Rockstar Delays Grand Theft Auto V Launch

If you’re one of the legions of Grand Theft Auto fans who has been anxiously waiting for the Spring to roll around for the next game in the franchise, disappointment time is here. Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto V has been delayed.

While the game was originally slated for this Spring, Rockstar has now announced that the game will be available for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 on September 17, 2013. That means you have to go all Summer finding some other way to blow up, shoot up and beat things up.

Rockstar says the significant delay of the game is to allow for more development time – so the game better not be buggy when it finally ships.

Grand Theft Auto V delayed, arriving September 17

Back in October, Rockstar officially announced a “spring 2013” release window for Grand Theft Auto V. However, the company announced today that they’re delaying the game, and will see a solid release date of September 17, 2013. The game will be heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but still no word on PC or Wii U availability.

Rockstar didn’t give a specific reason for the delay other than “to allow additional development time.” The development team apologized for the delay, but said that the extra time needed to polish up the game will be well worth the time for those eagerly waiting. The company says that GTAV “is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”

Rockstar has been teasing us a good amount throughout these past few months, releasing new screenshots of the game what seems like every other day. They give us a good look at what to expect in the new game, and we’re even told that Grand Theft Auto V will feature Rockstar’s largest in-game world that they’ve ever developed.

The game will feature three protagonists, and it takes place in Los Santos, one of the three cities featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The upcoming game should hopefully blow all other past installments out of the water. We really like GTAIV, but we’re hoping for even more with GTAV, considering it will have the largest in-game world to date.

Rockstar reportedly threatened to sue TV show over LA Noire name, Take-Two denies claims

Director and writer Frank Darabont, best known for Green Mile and The Walking Dead TV series, claimed that Rockstar Games threatened to sue him and the TNT network for creating a TV show called LA Noir, which Rockstar thought that was too close for comfort with their video game LA Noire. However, Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar, has denied the claims made my Darabont.

la-noire-gameplay

In an interview with io9, Darabont says that Rockstar “threatened to sue the shit out of [him], TNT, every company that actually ever worked in Hollywood. And they have the billions of dollars to back it up, apparently.” Because of that, Darabont says that he’s changing the title of his new TV show from LA Noir to Lost Angels. The show is set in 1947 Los Angeles, and it will star Jon Bernthal.

While the previous name, setting, and timeframe of the new TV series seems dangerously close to Rockstar’s LA Noire video game, Darabont says that the TV show is based on a novel titled “LA Noir,” and has nothing to do with Rockstar’s game. However, while Darabont claims that he was threatened with a lawsuit, Take-Two said that nothing of the sort happened.

Speaking with Joystiq, the game publishing company claims that they only approached TNT in order to “express concern over confusion between the properties,” but say that they have never approached Darabont. The actions that led Darabont to change the name of the show are completely unrelated, according to Take-Two.

Grand Theft Auto V for PC listed on European Amazon sites

While Rockstar is still considering bringing the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V game to PC, nothing is final just yet, and the new title hasn’t been officially announced for the platform. However, a listing of the game’s PC version has been spotted on several of Amazon‘s European sites, and it’s blatantly obvious that these are PC copies.

Screen Shot 2013-01-21 at 11.18.11 AM copy

The listing quietly popped up on Amazon’s UK, French, and German websites sometime over the weekend. However, none of the listings display the release date of the game, nor the price that you’ll be able to buy it at, although the French listing has a price of €49,99, while the German listing has it for €59,99.

Rockstar has only confirmed Grand Theft Auto V for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but has also suggested that a release for PC and the Wii U are being considered. Granted, all previous Grand Theft Auto installments have been released on PC before, but not until well after the console versions came out. The last major game in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, released on PC in December 2008, which was eight months after its release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Again, Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of the upcoming game, and an Amazon listing is obviously not hard proof that the PC version will even exist, but if we base our predictions on past Grand Theft Auto releases, we can bet that a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is very likely to arrive on store shelves, but maybe not right away.

