Another Cool Star Wars Bedroom Built for Some Lucky Kid

I never got a Star Wars themed room when I was growing up. These days are getting spoiled rotten with AT-ATs in their bedrooms. The joke is on them because when they get older they will not know how to sleep without such nerd trappings. Actually, I’m just jealous.

This bedroom was made by a friend of Reddit contributor mcalis2. It has a Millenium Falcon/X-Wing Fighter bedspread, an AT-AT on the shelf next to a Boba Fett head, a Wampa skin rug, even lightsabers on the wall.

This kid goes to sleep every night dreaming about a galaxy far far away, while the rest of us just listen to our mates snore and wish we had such an awesome bedroom.

Cool Parents Make Super Awesome Super Mario Room for Their Daughter

Here is yet another story about parents who go the extra mile for their kids. In this case, these parents created an awesome Super Mario Bros. themed bedroom for their daughter. The daughter requested it and the parents went well beyond the call of duty in giving it to her.

And they didn’t cheat by using all stickers either. The only stickers are Mario and Bowser. The rest of it was painted by hand. Not too shabby. Redditor carpenter75 estimates that it took about 60 hours painting all those bricks, and the total cost for the project was only about $700(USD). Not bad for bringing a classic game to life.

The room even has sounds from the game and an NES system. Now she truly feels like Princess Peach in her castle.

A dumpster-looking personal fortress of solitude where you can play games in total privacy? Count me in. “The Box” is a custom-built personal gaming chamber for those who have no friends and want none.

It’s for sale on Craigslist in Ohio. It has everything you could ever want in a gaming chamber: surround sound, air conditioning/heat, the smell of your own sweat and urine when you refuse to leave (or get locked in by others) as well as the smell of stale Cheetos and Mountain Dew.

It’s only $2500 (USD). Never be distracted again by “life”. No worries. Girls won’t find you in this thing and you will be doing all of them a favor by living in this thing.

Man Builds Life Size Train Replica in His Basement, Admits He’s off the Rails

We’ve seen plenty of geeky room makeovers in the past months. There was the TARDIS room, the Skyrim basement and the spaceship bedroom. Vaughan, Ontario resident Jason Shron is a train geek – in fact, he makes model trains for a living – so naturally he made a replica of a train car in his basement. Naturally for him I mean.

train replica via rail by jason shron

Jason’s happy place is a replica of a VIA Rail train car from the 80s. According to Global Toronto the exterior of the train is made from drywall, but it’s mostly authentic on the inside. It took him 4-1/2 years to build, and Jason even made fake emergency kits and, on one end of the train, a photo mural depicting a neighboring car to complete the delusion illusion. Shron lucked out with many of the replica’s parts; he got them from an old car that was about to be scrapped.

You can read more about the train at the link and on Jason’s company newsletter. I have a replica of an office space – in fact I’m in it right now – but I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to see it.

See-Through Cocoon Lets You Live in Your Own Little Bubble

Every once in a while, I feel like being alone and that’s one of the times I feel extremely lucky and fortunate that we have a spare room in the house. Not that I’m a loner or anything, but I just like being able to get away from everyone and everything sometimes.

If I didn’t have a spare room to go to, then I’m sure something like the plastic-shelled Cocoon 1 would be totally up my alley. Although the price, not so much.

Cocoon1The Cocoon 1 is a piece of furniture that you can actually live in. It’s like the Cocoon Tent we saw earlier, only it’s made with a tough and clear material–and, well, it’s not a tent.

Cocoon

Designed by Swiss design group Micasa Lab, the Cocoon is cushy and roomy enough to let people sleep, eat, relax, and do whatever they want by their lonesome while they’re in it. The inside of the Cocoon is modular, so it can be configured as a living, working or even a cooking space. You can even get a Wi-Fi module for surfing the web inside of it.

The Cocoon 1 seems like a concept, but it’s actually an actual product that will be arriving sometime in Fall of 2013.

The only downside? The base model is priced at $2,990(USD), and goes up from there.

TARDIS Control Room Looks Awesomer on the Inside

I’ve always wanted to make my own TARDIS console, with the rest of the controls around it, so when I saw this awesome TARDIS control room, it blew me away. Crazyfoalrus (aka Jayman White) did an amazing job creating his own TARDIS-themed room.

It took him a year to build, and that’s probably why it looks so great. You’ll see the fourth Doctor’s coat rack with scarf, a trippy handpainted checkerboard floor, all kinds of gadgets (including a synthesizer keyboard) on the console itself and a really nice column in the middle. The column and the console all light up and are ready for travel through time and space.

I’m not sure when Jayman is taking his first voyage in this thing, but I hope he doesn’t run into any Daleks. Hit this link for more images. Great job, Jayman!

Microsoft Is Allegedly Working on a Windows Phone Group Chat App Called Room [Windows Phone 8]

If you’ve been keeping your eyes on Windows Phone, but have been holding off on switching over until it gets a few more crucial features and/or apps, here’s an interesting rumor: WMPowerUser says that Microsoft is working on a new group chat feature called Room, which apparently works in a similar manner as BlackBerry Instant Messenger or the group message feature in Apple’s iMessage.
