Dead Space Plasma Cutter Replica Uses Real Lasers to Slice Through Alien Limbs

We’ve seen some Dead Space Plasma Cutters before – even some with real lasers, but hey, lasers are always cool, so check this one out and be very impressed. The craftmanship and attention to detail here is simply stunning.

plasma cutter lasers

It was made by Patrick Priebe of Laser Gadgets. This weapon can actually do some serious damage, which is great if you find yourself on a derelict spaceship full of killer aliens.

Just like the video game gun it can go from vertical to horizontal and back again and as shown in the video, it can burn things of course.  It’s powered by three bright 30mW green lasers for aiming, and a 1.5W blue laser for burning stuff. While Patrick doesn’t offer plans or a build guide for his Plasma Cutter, he will build and sell you one if you have enough money.

Dead Space 3 Plasma Cutter Working Replica Can Fire Real Lasers

EA’s Dead Space 3 may have come and gone, but one thing fans of the series will never forget is just how awesome the Plasma Cutter is as it can effectively cut up a necromorpth with very little effort. That’s why we absolutely had to feature Patrick Priebe’s working replica of Dead Space’s Plasma Cutter.

Priebe’s Plasma Cutter working replica uses a total of five laser beams – three green lasers to aim and two blue, 1,500 milliwatt beams to burn stuff with. It took Priebe a total of 200 hours to build his Plasma Cutter, and as you can see in the video above, it can shift between horizontal and vertical orientations and can even be reloaded with energy packs. The blue 1,500 milliwatt beam can be seen burning holes in a piece of wood and through a plastic bag, although we’re sure it isn’t strong enough to do any serious damage to a person.

Guy Saves His Precious from California Springs Fire

By now everyone everywhere has heard of the Springs Fire that has been devastating southern California. It’s a serious problem that is costing people their lives and their homes, but at least one geeky story of bravery has come out of it.

gollum replica

On the lighter side of this tragedy, one guy risked his life to save something very precious to him. A replica of Gollum. He did this as flames advanced towards his backyard. You have to really love your Tolkien to take a chance like that.

In all seriousness, if you find yourself in potential fire zone, you should probably get your collectibles sorted out ahead of time.

Guy Masters Universe, Builds Giant Skeletor Action Figure Replica

If you are a He-Man fan who finds the 80′s action figures just a little too small, check this out. Oh and clear some floor space if you want to make one of these yourself. This is a giant replica of the Skeletor action figure, no doubt made by the power of Grayskull.

skeletor
This giant action figure was made by Diego D. Gonzalez of DDG Colecciones. I guess the standard action figure size wasn’t big enough. Skeletor even has his staff accessory, which has been super-sized as well.

Here are some images and video documenting the build…

Boy that stand being used to hold Skeletor up during construction doesn’t look too comfortable.

You can check out more images from the build here if you want to try making one for yourself. Good luck with all that.

Miniature Restroom for Action Figures: Everyone Poops

Action figures come with all sorts of props, but the Japanese hobby shop Amiami has one prop that you most certainly don’t have in your collection yet. It’s a 1:12 scale restroom. Why? Because your action figures haven’t gone since they were packed in their box. Think about that.

It comes with a toilet, a sink, a couple of urinals, a toilet paper holder, a trash can, a floor, walls and stickers. I don’t know what the stickers depict and I don’t want to know.

You can order the miniature restroom from Amiami for about $25 (USD). Then check your action figures for the action figure that holds its pose best, the proper stiff one. The constipation is strong in that one. Make him sit on the throne first.

Vulcain Nautical Cricket 1970 Watch: A Classic Gets Remade

I remember that when I was a kid, it was a big deal when my dad got a Seiko analog watch that had a built-in alarm clock. It was definitely something different, and it looked better than a lot of digital watches. The Vulcain Nautical Cricket Watch was an early analog alarm watch from 1970, which is now being remade.

Dubbed the Vulcain Nautical Seventies, the reissue has a 42mm stainless steel case that’s 17.6mm thick and comes with both a black leather and orange diving strap.

The alarm is a Cricket caliber, and its face has shaded rings to calculate diving decompression times. And speaking about diving, the watch is water resistant to a whopping 300 meters.

The Vulcain Nautical Seventies Watch will be released soon, with only 300 of the pieces to be produced. The price hasn’t yet been announced, but other Vulcain watches sell for $6,000 to $10,000.

GoldenEye 007 Remote Mine Replica: Q Approved

This life-size replica of James Bond’s remote mine from GoldenEye 007 was made by Thingiverse member Quiche, ComradeQuiche. The mine has blinking LEDs that you can toggle on and off as well as magnets so you can mount it just like its counterpart, fictional counterpart.

In his original guide, which he posted on Instructables a couple of years ago, Comradequiche used the base of an old joystick as the mine’s case. He did that to make his replica more accurate – the remote mine prop used in the movie GoldenEye was also partly made of an old PC joystick. But because the joystick is no longer in production, Comradequiche decided to make a 3D template for the mine’s housing.

Here’s a quick demo of the replica:

Head to ComradeQuiche’s Thingiverse page for his updated guide as well as the files you need to print the case. If you don’t have access to a 3D printer, you can also buy the 3D printed components from ComradeQuiche. He’s not selling a fully assembled unit though.

Borderlands 2 Diamond Plate Loot Chest Has Both Real and Virtual Rare Drops

The Ultimate Loot Chest pre-order bundle for Borderlands 2 has become a sought after items among fans of the franchise because of the titular container. The remaining units of the bundle are selling for way higher than its original price of $150. Luckily for fans Gearbox has stepped in with another bundle that includes a loot chest.

borderlands 2 diamond plate loot chest

The new Borderlands 2 Diamond Plate Loot Chest doesn’t come with a copy of the game, but it makes up for it with a ton of other goodies, including a replica of the Goliath mask, a code for an in-game Goliath head so your characters can match your new gear, 20 cards with codes for Legendary items, four Wanted posters featuring the playable characters, window decals featuring the weapon manufacturers and of course the sweet loot chest itself.

The bundle will be sold at ThinkGeek, at the Gearbox shop and at Forbidden Planet for $100 (USD) starting June 2013. It’s limited to just 5,000 copies so make sure to keep an eye out for it if you want one. It would’ve been more considerate of Gearbox if they just mass produced the loot chest, but I guess this is better than nothing. As Travis B mentioned in the comments, Gearbox will mass produce this bundle. The only thing that’s unique to the first 5,000 units will be the certificate of authenticity. Thanks for the heads up Travis B!
