Sony Xperia Z2 Rooted Ahead Of Its Release

Sony Xperia Z2 Rooted Ahead Of Its ReleaseIf you’re planning on getting your hands on the brand new Sony Xperia Z2 when it is released (it has been reportedly delayed), you might be interested to learn that the handset has been rooted and has even received ClockworkMod-based Recovery even before the handset has been officially released!

The root is courtesy of XDA’s DooMLorD who has in the past been pretty instrumental when it comes to various mods and tweaks related to Sony’s Xperia handsets. The Touch Recovery is said to be based on ClockwokMod version 6.0.4.6 and will require users to unlock the bootloaders of their phones. (more…)

CyanogenMod Nightlies Adds Business/People Search In Dialer App

CyanogenMod Nightlies Adds Business/People Search In Dialer AppOne of the interesting and handy features of Android 4.4 KitKat is the ability to search for people or businesses in the dialer app. For example if you wanted to call a particular restaurant to make a booking but you don’t have their number, you could try searching for it in the dialer app as opposed to having to fire up your browser and perform a search.

This could potentially cut down the time spent searching for phone numbers and is pretty handy, since a business’s name will also show up in the caller ID, letting you know who is calling. The good news is that if you don’t have Android 4.4 KitKat but would like that feature, the folks at CyanogenMod will be adding that feature into their latest nightlies. (more…)

Nokia X Rooted, Google Apps Installed

Nokia X Rooted, Google Apps InstalledWhen Nokia first unveiled the Nokia X and its forked version of Android, we were immediately reminded of Amazon. Not because they shared similar traits or design, but the fact that it would be possible to flash a custom ROM onto it, root, and basically take away the forked version of Android and eventually replace it with something more familiar.

That being said, it seems that whatever we mentioned above is well underway as reports have claimed that the developer units of the Nokia X have since been rooted. What this means is that developers who have the phone will be able to install and add other apps onto the system that they previously couldn’t, like Google’s services. (more…)

Future CyanogenMod ROMs Will Include Screen Recording Feature

Future CyanogenMod ROMs Will Include Screen Recording FeatureWhile Android OEMs try to introduce new features and whatnot with their own modified versions of Android, for the most part they end up pretty laggy and are usually features that most users would be happy to do away with, hence the demand for custom ROMs like CyanogenMod that bring features to Android smartphones that the creators feel are more useful for Android users. In any case if you’re the sort of person who likes to create tutorial videos or do app reviews and whatnot, you might be interested to learn that future CyanogenMod ROMs will include a screen recording feature.

For those unfamiliar, screen recording is basically like an extended screenshot whereby the actions of the user will be recorded in video format which is great for creating tutorial videos, walkthroughs, and etc. Apart from such uses, the screen recording feature can also be used to detail bugs on the phone that will help make it more understandable to developers as well. The feature can be toggled by the volume up + power button key combinations, but it will only be available in future nightlies of the ROM. We’re not sure if Google will eventually include such a feature in future versions of Android, but for users of CyanogenMod, this will be a feature you guys can look forward to.
