Roccat launches Kone XTD and Pure models

German computer peripherals manufacturer Roccat is most famous for their range of gaming mice and keyboards, and this time around, they have introduced a couple of new models for the masses – the Roccat Kone XTD and Pure models. Both mice will continue to retain the famous Kone form factor, features as well as performance, where the Roccat Pure will boast of a profile that is 9% slimmer than before while sporting a new Roccat Titan Wheel and Click Master switch tech. Hey, if you are in the market for a new mouse (or two), you might as well see what Roccat has to offer and who knows, it might just prove to be a union with your hand that you will not regret.

The Roccat Kone XTD has been dubbed by some to be the “Max Customization Gaming Mouse”, while the Roccat Kone Pure is known as the “Core Performance Gaming Mouse”, where both of the new mice should have already hit Europe since October 26th onwards, while folks living in North America as well as Asia will only be on the receiving end of them before December rolls around.

In terms of performance, we are looking at world beaters here, where you will be able to experience a fully-adjustable 8200 DPI ProAim R3 laser sensor that boasts of a whopping 41 DPI settings that range from 200 to 8200, in addition to a 32-bit Turbo Core V2 72MHz ARM MCU processor, 576KB of on-board memory, as well as what Roccat deems to be the most advanced Tracking & Distance Control Unit in the world. All of the components are said to function in clockwork unison, delivering the world’s most impressive speed, control and accuracy. Of course, all of the above mentioned might just be marketing speak, and even if it is true, you will still need to give either mouse a test run before you agree with the conclusions.

After all, a gaming mouse is a very personal piece of equipment, and different gamers play games differently, so the way they wield their mice is not the same as the gamer sitting next to them.

ROCCAT introduces a no-fray gaming mousepad, the Hiro 3D Supremacy

You can ask a gamer to go without a bath for a few days or perhaps just to exist on nothing but pepperoni pizza and fizzy drinks as their staple diet, but don’t ever, ever ask the gamer to use someone else’s rig for more than a day. It is somewhat akin to asking a Formula 1 driver to sit in the cockpit of somebody else’s car and ordering them to win the race. It just does not work, as a gaming rig is a very personal machine, one that has been built from the ground up to cater to one’s whims and fancies (according to the budget on hand, of course). Having said that, one important gaming accessory that should not be overlooked would be the mousepad. After all, once you have a top notch gaming mouse, you might as well go the whole nine yards and ensure your high end gaming mouse will glide along effortlessly on a surface worthy of its Teflon feet. Enter the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy Surface Gaming Mousepad.

This puppy hails from Germany, and is not quite ready for prime time action just yet. In fact, you will have to go through this Thanksgiving and Christmas without the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy in your stable of gaming peripherals, as it will only arrive in North America sometime in January next year. This is no ordinary gaming mousepad, as it opens up the category for a new high-performance cloth gaming pad. The main selling point? This is the world’s first mousepad that relies on an advanced new manufacturing process which results in smooth, rounded edges that will not ever fray, even after weeks and months of (abuse) extended use. The build process has been patented, creating an inseparable “power bond” between upper and lower surfaces so that this mousepad delivers unrivaled durability.

As for its gaming surface, the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy changes the game yet again, boasting of an exclusive vulcanized silicone playing field that sports a complex 3D structure, which ROCCAT claims will be able to deliver significantly increased gliding speed and control on both the X and Y axis. In short, your hand will be able to enjoy the ultimate command capability during even the most demanding of gaming sessions. Too bad there is no word on pricing at press time, but we do hope to find out more.

Roccat Hiro gaming mousepad kisses goodbye to frayed edges

If you are a gamer who takes your vocation seriously (oh yeah, about that 9 to 5 gig that you have to slog through each day for five days a week? That’s just a necessity in life so that you are able to do what you love when you reach home), then surely you would know that having the right kind of hardware is definitely one of the first and most basic of steps to take. After all, having all the skills in the world without being supported by decent hardware is not going to bring you to the top of any frag list for sure. Apart from a high performance rig, the choice of peripherals are also crucial – such as a gaming mouse, keyboard, and of course, the humble mousepad. German-born Roccat has just announced their latest Hiro gaming mousepad whose selling point is this – it boasts of edges that will never, ever fray.

