Standalone Samsung Smartwatch Rumored For This Summer

Standalone Samsung Smartwatch Rumored For This SummerSamsung has several smartwatches in the market already. This includes the original Galaxy Gear, the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and the Gear Fit. However if there is one disadvantage to these devices is that they require it to be paired with a smartphone in order to unlock some of its features and functionalities.

Well recently a report from the Wall Street Journal has “confirmed” that another Samsung smartwatch is on its way, and that this time round, the device in question is a standalone device and will pack its own SIM card. This means that it might not necessarily have to be paired with your phone for it to work.

No word on when Samsung plans on officially announcing the device, but the rumors are suggesting that it could be revealed as early as this summer, so that’s worth keeping an eye out for. In fact it was just last month that Samsung could have an Android Wear smartwatch that could be released in the coming months.

We’re not sure if that is the same device as the one the Wall Street Journal is reporting, or if it is another device entirely. Features of Samsung’s alleged standalone watch also remain unknown, but presumably it will share the features of the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, like a heart rate monitor, pedometer, and so on. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us at a later date for the details. In the meantime how do you guys feel about a standalone smartwatch?

Sony A99 To Be Discontinued This Summer [Rumor]

Sony A99 To Be Discontinued This Summer [Rumor]The Sony A99 was announced back in 2012 and is one of Sony’s more high-end DSLR cameras. It is certainly a beast with its specs but according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, it seems that the Sony A99 could be discontinued soon. This is according to one of their sources who tipped them off to the possibility that the Sony A99 could be discontinued this summer.

Sony has yet to make any official announcements and as it stands, the Sony A99 is still available for purchase via your usual retailers, so it looks like the camera is still around and available for purchase, at least for now. Their source goes on to inform them that there is a possibility that the Sony A99 will be getting a successor, although no word on what kind of specs we might be looking at.

Like we said, nothing official from Sony yet so do take it with a grain of salt, but if you liked what the A99 brought to the table and were hoping that Sony would release a successor with better specs and improved functions and features, perhaps we will learn more in the coming weeks or months, so be sure to check back with us then to see if there are any additional details that can be had.

Nokia Rise Could Be T-Mobile’s Lumia 530 [Rumor]

Nokia Rise Could Be T Mobiles Lumia 530 [Rumor]Is Nokia working on a successor to the Lumia 520? Presumably that is the case, unless they were planning on having the low-end market dominated by phones like the Moto G and the Moto E. That being said, it was just last week that we caught wind that Nokia could be working on a successor to the Lumia 520 in the form of the Lumia 530.

Now according to a post by @evleaks, word on the street has it that the handset could be making its way stateside and onto T-Mobile’s network where it could be known as the Nokia Rise. We’re not sure if the Nokia Rise name is a codename or if it will be the name of the handset when it launches.

After all with devices like the Nokia Lumia Icon, we don’t see the handset couldn’t be known as the Nokia Rise. Unfortunately @evleaks did not mention as to when we might be able to look forward to the handset, but with information about the device starting to leak on a more frequent basis, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out more.

Based on the specs of the handset that we saw in benchmarks, the Lumia 530 is expected to pack an 800×480 display. It will also come with an Adreno 305 GPU. It’s not much to go on right now, but hopefully more will be revealed in the near future, so check back with us for updates then.

Alleged iPhone 6 LCD Backlight Gets Photographed

Alleged iPhone 6 LCD Backlight Gets PhotographedSo far what we’ve seen about the iPhone 6 is mostly its outershell. Those leaks were spotted in leaked photos that are supposedly based on leaked schematics, and have also been used by case manufacturers to test their cases on, so there’s no telling how true or accurate those leaked photos are.

However today we got a new leak, this time a component of the iPhone 6 that comes in the form of the LCD backlight. The photos were posted on the folks at French website, Nowhereelse.fr and based on what we can see in the photos, it appears that it does share some similar traits to the iPhone 5s’ LCD backlight, namely in the design and the connection.

Although we should note that the connecter for the iPhone 6 has been moved slightly towards the left ,and the connecting pins also appears to be different, but we’re not sure if there is any significance to this. The image we can see above is also allegedly that of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, although there’s no way of telling just from the photo alone, although it does look bigger.

In any case do take it with a grain of salt for now, but this is one of the first few inner components of the iPhone 6 that we’ve come across so far, so hopefully additional photos will surface that can further help us determine some of the specs of the upcoming handset.

Rumors of Tango Tablet from Google

ATAP Project Tango from GoogleSources in the know have reports that Google is planning to release a 7″ Tang-enabled table in the next couple of months. This tablet would be a larger scale version of the Tango released back in February, equipped to identify and track objects as three dimensional objects in your environment.

