Samsung Galaxy S4 Could Be Shown Off At CES 2013, But Only For Executives To See [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S4 Could Be Shown Off At CES 2013, But Only For Executives To See [Rumor]So we know that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will not be debuting at CES 2013, and a recent confirmation by Samsung has suggested that the earliest we could see the Galaxy S4 would be after May 2013, but this does not mean that the South Korean company will not be shopping the handset around to some of their partners and carriers. Yup it seems that according to reports, word has it that Samsung will actually be bringing the Galaxy S4 with them to CES 2013, but unfortunately the handset will be restricted to the company’s high-profile partners and certain carriers, and that Samsung Electronics’ vice president Jay Lee will be the one who will be showing the device off.

Unsurprisingly it seems that the demonstration of the Galaxy S4 will be done behind closed doors and under very tight security to ensure that nothing is leaked ahead of its release. The report has also suggested that the device Samsung is bringing may not be the final design of the handset, but rather a prototype with some of the rumored hardware which Samsung will be using to provide its partners and carriers with information about the device before decisions are made. Assuming this report is to be believed, it would make sense that the earlier alleged leaked Galaxy S4 press shot might only be a photo of the prototype, rather than its final design.

Apple’s Rumored Pandora-equivalent Radio Service Predicted For 2013 Announcement

Apple sign logo110712125041 Apples Rumored Pandora equivalent Radio Service Predicted For 2013 AnnouncementBack in October of 2012, it was rumored that Apple could be interested in launching an online radio service of their own, tentatively dubbed iRadio. Considering Apple’s success with iTunes, expanding their music offerings in the form of an online streaming service similar to Pandora might not be a stretch of the imagination and according to BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield, he predicts that 2013 could be the year that Apple actually launches this service. Greenfield claims that Apple is currently negotiating with music labels on song catalogs and that it will most likely see iTunes and iOS integration. No specific dates were given with regards to this rumored “iRadio” service, but considering that WWDC is usually the time of the year that Apple uses to introduce new products, such as iOS upgrades, computer refreshes and such, we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple took that opportunity to announce such a service, assuming it even exists of course. However until we hear and see the announcement for ourselves, we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt and suggest you do the same, but what do you guys think?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Press Image Spotted

samsung galaxy s4 Samsung Galaxy S4 Press Image SpottedNow that CES is just around the corner, you know for sure that there are bound to be plenty of official press releases as well as rumors thrown into the mix where the consumer electronics industry is concerned. The Samsung Galaxy S4, unfortunately, would fall under the rumor segment, as it does not seem too likely to be announced officially. Apparently, an alleged press image of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has surfaced, although there is no way to verify that the above image is real.

The alleged Samsung Galaxy S4’s device does seem to resemble the Galaxy S3 (which would be natural) and also the Galaxy Premier, which also adds to the overall authenticity of the device. The lack of a home button as well as thinner bezel around the device makes it future forward. Well, as with the case of most rumors, we would strongly advise you to take this with a rather large pinch of salt as you can never quite tell what is real or not until an official statement is released. Perhaps it is just a “feeler” image released by Samsung on purpose to gauge potential reaction?

LG Optimus G2 rumored for CES 2013

By now, it’s obvious that LG will be unveiling something at CES this year, but as far as what they have up their sleeve is still a mystery. The company released a new YouTube video that teases their upcoming press conference at CES 2013, and they provide a very quick and vague look at their upcoming smartphone, which could possibly be the Optimus G2.

Screen Shot 2013-01-03 at 4.21.47 PM

We’ve already heard about the successor to LG’s Optimus G, rumored to sport a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a new Snapdragon S4 “Prime” quad-core processor clocked at 2.0 – 2.5GHz — somewhere in that range. And from the teasing in the LG video, it’s our guess that the company is planning such a phone for a CES 2013 reveal.

However, the image above is about the best look that you’ll get so far of the rumored device, but it doesn’t really look like much anyway. The 0:17 second mark is where you’ll want to look in the video in case you want to see it for yourself. Then right after that, we see some sort of appliance, which isn’t a huge surprise, since LG will most likely unveil more than just a smartphone at next week’s event.

We’ve heard rumors in the past about a possible 5-inch and 5.5-inch LG superphone in the works. Both of them are said to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, quad-core processors, 13 MP cameras, and maybe even 3GB of RAM. Of course, CES is only days away, so it’ll only be a matter of time before we see what LG has planned.

