Refreshed iMacs rumored to be revealed on the 12th of September alongside iPhone 5

We’re sure that many Apple fans were disappointed earlier this year when Apple took the wraps off the new MacBooks, thus neglecting the iMac’s refresh in the process. Well it seems that come 12th September, not only will Apple be unveiling the next-gen iPhone, but according to reports (via Fox News), refreshed iMacs could also be unveiled. It is unclear as to what sort of new features the refreshed iMacs will have, but Ivy Bridge processors, USB 3.0 ports and expanded SSD capabilities are reportedly among the list. Seems like an odd time to announce the iMac given that the iPhone’s announcement will probably overshadow it, but for those who have been waiting for an iMac update, perhaps your wish might come true on the 12th of September. We’ll treat this with some skepticism for now and suggest you do the same, but check back with us then to see if the rumors have panned out.

Nokia Lumia 920 could arrive on AT&T come 2nd of November

Earlier today we reported that Nokia was allegedly planning to launch the Lumia 920 in November, although the sources were from European telecoms, leading us to wonder when will we be seeing the Windows Phone 8 handset arrive in the US. Well the folks at The Verge are now reporting that according to multiple sources familiar with the matter, Nokia is working with both Microsoft and AT&T in testing the phone for a release in the US. The phone is reportedly in AT&T’s labs at the moment and they are planning to release it on the 2nd of November, thus “confirming” the earlier report of a November release. It should be noted that the 2nd of November date is not set in stone and that it could slip if testing of the phone is not successful and if there are hiccups along the way. Either way our eyes will be peeled, so stay tuned for more updates!

FedEx planning surge volume event on the 21-24 September, coincides with rumored iPhone release date

Apple logoMany believe that the 21st of September could be when Apple will release the iPhone 5, but unfortunately that date cannot be confirmed yet. Hopefully Apple’s 12th of September announcement will reveal those details. However the folks at MacRumors have learnt that FedEx is planning a surge volume event on the 21st to the 24th of September which appears to coincide with Apple’s iPhone release date. Of course given that FedEx deals with thousands of companies, not just Apple, it would be slightly arrogant of us to presume that this might have anything to do with the iPhone.

However as MacRumors have pointed out, FedEx is Apple’s choice of shipping partner for US deliveries, sometimes turning to alternatives such as USPS during periods of heavy demand, so perhaps this speculation might not be too far off the mark. Either way with less than a week to go to the big day, we guess we won’t have long to wait to see if all these iPhone rumors and speculations come true, so stay tuned!

Sprint to get Apple’s next-gen iPhone on the 15th of October?

While we know that come 12th of September, it’s more or less a certainty that Apple will be taking the wraps off their next-gen iPhone. However when the phone will actually launch remains a mystery, which we’re assuming Apple will enlighten us during the announcement itself, but if the rumors are to be believed, the 21st of September is a likely date for the next-gen iPhone’s release – or could it? According to the folks at iSource, they have managed to get their hands on what appears to be a leaked training document for Sprint which has revealed the release date of the iPhone for the 15th of October, a little over a month after its announcement.

Of course this document could be faked by anyone with Photoshop, but assuming it’s true, it could be that Sprint might only get the phone on the 15th of October which could explain the date. Either that or like the folks at Macgasm have suggested, perhaps stock is limited and Apple might be giving priority to their online customers and retail stores, while carriers might have to wait for a later date. In any case we’ll take it with a grain of salt and suggest you do the same, but what do you guys think? Would you be annoyed if Sprint got it later than everyone else?

Apple to discontinue iPhone 3GS in favor of 8GB iPhone 4? [Rumor]

When the iPhone 4S was released, the iPhone 3GS became Apple’s “budget” device, allowing customers to purchase and own an iPhone at a cheaper price, albeit an older model. With the upcoming release of the iPhone 5, will the iPhone 3GS still be kept around? According to a report from The Telegraph, that might not be the case and they have suggested that Apple could be discontinuing the iPhone 3GS, and will instead introduce an iPhone 4 8GB model instead. The iPhone 5 will feature the usual storage options – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, thus allowing an older iPhone model to be sold at a cheaper price and with small storage.

