Sifting through soil on Mars, NASA’s rover Curiosity paused to take a picture – and exposed its own bad behaviour. The shot included a bright object lying in the Martian dirt, and a closer look suggests that the rover is guilty of littering: it appears the object is a piece of plastic wrapper that has fallen from the robot. A couple of months ago, I had a life-altering experience: I bought a new iPad. I use the term “life-altering experience” because before that day, I was a staunch opponent of all things Apple. Hats off to your laissez–faire attitude about the beautiful dinner you guys cooked up at the beach this summer. I was cracking up at the joke you made in the caption (“Looks like we’re eating outside AGAIN. Oh, well…”) under the snapshot of the gorgeous lobsters. The potatoes looked amazing fading off into the blur of a shallow focal range that ends at the saturated greens and yellows of herbs, and cornbread, and lemon garnish on the left just below where the sunset creates the lens flare that bounces off your icy bottle of beer. You must’ve literally JUST pulled that cold one from the tub or cooler I see there on the right next to your, hello, preternaturally attractive mate (unthinkable that they’re whiling away weekdays toiling over files and phone calls in a room someplace like the rest of us rubes. There’s a large contingent of photo enthusiasts online who will dismiss a photo straight away if they find out it was taken with a smartphone.