Sony NEX-7m Rumored To Be The NEX-7′s Successor

sony nex 7 Sony NEX 7m Rumored To Be The NEX 7s SuccessorThe Sony NEX-7 is a pretty amazing camera for its size, not to mention the quality of photos that it manages to capture, but if you thought that there is still some room for improvement, the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors have received a tip from an anonymous source claiming that the successor to the NEX-7 is called the NEX-7m. The exact specs of the alleged NEX-7m remain unknown, but assuming the source is to be believed, some of the improvements include increased max shutter speed, enhanced NR and ISO range just to name a few. Hopefully there will be more details available, but until then we suggest you take this rumor with a grain of salt for now, but be sure to check back with us at a later date for the details.

While Sony might have been late to the game with DSLRs, they certainly made up for lost time by introducing their range of mirrorless cameras before camera behemoths such as Canon and Nikon. The NEX-7 currently sits at the top of Sony’s mirrorless camera range with a price tag to match. There are probably DSLR cameras that one could get for the price of a NEX-7, but if you’re in the market for something compact that could potentially fit into your pocket, then the NEX-7 would definitely be a camera to consider.

Apple To Deliver 802.11ac Compatibility To Upcoming Macs [Rumor]

Apple To Deliver 802.11ac Compatibility To Upcoming Macs [Rumor]

It’s safe to say if you’re reading this post, you’re using a device with a wireless connection as the days of wired connections are slowly going off into the sunset. Sure, wired connections are more reliable, secure and faster than wireless, but if today’s rumor turns out to be true, we can be sure speed won’t be a deciding factor when deciding between wired and wireless connections.

According to sources familiar with Apple’s plans for their upcoming Macs, the company has made a deal with Broadcom to supply chipsets compatible with 802.11ac.

If you’re unfamiliar with 802.11ac, think 802.11n’s 450Mbps speeds with only a single antennae where the 802.11n requires three. If routers begin supporting 802.11ac, it’s possible speeds of 1.3Gbps can be achieved within a home network if the router is equipped with three antennas.

As of now, Broadcom is one of a handful of chip makers who are able to provide chipsets with 802.11ac support. Hopefully if this rumor turns out to be true, we can probably expect a wider adoption of 802.11ac, which means faster wireless speeds in the coming years.

HTC M7 flagship handset tipped for CES 2013

We’ve already heard a handful of rumors about HTC‘s upcoming flagship device, the M7, and today we’re hearing more buzz that the device will make an appearance at CES 2013 next week. Previously, we heard that the upcoming phone was going to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February, so we’re definitely not complaining about the opportunity to meet the new device sooner.

htc-580x435

The rumor comes from XDA member Football, who revealed some of the details on Twitter, and has been a reliable source for past HTC rumors as well. Aside from being announced at CES 2013, Football suggests that the M7 “might have screen buttons instead of hardware touch buttons,” which would definitely see HTC going in a different direction than past devices.

Other than that, though, the M7 should be quite the robust machine. We’re looking at a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, a 13MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, Beats Audio, and a 2,300mAh battery.

We’re not sure if “M7″ will be the phone’s actual name or not, but we’re guessing it’s simply just a codename for the time being, since “M7″ doesn’t really sound like the name of an HTC device. Either way, we’ll keep our eyes peeled at CES next week and see if HTC has anything special up their sleeves during the event.

Apple rumored to partner with Broadcom for 802.11ac WiFi in 2013 Macs

Apple’s next update for its Mac lineup will obviously include a few welcome upgrades, but it’s rumored that Apple has struck a deal with wireless chip firm Broadcom in order to bring high-speed 802.11ac 5G “Gigabit WiFi” to future Macs later this year. If true, the new WiFi chips will provide a much-needed boost in networking for the 2013 Macs.

imac-2012-21-SlashGear--575x500

802.11ac offers faster throughput, higher capacity, wider coverage, and improved power efficiency. Products offering 802.11n connectivity (found in most consumer electronics, and is the current standard) provide connections up to 450Mbps, while 802.11ac equivalents start at 450Mbps and are capable of almost tripling its predecessor with 1.3Gbps.

Broadcom is currently just one out of a small number of chip makers currently providing 802.11ac chipsets, which are aimed at the smartphone, tablet, and router markets. Some manufacturers have introduced 802.11ac networking in notebooks recently, but large-scale notebook support is still ultimately lacking.

According to anonymous sources, the 802.11ac WiFi chip is still in development, so it’s actually not really a thing yet, but it’s said that if everything goes according to schedule, the new chips should be ready in time to be put in the new line of Mac computers later this year.
