This is interesting. MacRumors reports that an iOS developer found a new, unknown iPad device showing up in his app analytics. Though that usually means the next version of the iPad, the unknown iPad actually had the same footprint as the current iPad 3—but with the faster processor of the iPhone 5. Hmm… More »
Earlier today we reported that thanks to an alleged hands-on report, it seems that LG could be the manufacturer of the next Nexus handset. However if earlier rumors of multiple Nexus manufacturers are to be believed, LG might not be the only one, and now thanks to a report by the folks at Digitimes, it seems that they are corroborating those rumors by stating that Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC are in line to release Nexus-branded handsets. Next Nexus device could be an LG Optimus handset according to alleged hands-on report
Posted in: Today's ChiliWord on the street is that LG’s Optimus G is a possible contender to be the next generation Google Nexus device. Alternatively there are rumors which also suggests that there could be multiple Nexus devices this year from a variety of manufacturers. That being said, the folks at Android and Me have gotten a tip from one of their sources who allegedly managed to get their hands on the LG Nexus handset. Unfortunately there are no photos available although according to the description that their source gave, it does not seem that like the phone he/she described is the Optimus G. (more…)

Hmmm, the rumor mill does seem to go into overdrive where the Android world is concerned, and here we are with word that a new version of Android, Android 4.2 is due to arrive sometime next month. Not only that, the device that will have the honor of running Android 4.2 right out of the box would be the LG Optimus G Nexus, and said rumors also pointed towards a joint event being held by Google and LG, where the latter will then make the announcement for the new device.
This will definitely jive in with other rumors surrounding how Google is working to recalibrate their Nexus brand name to include more hardware manufacturers, not to mention the Nexus 7 family to go beyond just tablets alone, but rather, to cater for smartphones in the process as well.
As for just what Android 4.2 will bring, this is nothing major, but rather, will be a minor update to Jelly Bean. After all, there are already whispers of Android 5.0 floating around, citing that the next major Android revision will happen in autumn next year.

The other day the alleged iPad mini was spotted and if you’re still not fully convinced that the device truly exists, it looks like more iPad mini components have surfaced. This time around it is the headphone jack of the device. The headphones jack components are shown in black and white, suggesting rather unsurprisingly that the iPad mini will be offered in either black or white. There’s really nothing new to these headphone components but we guess it just adds on to the belief that we could be seeing the tablet launch in the near future.
Rumor has it that the iPad mini will be announced on the 10th of October, although with no invites being sent out yet and with less than a week to go, it seems like Apple could be pushing the envelope on this one. It has also been reported that apparently due to low yield rates on the anodized aluminum chassis used, it might affect the shipping of the iPad mini as well. Once again these are merely rumors but considering that the iPhone 5 leaks and rumors were pretty spot on this year without anyone having to lose their phone at the bar, perhaps these iPad mini leaks and rumors might be spot on as well. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled, so check back with us at a later date for more updates.

iPad mini shipments rumored to be affected due to low yield rates on aluminum chassis
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe folks at the Wall Street Journal claimed yesterday that the iPad mini was in mass production. Assuming their report was accurate and the rumors of the 10th of October announcement is true, we guess it would make perfect sense. However the folks at Digitimes are claiming that the iPad mini could be facing shipment problems due to the low yield rates from Apple’s chassis makers. Apparently this is due to the anodized aluminum used (similar to the iPhone 5) and interestingly their report states that the iPad mini will come in a native finish, or a black one.
The black one is said to be the problem child, claiming that the “anodized finish process on the black cases is more critical, which often results in lower yield rates.” This is interesting in a few different ways because the iPad has typically been offered in two different colors – black or white, although those color options affect the front of the device and not its back. Assuming this report is to be believed, we could be seeing the iPad mini offered in a different look compared to its larger iPad sibling. Either way since nothing official has been announced, we suggest taking this information with a grain of salt for the time being.

It is no secret that many iOS users out there are wishing that the Google Maps app was still available on their device as Apple’s take on a Maps app left much to be desired. The bad news is that based on what everyone is saying at the moment, it will take Apple a while to fix the Maps app as they will need to play catchup with Google in terms of the data the search giant has managed to accumulate over the years. However according to the rumors, in the meantime it has been suggested that Apple has turned to their retail store employees and have asked them to help improve Maps for iOS.
So how will they go about this? Apparently this improvement will be done manually and if the reports are to be believed, stores selected to participate in this improvement will dedicate about 40 hours a week whereby retail store employees will manually check and verify the accuracy of Maps, and any errors or improvements discovered will then be turned over to Apple which we assume they will then include as an update. We’re not sure if this is such a great idea as there is just too much ground to cover, plus it just doesn’t feel very efficient, but we guess these improvements have to start from somewhere, right?

At the end of last month, we took a look at rumors surrounding the LG Optimus G Nexus which claim that it could very well be the next Nexus device, and here we are with more information from an anonymous source on how hardware manufacturers can qualify for the “Nexus program” – for starters, they need to use stock Android and 64MB of secure memory for media streaming. There will be allowances made for custom user interface skins, as well as additional hardware requirements to ensure that the Nexus family can support Android 5.0 that is tipped to arrive by Fall next year. It does sound legitimate to us, as it would be pretty embarrassing for a flagship device to be unable to be updated to the next version of the Android operating system due to inefficiencies in its hardware configuration.
Having said that, we still wonder whether there will be multiple Nexus devices down the road, and we have a feeling that this is definitely going to be a distinct possibility by all accounts and purposes. After all, Google does not really lose out when companies clamor for the right to churn out flagship Nexus devices, in fact, it will help raise the profile of the Android platform even further.

Your iPhone 5 May Not Get Compatible Accessories Until at Least November [Iphone 5]
Posted in: Today's Chili Apple’s new dock connector is basically a big old screw job. Sure, it helps make your phone slimmer, and sleeker by saving space. Great, but Apple also wants to charge you $30 for a 30-pin adapter, and it’s installed a special chip to make it hard for unauthorized OEMs to produce accessories. As if that weren’t bad enough, it looks like even Apple-approved Lightning-friendly hardware could still be months away. More »
