HTC M7 Rumored

Not actual M7 photo, but you get the idea…

HTC did seem as though they are on the mend, as their recent smartphone releases have helped them arrest a downward slide. Well, the latest rumor to surround products from this Taiwan-based firm would be the HTC M7, which has been touted to make its way to the US market sometime in the first quarter of next year. Apparently, the HTC M7 is a high end device which is said to go up head to head against the Samsung Galaxy S4 – yet another unreleased handset as well, which will be the flagship device for Samsung assuming it is released then.

Rumors surrounding the HTC M7 point toward a 5” Full HD display which will be similar in nature to that of the Droid DNA (or J Butterfly), and with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor running underneath the hood, it should not have any troubles making the cut when you throw a whole lot of work at it. The aluminum unibody case will also most probably boast of guaranteed LTE capabilities and a 13-megapixel camera at the back, but do stay tuned for an official word from HTC instead of relying on just rumors.

Samsung GT-N5100 benchmark sighting suggests a 7″ Galaxy Note could be in the works

With a 5.3”, 5.5” and a 10.1” series of Galaxy Notes under their belt, it wouldn’t be ludicrous to think that Samsung might be considering a 7” version as well. Thanks to a recently spotted benchmark, that may very well be the case. According to the NenaMark Benchmark, a certain Samsung GT-N5100 device was spotted which some have speculated could be a 7” Galaxy Note device. Based on the benchmark, the GT-N5100 is expected to feature a 720p HD display resolution, an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor under the hood clocked at 1.6GHz, a Mali-400MP GPU and it will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Assuming this version of the Galaxy Note will feature S-Pen support, it could appeal to customers who want a happy middle between a 10.1” tablet and a 5.5” phone. No word on if and when Samsung could be announcing this alleged 7” Galaxy Note, but with CES and MWC taking place early next year, an announcement at either event could be a possibility. What do you guys think? Would a 7” Galaxy Note be of interest to you?

Sony could introduce cheap quad-core smartphones in 2013 [Rumor]

In case you weren’t aware of this, current Sony Android smartphones are powered by dual-core chipsets, while their competitors such as HTC and Samsung have introduced quad-core smartphones as early as MWC this year. The good news is that if you are looking forward to a quad-core Sony smartphone, come 2013 your wish may come true. While there are rumors of a certain Sony “Odin” handset with a quad-core chipset along with some pretty impressive hardware, word on the street has it that Sony could also be looking at releasing cheap and affordable smartphones in 2013 that will also be quad-core powered. Apple reportedly hiring former Texas Instruments engineers in Israel

Most of you guys have probably heard that Texas Instruments will be reducing their focus on the mobile processor game, instead choosing to focus their efforts on other sectors instead such as automobile and the industrial. With this move, the company announced that they would be cutting about 1,700 jobs worldwide in a bid to save some money during the transition – so what will happen to some of the staff? If the rumors are to be believed, Apple could be picking up some of Texas Instruments’ former engineers, particularly those from Israel.

According to a report by The Next Web, Apple is said to have hired dozens of engineers from the company’s Ra’anana development center, and interestingly it seems that these engineers were the same ones who worked on the company’s OMAP and radio chips that have been used in several smartphones and tablets, such as the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It is expected that these engineers will probably start working at Apple’s new research and development center in Haifa, presumably to help with Apple’s R&D on their AX chipsets.

Apple said to have turned to Intel for manufacturing of their mobile chipsets [Rumor]

apple_loves_intelThe relationship between Samsung and Apple can hardly be called good, what with the lawsuits between both companies. However with Samsung manufacturing parts Apple needs for their products, such as their AX chips used in Apple’s iOS products, rumor has it that Apple is looking to reduce reliance on Samsung and if a recent report by RBC Capital analyst Doug Freedman is to be believed, it seems that Apple could be taking their business to Intel, who might be one of the few chip manufacturers in the world who have the resources and ability to manufacture the quantity that Apple demands. Samsung rumored to have a bunch of new devices in the works

It looks like either come CES 2013 or MWC 2013, Samsung will have several new devices to show off to the world. According to the folks at SamMobile, they have received several tips on some upcoming Samsung devices which presumably will only debut next year. These new devices include a handset which has been dubbed Project J, a basic version of the Galaxy Note 2, and a 13.3” tablet that is said to give the ASUS Transformer a run for its money. (more…)

HTC Titan III hinted in Xbox Live Rewards Survey

With two iterations of the HTC Titan series, we wouldn’t be surprised if a HTC Titan III was in the works and that might have been confirmed by Microsoft. In a recent Xbox Live Rewards survey, it was asked of customers how excited they would be if they were to receive the following smartphones as a gift – the iPhone 5, Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD, Nokia Lumia 920, the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC Titan III. As you can see in the screenshot above, it clearly states the III, not the II. Of course there is the possibility that whoever wrote the survey might have made a typo and added the extra “I”, but rumors awhile back indicated that HTC had a 4.7” WP in the works under the codename “Zenith” which apparently never made it out of the cutting room.

Perhaps HTC went back to the board with the handset, or like we said before, it could be a mere typo, but with CES 2013 in a month’s time and MWC 2013 to follow the month after, we wouldn’t be surprised if HTC had something up their sleeves. However with the release of the HTC Windows Phone 8X which is presumably HTC’s flagship WP8 handset, would the Titan III steal the spotlight away from it? We won’t read too much into this for now, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled nonetheless, so check back with us later for the details!

Rumor: Facebook could be interested in acquiring WhatsApp

If you see someone with a smartphone, there is a good chance that they might have WhatsApp installed. After all while the app itself might be a paid app (for iOS it requires an upfront payment), it allows users to send messages to friends and family all over the world for free, hold group conversations and exchange various media as long as an internet connection is available. Plus with a report by WhatsApp back in October of 2011 that they are serving 1 billion messages a day, it just seems like a recipe for monetization, and with Facebook having acquired Instagram not too long ago, could WhatsApp be next on their list? Microsoft Surface 2, Surface Pro 2 And Surface Book In The Pipeline?

Boy, nearly 24 hours after the dust has settled on Microsoft announcing the pricing details of the Surface Pro (which does not come cheap at all, mind you), and here we are with rumors that Microsoft is already working on a sequel to the Surface, in addition to having plans for a Surface Pro 2 and Surface Book, where all three of those devices are meant to be ready for a 2013 release. Yeah, that’s what I thought too, and needed to hold the rails of my working chair before I collapsed out of sheer shock.

Don’t you think that having a sequel to the mentioned devices is just way too soon? After all, the Microsoft Surface that runs on the Windows RT platform hit the market for only a few weeks until now, and the Surface Pro tablet has yet to be commercially available. One thing that is interesting to take note of, however, would be the Surface Book idea – just what kind of ecosystem will the Surface Book survive in? Only time will tell, and hopefully these rumors can be squashed or confirmed as soon as possible so that folks are better able to make a more informed purchase decision.
