LaCie introduces RuggedKey USB 3.0 flash drive capable of withstanding 100m drops

We’re not sure under what circumstances you might need a rugged USB flash drive, but assuming you do, then perhaps LaCie’s RuggedKey USB 3.0 keychain flash drive might be worth taking a look at. It will come in either 16GB or 32GB storage capacities and will be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.0 ports. It will also come with a removable orange sleeve that will protect the steel drive and if you’re wondering just how tough this little USB drive is, LaCie claims that it will be able to withstand a drop of up to 100 meters and to prove that, the company has enlisted some skydivers to put their claims to the test. Based on the video, the drive certainly managed to withstand a drop although since the video was edited and cut, there’s no way of proving it is the same drive but the video itself is still pretty entertaining either way. In any case, if you’re interested in getting your hands on the LaCie RuggedKey USB 3.0 flash drives, the 16GB version will cost you $39.99 while the 32GB version will retail for $69.99 and are available via LaCie’s online store.