Welcome to Wednesday evening everyone! We’re back from a brief holiday break and there was plenty of news waiting for us when we returned, so let’s jump into the Wrap-Up. Samsung is expected to ship 500 million smartphones in 2013, while we saw a leaked image of a white BlackBerry X10 handset with a QWERTY keyboard. Apple has a patent on file for a new kind of curved glass, while Microsoft announced that it will soon be opening six new store locations. The POP charger has been given approval by Apple, which means the project is a go once again, and Google said that it plans to take 90% of Microsoft Office’s audience for itself. Rockstar hands out new Grand Theft Auto V shots for the holidays

The gift giving season may be over for many of us, but amid the piles of wrapping paper and boxes, Rockstar had a gift of its own to give. The developer has shared five new Grand Theft Auto V screenshots as a way of saying Happy Holidays to its fans. The images weren’t accompanied by any descriptions – something we’re used to when it comes to Grand Theft Auto V images – so we’ll just have to gawk and see what we can make of them on our own.

GTAV2

The shots are purposefully nondescript, but they do show off a variety of things that will apparently be in the game. These include swimming with sharks, rottwielers riding shotgun in really nice-looking cars, and mini submarines. There’s also a shot featuring a commercial airplane flying alongside a fighter jet with a blimp doing its own thing in the background, so maybe we’ll get the chance to fly these aircraft in the game? One can only hope.

GTAV4

The final shot of the group centers on three men who look like they’re up to no good. Who they are is a mystery, so for now we’re stuck waiting until Rockstar shares more details on their significance (if there is any at all). This is only the latest in a long line of Grand Theft Auto V screenshots that come without any form of description, so fans should be pros at figuring out clues by now.

GTAV1

With a current release window of Q2 2013, Grand Theft Auto V is primed to become one of the biggest games of the year. Depending on what else launches in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V could even become the biggest game of the year, but we have a feeling that the inevitable Call of Duty release will ultimately steal its thunder. Still, its release date is getting ever-closer, so fans of the series have plenty to be excited about.

Five new Grand Theft Auto V screenshots revealed

gta 5 screenshots 12 24 2012 03 640x359 Five new Grand Theft Auto V screenshots revealedWe know that Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V will only see a release in 2013, but until then and perhaps in the spirit of the festive season, Rockstar has decided to release five new screenshots from the game. As you guys know, GTA 5 will be bigger than all of its predecessors, and thanks to these screenshots we are certainly starting to get a much better idea. The graphics also look pretty stunning and we most definitely can’t wait to get our hands on the game upon its release. GTA 5 is currently scheduled for a release on both the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360, and while the GTA franchise has made its way onto the PC in the past, no support for PC has been announced by Rockstar at the moment, leading fans to launch a petition in the hopes that a PC version of the game will be announced in the near future. While we wait for that to happen, we guess we will enjoy these new screenshots in the meantime.

Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer remade using LEGO

The first Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer was released quite a while back, but if you’re a fan of LEGO and you’re wondering what GTA might look like if it were to be made using LEGO parts, the folks at machinima have put together a GTA 5 trailer using LEGO, and according to them, they have attempted to recreate the scenes as faithfully as possible, but we guess you can be the judge of that. It’s pretty cool, not mention pretty cute at the same time which kind of seems to go against the nature of GTA in the first place. In any case if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, you can check it out in the video above, and if you’d like a comparison, you can view the original GTA 5 trailer after the break. What do you guys think? Close enough? (more…)

Rockstar apologizes for GTA: Vice City Android hiccup, hopes to get it out by the end of next week

We’re sure that many Android gamers were looking forward to downloading Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City onto their devices, and while iOS users are probably having a blast with the game, it looks like Android users might have to wait until the next weekend. The game was originally scheduled for a release on the 6th of December for both iOS and Android, but it seems that due to validating errors with the APK, the game was removed from the Google Play store after having been downloaded by a few hundred users. The Google Play page for Vice City now leads to a “Not found” page. Rockstar has since issued an apology, “Hey guys, due to unforeseen technical issues, the Android release of Vice City will be slightly delayed. Our goal is to get this out for Android by the end of next week. Our apologies for the delay to all our fans on Android devices and please stay tuned for updates.”
