Robot Helps Ferry Sniper Casualties To Safety

Robot Helps Ferry Sniper Casualties To SafetyThere are times in life when a particular experience would actually jolt us into action, and in July 2012, Ahmad Haidar saw a young man die at the hands of a Syrian army sniper. the first shot hit the victim in the leg, before the second shot hit the man squarely in the neck, killing him instantly. Ahmad then decided to put his expertise in electronics and computer programming to develop a remote-controlled robot that has large mechanical arms which will hopefully be able to ferry sniper casualties to safety. This robot, known as Tena, has caterpillar tracks to help it traverse all sorts of terrain.

iPhone App Keeps You Updated On Drone Strikes

iPhone App Keeps You Updated On Drone StrikesWould it be somewhat morbid if you could download an app that would basically track drone kills conducted over in the Middle East? After all reading about the death and carnage caused by war in the newspapers alone is a little disconcerting, let alone being notified in real-time whenever there are drone strikes. Then again we guess there are some who are curious and want to be updated all the time, and now there’s an app for that called Metadata+. Developed by John Begley, this app has been in the works for several years now but has constantly been rejected by Apple, originally claiming to be not entertaining enough, before it was told to Begley that his app might have content that users might find questionable. A Fish Drives a Car

A while back we featured a robot vehicle that was made to be driven by a parrot. This one’s meant for fishes. Image recognition specialist Studio diip made Fish on Wheels to showcase its prowess in its field. The vehicle moves by following the movement of the fish inside the tank.

A webcam positioned above the tank feeds video to a Beagleboard, which analyzes the position of the fish by contrasting the animal’s body with the bottom of the tank. The instructions are then sent to the vehicle itself, which is powered by an Arduino.

UAE Intends To Use Delivery Drones As Well

UAE Intends To Use Delivery Drones As WellWill drones take over the world eventually? Perhaps, or perhaps not. A Skynet-like experience from the Terminator movie franchise should still be some ways off, but this does not mean that society could eventually make the move to accept drones to perform mundane tasks such as delivery. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is the latest party with plans to make use of high-tech drones when it comes to the delivery of official documents and packages, and they have set a time frame of one year to get the job done. Touted to be the first project of its kind, the battery-powered quadcopters that will be used are touted to be a wee bit smaller compared to a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. Some of the items that such drones will deliver include small-sized packages including (but not limited to) identity cards, driving licenses and other permits.

Air Hockey Robot Built With 3D Printer And PS3 Camera Assistance

There is still some life left yet in the PS3 camera, so do not even think about ditching it at the moment. If you have always loved a spot of air hockey, then you would be more than pleased to hear that a designer decided to make use of parts from a 3D printer as well as a PS3 camera in order to construct a winning air hockey robot. I am quite sure that many of us air hockey fans would love to go up against this machine by Jose Julio, as this machine has proven itself to be so slick thanks to quick and accurate movements, that many an opponent has been left super frustrated.

Pay A Visit To The Museum Via A Robot

Pay A Visit To The Museum Via A RobotSome folks absolutely adore museums, while others would far prefer to spend their time elsewhere than look at relics from the past. Here is a novel method of changing your perspective on museum visits – apparently, the Tate museum over in London has announced the winner of its new IK Prize, which is an estimated $115,000 reward that will be handed over to a design team that has the best new method to experience a modern day museum – albeit in the digital realm. After Dark is the champion, where it was constructed by a three-member team who have called themselves “The Workers”.

Hack a 3D Printer Into a Surprisingly Skilled Air Hockey Robot

Good news for anyone who dropped a small fortune on a 3D printer and found themselves bored of creating novelty keychains and meme-based figurines. Jose Julio successfully turned the parts needed to build a RepRap 3D printer into an air hockey-playing robot that looks pretty tough to beat.
