NVIDIA rumored to debut Tegra-4 at CES 2013

NVIDIA logoIt was rumored yesterday that Samsung’s Galaxy S4 could feature an Exynos 5450 processor clocked at a whopping 2.0GHz. Given that NVIDIA has a stake in the mobile market as well with their Tegra processors, unsurprisingly it looks like the company might be stepping their game up and come CES 2013, rumor has it that NVIDIA will be taking the wraps off Tegra-4, which has also been given the codename “Wayne”. According to the rumors, Tegra-4 will be a quad-core chipset that is based on the Cortex A15 architecture, much like Samsung’s Exynos 5450, although it seems to be clocked slightly slower at 1.8GHz.

Reports have suggested that this particular Tegra-4 chip will be used to power tablets and possibly netbooks, although an updated model called the T43 will bump the clock speed to 2.0GHz. No word on whether we will be seeing the Tegra-4 incorporated into handsets, but assuming these rumors are true, we guess we will be finding out at CES 2013. Until then we suggest taking it with a grain of salt for now.

Samsung Galaxy S4 rumored to use Exynos 5450 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.0GHz

It might be a little early to start the Samsung Galaxy S4 rumors, but given the popularity of the Galaxy S3 and the powerful specs that it has packed under its hood, we guess there are many out there who are eager to see just how the Galaxy S4 will be able to top it. Well according to reports (via DDaily.kr), it has been suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be packing an Exynos 5450 processor under its hood. It has been suggested that the Exynos 5450 processor will be based on the Cortex A15 architecture and will be clocked at a whopping 2.0GHz.

For those unfamiliar, the Galaxy S3 features Samsung’s Exynos 4412 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. While this is pretty fast in its own right, it is however based on the Cortex A9 architecture, which means on paper we can expect the A15 to be a much better option. Of course this is merely a rumor for now and should be taken with a grain of salt, but at the same time given the speed at which our smartphones and tablets are improving, we wouldn’t be surprised if this rumor pans out. We’ll keep our eyes peeled anyway but in the meantime, what do you guys make of this?

Nikkei, Reuters claim Panasonic may quit European cellphones after its second bruising

Panasonic Eluga underwater

Once bitten, twice shy. Panasonic backed out of the European cellphone market in 2005 and gave it a second chance with its Eluga smartphone this spring, but both Nikkei and Reuters hear that the company is already considering its second withdrawal. A tough economy and a presently successful cost-cutting initiative (not to mention an uninspiring product, if we’re honest) could have Panasonic exiting Europe before its fiscal year winds down at the end of March. Of the two as yet unconfirmed sources, Nikkei is going even further — it believes that Panasonic is considering either a partnership to justify its Japanese business or else waving goodbye to cellphones altogether. Nothing’s certain until Panasonic says so. If there’s any truth to the story, though, we could see one more casualty in a rapidly thinning smartphone market.

Warner Bros. to ditch 28-day release delay for rental stores?

Warner Bros. may have doubled its 28-day embargo on new releases for kiosk operators (even if they side-step it), but endangered bricks-and-mortar rental stores could be treated to the exact opposite. A rumor coming from Home Media Magazine’s unnamed sources suggests the WB is going to ditch the embargo for these locations altogether, starting on October 30th. We have no idea why this break would be offered to the relic stores, although we doubt they care if it gets a few more bodies through the door. Warner Bros. has a recent habit of quiet implementation, but just to be sure, we’ve reached out for confirmation and will update you if-and-when we hear more.

Motorola Droid RAZR X and Motorola Nexus rumored to be in the works

There have been plenty of rumors in the past that suggests that there could be multiple Nexus handsets launching this year, although so far based on the leaks, only LG’s Nexus 4 handset has been pictured. Word has it that other manufacturers like Sony and Motorola are possible candidates as well, and thanks to a post on the Droid Forums, a certain Motorola Nexus has been outed, along with an unknown Motorola handset called the Droid RAZR X. Basically the post was about the timeframe in which some of Motorola’s Android handsets would receive the Android 4.2 update, which some believe could be the next iteration of Android known as Key Lime Pie.

Given that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was released not too long ago, it seems unlikely that a major revision of Android could be launched so soon, but we guess we will have to wait until the 29th of October to get the official details. In any case we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now – after all the Sony Nexus “leaked” photo turned out to be a hoax, so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if this turned out to be a dud too. Either way with only 4 days to go, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out, so stay tuned!