Project Tango is part of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group and is creating the devices to bring our real 3D world to our mobile devices instead of the device only understanding the limits of its screen. The possibilities might seem a little narrow at first but it will be interesting to see what it opens. Google provides some example uses such as immediately finding the product you are looking for when you enter a store, helping someone who is visually impaired or having a more interactive game with your real, dynamic environment.

Currently the Tango phone prototype is not publicly available and in the hands of developers, so it is likely that the table will be limited as well.

Second Windows 8.1 Major Update To Arrive In August (Rumor)

Second Windows 8.1 Major Update To Arrive In August (Rumor)While Windows 8.1 saw its first major update roll out last week, word on the street has it that this will not be the last, as the second has been rumored to make its way to the masses later this coming August. ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley claimed that her sources do point to a second major update for Windows 8.1 that will arrive then, being part of Microsoft’s efforts to speed up the release cycle for its flagship operating system.

It remains to be seen whether the second major update to Windows 8.1 will also include the refreshed Start menu, although there are indications that this would seem rather likely. Recently, whispers have been going around, touting that the Start menu itself will make a return before the year is over. What it will most likely not come with, however, would be the ability for Windows 8.1 to run Metro apps windowed on the desktop.

The windowed Metro apps might make its way to the masses when Windows 9 rolls around, which has been targeted for an early 2015 release. It does seem as though the upcoming updates are part of Microsoft’s efforts to be able to better distinguish between PC and tablet users. As with all rumors out there, we will take this with a pinch of salt and wait as time will reveal this to be true or a dud.

5.5-inch iPhone Delayed To 2015 [Rumor]

5.5 inch iPhone Delayed To 2015 [Rumor]So according to the rumors, word has it that Apple is looking to launch two new iPhones later this year. There will allegedly be a 4.7-inch model and 5.5-inch model, although last we checked the 5.5-inch model could be delayed until the end of the year while the 4.7-inch model will launch around the same time that Apple typically launches their iPhones.

However according to a new report from Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times, it has been suggested that the 5.5-inch model has been delayed even further and could see a release in 2015 instead. This is apparently due to Apple struggling to find a battery that will fit its design and provide sufficient battery life at the same time.

Now it is no secret that larger and brighter displays will consume more battery power, so obviously a battery powering a 4.7-inch display will most likely have a shorter life if it were to power a larger 5.5-inch display. Bigger batteries are not an issue but to have it fit inside the next-gen iPhone, which we can only imagine will be slimmer than its predecessor, might prove to be difficult.

In any case we have to wonder if the rumors are true, will Apple not announce the larger iPhone later this year and save it for next? Or will they announce it anyway and make it available later? After all we can only imagine iPhone users will be extremely miffed if they plonked out money for a 4.7-inch model only to find out that there’s a 5.5-inch model that will launch a few months later, right?

HTC One M8 Mini Rumored For Verizon Release

HTC One M8 Mini Rumored For Verizon ReleaseIt does seem to be the prevailing trend these days, where smartphone companies come up with a “mini” version of their respective flagship handsets instead of calling it by a totally different device name altogether.

I would suppose that this has something to do with not having to spend that much more money to market a new product name – just shrink down the existing design somewhat, remove or dumb down some features here and there, and voila! You have got a mini version of the current smartphone.

The alleged HTC One M8 mini is touted to roll out in Europe and Asia later this May, but what about those of us living Stateside? @evleaks has shared that the “HTC One M8 mini” is indeed “going to Verizon” via Twitter.

It makes some sense, really, considering how Verizon is already selling the original HTC One M8 that has picked up its fair share of bouquets ever since it rolled out.

As for the rumored hardware specifications, the HTC One M8 mini ought to be a mid-range smartphone that has a 4.5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.0 UI, a 13MP rear camera, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor at 1.7GHz, 1GB RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime Spotted In Manifest (Rumor)

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime Spotted In Manifest (Rumor)When you roll out a successful device that comes jam packed with the latest and greatest hardware, such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 (as you can see above), does it make sense then to begin tweaking on this particular template so that a variant, or variants, will be released? The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime has been seen on a shipping manifest in India which is yet another rather strong hint of the upcoming smartphone’s reveal. This particular manifest that leaked out the information did not reveal anything more other than the model number SM-G906K, and it seems to be on its way to India from South Korea “R&D Purpose”, with Samsung shipping three of these devices in total.

Of course, it takes perfect sense to see this with a pinch of salt, since anyone can come up with a leak, and such a document is not that difficult to forge. Still, this happens to be one of the more concrete and strong hints that we have come across to date, where the Galaxy S5 Prime ought to arrive in an all metal body that is accompanied by superior grade hardware including an eye watering 2K resolution display, 3GB RAM, a speedy Snapdragon 805 chipset, 32GB of internal memory and the likes.