However others have speculated that because iOS 6 was announced to be compatible with the iPhone 3GS (not all features will be available), it could be that Apple will be keeping the phone around for a while more. In any case with the release of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 3GS will be 3 years old which is considered to be “ancient” as far as technology is concerned, but we guess we will have to wait and see if these rumors pan out, so stay tuned!

Development of Twitter for Mac might have been cancelled [Rumor]

If you’re a frequent user of Twitter for Mac, you could be in for some bad news. According to MG Siegler, he tweeted that Twitter for Mac has ceased in development and that the client will no longer be updated. Given that the last update for the app was back in June of 2011, it certainly does not seem surprising that this could indeed be the case. However interestingly the rumors have also suggested that Twitter had reportedly prepared an update that will make it compatible (aesthetically) with the Retina display MacBook Pro, but we’re not sure if those plans were shelved or if that will be the last update. Some have speculated with Twitter acquiring Tweetdeck, there is a chance that Tweetdeck could become the new Twitter for Mac instead, although given that Twitter has been integrated into the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion, perhaps a native client might have been seen as no longer necessary.

Audience’s noise suppression chip might not be present in Apple’s next-gen iPhone [Rumor]

For the most part we’re sure that many aren’t too concerned about every single component that goes into their iPhone, after all its usually the exterior design of the device and hardware specs such as processor speed, RAM and camera megapixels that help sell the phone, wouldn’t you agree? Either way for those interested about the innards of their iPhone device, it featured a noise suppression chip that was introduced as a separate component in the iPhone 4, and an integrated one on the A5 chip in the iPhone 4S. This chip was built by a company called Audience and according to recent reports, it looks like Apple might be passing on Audience’s chip for the next-gen iPhone.

According to the company’s CEO, Peter Santos, “Audience now believes that it is unlikely that the OEM will enable Audience’s processor IP in its next generation mobile phone. Audience is not aware of any intended changes by this OEM to its use of Audience’s processors or processor IP in prior generations of the OEM’s mobile phones.” This has led to some speculating that Apple could have built their own chip instead. Will it handle as well as Audience’s? We guess we will have to wait for the folks at iFixit to tear down the next-gen iPhone to see if these rumors pan out.

Could the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 be headed for Sprint? [Rumor]

It wasn’t too long ago that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was officially announced, although there was no word on which carriers it will be launched on in the US. So far it seems that T-Mobile could be getting their own Galaxy Note 2 and according to a post in the XDA Forums, it seems that Sprint could be getting the device as well. This was uncovered by an XDA forum member who was going through Samsung RDF’s and spotted an unannounced device, the Samsung SPH-L900. He then reached out to his “source” who confirmed that this was the Galaxy Note 2, and based on the model name it looks like it could be destined for Sprint’s network. Of course anyone can claim things on the internet, especially on forums but at the same time it’s not exactly a stretch of the imagination to think that Sprint might be interested in offering the device to their customers. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, so check back with us in the future to see if this rumor pans out.

Apple rumored to be developing a Pandora-like service of its own

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, it has been reported that Apple is currently in talks with record labels to obtain the necessary license for Apple to launch a Pandora-like service of their own. If the reports are accurate, this service will be ad supported and is expected to be available only on Apple’s hardware, although there might be a possibility of the service making its way onto PC as well. However the report has also revealed that there will not be any support for Android although this is hardly surprising given that Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android are rivals in the smartphone world. This is still apparently in the early stages of negotiation, so it seems unlikely that this will be revealed at Apple’s event which will be taking place on the 12th of September where the iPhone 5 has been rumored to be announced at. In any case we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Would you like if Apple had some sort of native Pandora-like streaming service that came installed on all their products?
