Learning how to sign takes time and a whole lot of effort. Others get the hang of it fairly quickly, while some find that practice makes perfect. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have something like the Sign Language Ring to help you throughout the entire process.
The conceptual device is actually a bracelet and ring combo. The bracelet comes with detachable rings that, when worn, detect the signing motions that are made by the wearer. It then “translates” the signs audibly via the bracelet, which has an embedded speaker. The bracelet can also translate voice to text, which is displayed on the built-in screen.
It shortens the learning curve and makes communication easier between those who are hard of hearing or are speech impaired with those who cannot understand sign language.
The concept was thought up by Cao Zu-Wei, Hu Ya-Chun, Huang Ching-Lan, Liao Po-Yang, Tsai Yu-Chi, and Yang Yi-Hsien, who drew inspiration from Buddha prayer beads for the bracelet’s design.
The Sign Language Ring is a 2013 Red Dot Design Award winner.

When it comes to planetary accessories, we’ve got our moon, but lovely as it is, it doesn’t hold a candle to some of the flashier bits of flair out there. I’m talking about rings. Here’s where they come from.
Lazy Jewelry: Sloth Rings
Posted in: Today's ChiliLazy dressers now have one accessory that they must add to their collection: Sloth Rings. Their name says it all, actually. They’re basically rings featuring a sloth that looks like it’s hugging your finger when you put it on.
Adorable little critters, aren’t they?
You can choose from three available sloth colors, but if you’re too lazy to even do that, then I suggest you for brown, which is pretty much their default color.
The rings are handmade using polymer clay by Teresa Macdonald of CuriousBurrow, and because of that, you can expect that no two sloths will ever be completely the same.
The Sloth Rings are available online for $20(USD) each. They’re made to order, so you’ll have to wait two to three weeks before your ring gets shipped out. And if you’re too lazy to slip one on your finger, she also makes a sloth necklace, and a sloth to hold your keys for you.

Etsy artist Christian Griffin must’ve been listening to Soviet Russian Beyonce, because he believes that if you like it then you should put it on a ring. That’s exactly what he did with the iconic song sheets from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If you like them you should put some money in Griffin’s pockets. Whoa oh oh, oh oh oh!
Griffin made rings of 12 of the songs in Ocarina of Time, from Epona’s Song to the Song of Time. The only thing missing? The Scarecrow’s Song. Which kind of makes sense.
You can order the rings from Griffin’s shop Peregrine Studios for $59(USD) each. They’re made from stainless steel but are also available in bronze- and gold-plated variants. He also offers massive discounts in the form of 6 and 12 ring bundles. You can also get cheaper plastic versions of the rings on Griffin’s Shapeways store.

It’s probably not the best idea to plot a daring escape should you ever find yourself confined with a pair of handcuffs or plastic zip-ties. But if you and John Law don’t get along, consider this clever Titanium Escape Ring that hides a small lockpick and saw. Just remember, the one thing it can’t get you out of are the bonds of holy matrimony. More »
This isn’t the first time we’ve see geek-themed engagement rings, and I’m fairly certain this won’t be the last either.
You might have heard all about Star Wars creator George Lucas’ engagement with his longtime girlfriend earlier this month. If you’ve been mulling about popping the big question yourself, then here’s one fun engagement ring option you can look into: this his and hers Star Wars ring set.
The rings are made and designed by Chelsea Swank. Aside from sterling silver, you can have the rings made from gold, platinum, and white gold, like the Death Star rings we showed you last week. You can also choose to have the rings adorned with a stone, like the ones you see above, or forego it if you prefer a simpler look.
Even if you’re not planning on getting married anytime soon, then you can use these as promise rings or as boyfriend-and-girlfriend rings even. Because yes, they’re too awesome to miss out, and they might no longer be in stock by the time you actually want to get hitched.
The following symbols are currently available for use on rings: the Jedi Symbol, Death Star, Rebel Alliance, Imperial Cog, and the Boba Fett Chest Symbol. If you have one in mind that’s not on the list, then you can hit Chelsea up with a message and who knows? She might just design your preferred symbol into a ring. Aside from that, you can also make a request to have the rings engraved with a special message.
The Star Wars rings in sterling silver go for $325(USD), the gold ones are priced at $1,050, the white gold ones retail for $1,250, and the platinum rings cost $3,000. Gemstones will set you back another $75 each – a bargain compared to building an actual Death Star.