This is truly a next generation mousepad that will boast a special kind of vulcanized silicone surface so that you will be able to experience unrivaled control and accuracy, in addition to a patented construction which makes sure the letdown such as fraying edges will be relegated to a thing of the past, while delivering maximum durability throughout your gaming career. Touted to be the first mousepad of its kind in the world that relies on this advanced new manufacturing process, the patented build process results in an inseparable “power bond” between upper and lower surfaces.

ROCCAT Founder and CEO, René Korte, said, “With the Hiro, we are yet again bringing true innovation to gaming. Frayed edges are a thing of the past with this mousepad. And its groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind surface delivers speed and precision that will thrill even the most demanding gamers. We built the Hiro using only the most advanced materials and construction methods – so gamers can rest assured their pad will provide max battle durability and performance, mission after mission.”

There is also an advanced Force Field protective coating that makes the Hiro’s surface water resistant as well as easy to clean, making it far simpler to prepare yourself for the next round of fraggests. It measures 350mm x 250mm, making it large enough for those who play with low sensitivity levels, and has a thickness of just 2.5mm, now how about that?

ROCCAT Mega Mice range launched

We have seen our fair share of ROCCAT gaming mice in the past, and this time around, the new launch of Mega Mice will comprise of three models, and they are the ROCCAT Kone XTD (as seen above), the ROCCAT Kone Pure, and the ROCCAT Lua. ROCCAT has clearly underlined their intentions to make the Kone XTD as the successor to the legendary Kone[+] gaming mouse, throwing in even more functions and features compared to the Kone[+] while ensuring the well loved Kone design remains intact.

Not only that, the Kone Pure’s design was also retained by the legendary German manufacturer, although this time around, they have managed to slim it down to 91% the size of the Kone[+], without sacrificing on performance as additional competition-crushing power has been thrown into the mix.

As for the ultra-sleek Lua, this tri-button mouse is touted to deliver superb combat performance to gamers of all hand sizes, but I do not think that it will be able to do much when it comes to folks who tend to sweat a whole lot. The Kone XTD, Kone Pure and Lua are tipped to arrive on store shelves at the end of October or in early November onwards, retailing for €89.99, €69.99 and €29.99, respectively.

ROCCAT Sense High Precision Gaming Mousepad now comes in Chrome Blue

You know for sure that hardcore gamers take their gaming very, very seriously. Otherwise, they would not be hardcore, would they? Every single bit of performance counts, just like how the high speed and high precision sport of Formula 1 is like. After all, you can never quite tell whether you missed that last money shot simply because your mouse did not register that final flick of your wrist as accurately as you thought it would – only to realize that you were let down by your mouse pad simply because its grooves were all worn out.

Well, if reading the above paragraph actually caused you to have a second look at your mouse pad, only to see that it indeed has grown thinner than it originally was, perhaps it is time to reconsider a new mouse pad. I remember my first “professional” mouse mat from 3M, boy was it ideal to frag my opponents into oblivion, but the extremely low sensitivity setting in my Quake configuration made me run out of space – real fast, leading me to look out for a larger mouse pad. Enter the Chrome Blue version of the ROCCAT Sense High Precision Gaming Mousepad of today.

The Chrome Blue version will feature a revised surface, in addition to more intense colors while measuring all of 2mm high (or should we say, low?). The special microcrystalline coating that was incorporated into the fabric surface is extremely effective at minimizing frictional resistance between the mouse and the pad, hence noticeably improving the gliding capability of mice. Not only that, it works extremely quietly with hardly any noise, allowing your mouse to glide almost silently over the entire ROCCAT mousepad without missing a beat. The ROCCAT Sense Chrome Blue High Precision Gaming Mousepad can be purchased for €19.99 if you are living across the pond, while those living Stateside will end up with the slightly better deal at $19.99 a pop.

The ROCCAT Sense Chrome Blue High Precision Gaming Mousepad measures 400mm x 280mm, making it ideal to perform sweeping mouse movements. Folks like me who have extremely low sensitivity will love this mousepad which sports a rubberized coating for the entire underside, making sure the mouse pad sits perfectly and securely even on smooth surfaces.
