the instructions, but I can tell that it both makes 3D models and builds the final object out of wool blocks.

Now all that’s left to do is 3D print his 3D printer.

Hobbit Staff of Gandalf FX Replica worth bringing to the cinema

hobbit-staff-fxHave you watched The Desolation of Smaug over on the silver screen just yet? If you have not done so already, perhaps it would be good to go get a ticket this weekend and enjoy the movie, although some have said that it is three shows too long. We shall let you judge for yourself, and the entire movie viewing experience would be enhanced if you could bring in the $159.99 Hobbit Staff of Gandalf FX Replica with you. Can’t you hear Gandalf’s own booming voice, saying, “You shall not pass!”? As in, pass up the chance to own this staff, of course.

The Hobbit Staff of Gandalf FX Replica, as its name suggests, is a full size, authentic illuminating prop replica of Gandalf’s Staff, measuring 73” in height and tipping the scales at 6lbs. It will feature an On/Off switch to control the light, so you know right from the get go that this has absolutely nothing to do with magic at all. Do bear in mind that this is a full size, authentic illuminating prop replica that is also part of the officially licensed The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey collectible collection. It will run on a trio of AAA batteries in order to power its LED lighting.

Fan Makes Life-Size Call of Duty Ghosts Weapon Arsenal from LEGO

Some people are really creative with LEGO. Long time CoD fan and YouTuber ZaziNombies is one of those true brick masters. He’s made life-size replicas of almost all of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ weapons out of what else? LEGO bricks.
lego mp 443 grach t 620x345magnify

The final pieces are really nice and they have some nice detail. The hand held pistol here replicates the Russian standard military-issue side arm MP-443 Grach. It doesn’t just look cool, it also has removable parts and actual slide action. You can remove the cartridge, which has a gold LEGO bullet loaded inside, and pop it back in nice and smooth.

It is the last pistol you can unlock in the game’s Extinction mode and the only fully-automatic pistol in the whole game. It looks amazing in LEGO. Zazi has also created LEGO versions of the Honey Badger, ARX-160, Vector CRB, the VKS sniper rifle, and this amazing Chain Saw LMG among others:

DIY Luminous Bulb: (Glow in the) Dark Bulb

Korean DIY site Hobby:Design has a neat idea for a light bulb that doesn’t need electricity or electronics to work. The not so secret ingredient is of course glow in the dark pigment. Leave it exposed to bright light during the day and you get soft lighting at night. You can’t turn it off though.

Hobby:Design made the luminous bulbs by first making a cast using an actual light bulb. Then they mixed silicone with luminous pigment and poured the resulting mixture into the cast to get a bulb-shaped replica that glows in the dark. To complete the simile and make it easier to hang the bulb, they screwed the replicas into bulb sockets.

Skyrim Nord Bow Replica: Skyforge IRL

I just want to stare all day at this amazing Skyrim Nord bow. It looks so authentic and beautiful. According to the maker it isn’t functional yet, but that shouldn’t be too difficult. Once it actually shoots, it will take your your knee clean off. Then you can complain about it forever.

It was created by “propmaker, artist, costumer, and all around fan of gaming, sci-fi, and miscellany” Carmen from Fev Studios. Carmen, you have some mad skills, but I gotta say…”You’ll shoot your eye out kid!” Just saying. Be careful. That thing looks deadly. Deadly awesome.

This bow is about 52″ long. Carmen is a true weaponsmith with a skill level that you can’t even put a number on. Seriously, she’s leveling up all the time. I’m fairly scared of her, seeing her handle this weapon. That armor is pretty sweet too.

LEGO Optimus Prime: Bricks of Leadership

As his chosen moniker gives away, LEGO enthusiast Alex Jones aka Orion Pax is a huge fan of Transformers. It’s no surprise that one of his ongoing builds is a replica of his namesake, specifically a Generation 1 Optimus Prime. Yep, it can transform into a vehicle and a robot.

As you’ll see in the gallery below Alex also made Prime’s sidekicks, Roller and the Combat Deck.

The Brothers Brick points out that Alex cheated a bit with Prime’s head because it’s actually a KRE-O piece, but that’s just a small compromise for a stunning build.

It turns out Alex is quite the perfectionist. He says he’s been working on transformable LEGO versions of the Generation 1 Transformers since 2000, and implies that he’ll never be fully satisfied with his builds. He says that he thinks about them even at night and at this point it’s like his toys are torturing him, compelling him to improve them over and over. Sounds like this Prime is quite a Decepticon after all. Check out Alex’s website for more of his awesome work.
